What's truly scary is the price of some of these games
viva la emulacion lol
Because of speculation
Wdym? You can absolutely grab the roms for free if you know where to look for...
LOL
Emulation sucks
PS2 IS THE GOAT
100%!
No doubt about that 👌
I missed so much of its games, only play gtas back then
Facts
💯
Wait wait wait, did I hear it right ? Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is a disappointing sequel ?
I think it's the best of them, and that's like the general consensus.
Definitely!
The PS2 is number one for a reason, such a great library
This is one of the many reasons why the PS2 is my favourite console
So many great experiences!
Silent Hill, Kuon, Siren, Fatal Frame, Clock Tower. If you add Rule of Rose to the list I could buy a house
Can't forget Haunting Ground.
Tried to enjoy rule of rose but I found it not scary or interesting in the story department and also the bad combat system just ruined the gameplay
@@PS2GAMER100 Rule of Rose is not for everyone, I think. It all depends on what type of story you like. I personally like the story and atmosphere, but the game is more a game with horror elements then a true horror game. I agree though, that the gameplay was hindered by the combat, although I mostly avoided combat 90% of the time 🤣, so it wasn't really an issue for me.
@@srevdar But how can you avoid combat when you have to fight a boss like the first dude
Silent Hill, Kuon, Siren, Fatal Frame, Clock Tower, Rule of Rose.
Go get your house bro.
Played Silent Hill 4 at nights during the pandemic. Most immersive experience I've had in a while.
pLand3mic
That is super relatable. I absolutely love 4
8:13 "somewhat disappointing sequel" ?? fatal frame 2 is a masterpiece lol, one of the best survival horror of all time
FF2 is the scariest game I've ever played...until I played Resident Evil 7 in VR.
Glad I'm not the only one surprised by that statement.
Agreed. FF2 is incredible and had much better level design.
I mean everyone has an opinion. like FF2 is hardly a masterpiece. is it good sure. but nothing in the gaming world is truly a "Masterpiece"
Yeah i thought i misheard him lmao i hear it’s debatebly one of the best sequels
Cold fear is so underrated.
I’ll second that!
I never played because it looked very meh, but I might give it a try.
Cold fear is better that Resident evil.
@@evilblader7 😂😂😂
Haunting Ground and Rule of Rose are also worth mentioning
Niche games, HG is way better.
@@enrique7934what game is hg?
Be nice if they could get a re-release, if only so we could actually afford to buy them
@@MrNegativecreep07 just play them on an emulator like me with playing ps2 games on my phone
I'm new to horror games and so far played Silent Hill 2&3 and Resident Evil 4 which can also be found in PS2, but none of them is as nerve racking as Fatal Frame.
Fatal frame at first glance looks like a typical Japanese goofy horror game from early 2000s, but everything changes on the second stage the "Demon Tag" day.
The game stops messing around and introduces unpredictable ghost spawns, it also does the silent hill trick, some rooms are absolutely silent then you can hear faint cries and whispers, sometimes spooks in boxes which will caught you off guard.
I'm soon to be 33 and the game still manages to get me on edge.
True that.i never finish the game.the scariest game ever
Another great list! PS2 era horror is probably my favorite. Some of the new stuff looks so realistic that it send my anxiety through the roof!
In my 'head cannon' 'The Thing' on the PS2 will always be the 'true sequel' to 1982's classic!
I've played all the japanese Silent Hill games, and even though Silent Hill 2 is clearly my favorite, Silent Hill 3 has the best protagonist, combat and is the scarier of all of them.
It's amazing how even today I'm playing PS2 games because I didn't back the day. Definitely my favorite console, both as a kid and as an adult.
I felt SH2's limited graphic actually fits really well the horror atmosphere, as if you were watching some found footage. Funnily, SH's infamous fog is actually is the result that hardware of that time couldn't render fast enough rather than intentional.
@@tatinh9885 I actually never heard of the "infamous" fog of SH2, that game was a technical improvement of SH1 in every aspect, and the developers had to learn how to work with the new console. I think Silent Hill 1 to 3 work really well with the limitations they had, all of them have great atmosphere.
The two things that makes my live SH2 more than 2 and 3 is the story and the FMVs, even though Silent Hill 3 is graphically better, the FMV in SH2 made the characters completely believable.
But, I'm not very critical with the Silent Hill trilogy, every time I play these games I enjoy them so much, I completely skip the aspects tat aren't that good (specially with SH2 and 3)
I start Tekken 2 for the first time the other day and my mind explodes during the intro cutscene lol, love that music and always thought it was royalty-free from editing software or something.
We seriously need a Fatal Frame Collection
Would love to see that!
Staff might not work there anymore
Koei has been randomly bringing back some of their IPs stuck on old systems including Fatal Frame and older Atelier games. Samurai Warriors 4 released on PC last month out of the blue, 10 years after it originally released on console so anything is possible. I'd personally like a Fatal Frame HD Trilogy and an enhanced port of Deception IV. Though I hope it's the Xbox version of Fatal Frame 2 but knowing Koei I better not dream too much.
A game I don't hear people talk about is Ghosthunter. I would not call it a hidden gem or anything but if you're into Resident Evil and Ghostbusters it might be worth checking out.
I hear Sh3 "Dance With Night Wind" playing during the video. excellent choice!
good list, love all of them, some haven't even started playing yet :)
Cold Fear need a remake...
Would love to see that happen!
Clock Tower 3 was nuts. The stalkers and the stories tied to them were bonkers. The Sledgehammer Guy with the girl. I was like Whaaaaaaaaat!!!
Cold Fear is one I always wanted to check out. Need to pick that one up sooner rather than later. I also need to play the Silent Hill games one day. RE4 is also always an essential...still my favorite game of all-time! Also, extra kudos using the Mercenaries theme from RE3 and the Croft Manor music from Tomb Raider Legend as background audio!
You've never played the Silent Hill games? Man you're in for a treat when you do! Can't recommend them enough for fans of survival horror! Good ear btw haha
It's not made your video, but 'Echo Night Beyond' scared the hell out of me.
Fatal Frame is the most terrifying
Such an intense game!
The game literally forces you to face-to-face with the ghosts and the closer, the better the damage. Definitely the most terrifying.
Yo just gay
@@INKf3KT Who?
Even though I didn't like it that much (because of the story), it was more scary that I expected.
The golden age of 3rd person horror games. We will never see anything like that happen ever again.
Even though PS1 basically created the genre, I totally agree that the PS2 titles were an improvement to most (if not all) of the horror franchises, and also PS2 was the place for many great games that later became successful franchises.
Only games that topped PS2 era where dead space and alien isolation
Yes best console for horror games and miss this level of horror games
@@BrickmanZeroand evil within was a good one
Don't forget Michigan: Report From Hell, a "so bad it's good" PAL PS2 horror game that many people still don't know about.
Great selection
Kuon, Fatal Frame, still left to play but will get to it eventually :), look i didnt own a PS2 growing up so much catching up to do
I still remember seeing Kuon on my local GameStop shelves back in the day but I never got it because I always focused on main stream games and never thought of trying games I never heard of before...
Playing through SH2 right now. Stopped because I got the notification for the video 😂
That Silent Hill 2 section is without the film grain.
The creepiest and more stressful for me is Siren (or Forbidden Siren) the dark atmosphere, the ennemies, the stealth (if they find you then you’re dead), and the horrific music (the creepiest soundtrack ever). A true survival horror game where staying alive by going from A point to B point is the core of the gameplay.
Silent Hill 3 is still at home with my PS2 FAT same thing with Silent Hill 2, love to replay them every 🎃
I played a demo of The Suffering back in the day. Seemed interested though I never got around to playing the full game. I've heard a few people mention Siren around me and it seems more unique than most PS2 horror games. I'm a big fan of Clock Tower 3! It was my first Clock Tower game and I've been a fan ever since. I'm looking forward to Clock Tower Rewind! Silent Hill 2 I also enjoyed though I have a strange story as to how I got it. During the final semester of my first year at university, a mutual friend just gave me his copy. I still don't know why lol! Another friend and I played some of it when I came home. A few years later, the mutual friend asked me about it and I told him he gave it to me and he told me he bought another one. I'm glad he didn't ask for it back because I know the game is quite expensive now lol!
Finally! Finally I've played all of the games in the list HAHAHA
Was Fatal Frame 2 disappointing? Are you ok, man?
Bro, what? Fatal Frame II is considered one of if not THE best Fatal Frame?
You say that Fatal Frame 2 is disappointing and that 3 is a return to form. I totally respect that opinion, but I am curious as to why you think that. FF2 is widely considered one of the greatest horror games ever made by critics and fans alike.
Resident Evil 4 is not just a good horror game. It's one of the best games ever made. It reminds me of how fun arcade games used to be back in the day. It's just so satisfying and fun to play
Still more fun than the 2024 version.
But the PS2 Version is the worst
@@coramunro95 I've actually only played the other versions on the GameCube, Wii, and PS4. Is the PS2 version that bad?
@@omegaweapon116I emulated it, it's more 'fuzzy' looking than the other ports, but if you emulate you can get an HD patch and it basically looks like the HD edition
@@omegaweapon116 yeah resolution is worse and alot of particles is missing. It's not a bad port but the gc is better.
What I always find funny is that when people call Cold Fear a clone of RE4, they forget that both games came out in the same year (Cold Fear came out 2-3 months after RE4). Could they have known how RE4 was going to play and took inspiration from the ideas or stole the idea? Anything is possible, but both games were in development in the same span of time, so it's more a coincidence then anything else that both games look similar in play style (although, if I remember correctly, in Cold Fear you could move while shooting?)
You can move while shooting and the environment is swaying because of the waves of the sea.
Damn. I wanted a PS2 horror game to play, and then realised that i've basically played them all from this list 😅
The original two Siren games are SO underrated. I played the PS3 remake and hated it because of all the technical issues and bad design decisions, but I discovered the original Siren games for PS2 fairly recently and I would put them right up there with Silent Hill 2 as a couple of the best survival horror games of all time. I'd HIGHLY recommend checking them out.
Thing is, they're not easy to get into. Kinda janky.
@@enrique7934 Janky how? They aren't any more janky than most other survival horror games on the PS2. Some people say the Silent Hill games are janky.
We need a silent hill classic collection. 1-4 are super good imo. I know some people hate 4 but i love it just as much as the first three games
Brilliant. I would love a modern 3rd person survival horror with fixed camera.
I've heard that Tormented Souls and Signalis are pretty good, but I haven't played them yet. There's a game called Post Trauma (not released yet) that I think looks a lot like Silent Hill 3.
Also, there're more obscure games like Banned Memories Yamanashi (which I believe is free).
So, I think there are a good amount pf people (including me) that would love to play this kind of games, and some developers are doing it.
Kuon was an attempt of Fromsoft to make a horror game. I wonder why they don't make another one, especially the creatures and maps from their famous series like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring are enough to give anyone utter disgust and nightmare just by looking.
I'd like to see a video on PS2 games with the most replayability. I'd obviously vote for THUG2 and Champions: RTA. God, I miss the PS2 era of quality releases.
Nailed with this list.
I agree with the guys saying that there are just two top tier ones remaining. Haunting Ground and Rule of Rose.
I gotta try these games 🎮
Cold fear is really underrated. But Extermination is my favorite!
Rule of Rose Kuon Silent Hill Clock Tower Fatal Frame Resident Evil good times with the PS2 Horror genre blessed to see all from 1980-Now have every NTSC-U and NTSC-J console and tons of games what a life of gaming I appreciate you as always
This makes me sad because I already know without looking is probably the most expensive games
Been killing it with the vids lately👍
Thanks for the tip Des! More vids on the way 🙂
Terrifying PS3 horror games next please?
... just finished the video. A great list of horror games (although you missed I think areound 3-4 other horror games that should have made the list), but it's getting a little bit frustrating when over half the games of every type of video like this (PS2 Horror Games or similar titles) are multi-platform... I search for exclusive PS2 horror games, and no list is a true PS2 exclusive list 🙁
Not a lot of ps2 horror exclusives.. Clock tower 3, extermination , rule of rose, kuon, haunting ground and shadow hearts if you count that as horror is like the only exclusive horror games on ps2 only.
Fatal Frame is the scariest & spooky game ever made.i remember playing when i was a teenager…i never finish the game coz of the horror.its like a ghost story in real life
Nightdive studios is working on a remaster of The Thing 😊
The ps5 doesn't even have this many games in total, we need to go back to smaller games with worse graphics
For me it was fatal frame 2 I was playing it with headphones and it was already around 7:30pm, it really made me scared after the light went out after an hour on gameplay😅 and to this day I still haven't played it back😂😂😂
Another horror game for ps2 is rule of rose . It has very good story but some bosses have bugged animations.
I was lucky to get my SH3 copy d while I was in Mexico. I got it for only 400 pesos, which is like 18 dollars.
Unpopular opinion Cold fear is better that Resident evil 😂😂😂
You know the funny thing? Many of them are over priced, seriuslly the real "terryfied" here is the price 😂😂😂😂
Anyway thans for another video.
😅 Yeah the prices on some of them are ridiculous at this point. Thankful for emulation!
Definitely an unpopular opinion, but do you mean all the RE games?
@@shidanslair RE4 only.
should have replaced re4 for haunting ground but good list!
Is haunting ground that good
Gotta love ps2. So many great games.
I’ve always said that thing jumping out at you ain’t true horror. There’s a difference between been scared and being “given a scare”. Anyone can make you jump by sneaking up and going “booh”, but true horror is something that creepy up under your skin.
I still find Silent Hill 3 to be the scariest of all the Silent Hill games, maybe because they did the lighting right
Silent hill 4 is scarier to me and a better story also
SH4 scared the crap out of me@@PS2GAMER100
Kuon and Cold Fear deserve a remaster at least
I wonder if Echo Night Beyond will be on this list. *clicks*
Nope. Sad. That was a creepy game. Haunted Space station.
dude u didn't mention these games they are also one of the best games i recomend on pse:
1- obscure 2
2- silent hill shattered memories
3- Evil dead
Ps2 games got more hype recently ❤
“Many regard Silent Hill 3 as the true sequel to the first game” …that’s because it is?
I recognise the music from the opening but can't place it! Someone tell me what it is please
Tekken 2 opening movie. It's the part where they're showing Nina
@@omegaweapon116THANK YOU
I never had a PS2 but these are some of the cool horror games that I played using emulator on my phone (Nethersx2):
Rule of rose
Haunting ground
Clock tower (collection)
Obscure (collection)
Fatal frame (collection)
Primal
Koun
Siren (collection)
as I said I never had a PS2 so I will love to hear your suggestions for other horror games on PS2 guys
I dont care what tough guys say. Clock tower 3 and haunting ground terrified me.
where is haunting grounds? :-/
And now terrifying PS2 games...................where mostly Phoenix Games will make this list.
fatal frame 2 was somewhat disappointing? i did not notice it being disappointing, i loved it, but its true ff3 is more memorable
you forgot to mention the unique face animation in siren which made the game even creepier . at least for me lol
I just felt it wasn't as scary as the original or the third game.
Wait wait. Are you high dude? Fatal Frame 2 is even better than the first game and is still regarded as one of the best sequels to this day.
FF 3 was even a minor step down for the series
😎👍
Somewhat disappointing… Fatal Frame 2??? what are you smoking kawasaki?? One of the universal truths of the universe is that FF2 is the best game in the franchise and one of the best horror games of all time!!!
For Silent Hill, people need to be aware that the PS3 HD versions are not good. KONAMI destroyed them, changed their voice actors, changed sound effects, changed the game at its core. The voice actors are the core of the game, they are the reason the characters are popular, and konami just chose the most generic voices to ruin the. Why?
God-Like Tier Consoles
Super Nintendo
PS1
PS2
Putting Cold Fear on in this list instead of Haunting Ground, and FF3 instead of FF2 completely discredits your effort.
AH NÃO MANO KKKKKKKKKKKK APAGA HOMEM JA DEU TEMPO JA
The allies in The Thing will ALL eventually turn on you at sets points. I made a point of keeping them all alive to see how far I could take them, and certain guys will turn at certain fixed points. Kinda takes away from the tension once you know that.
💚💚💚💗💚
For the love of God don't play the PS2 version of RE4 if you don't have to. It's bad.
It's really hard to hear you lisp. My ears are damaging so hard
Are you playing the OG versions or emulation? Show the physical copies at the end of the video like @polygondon does.
I mean, TVGS doesnt HAVE TO show physical copies of the games. and whether its the OG versions or emulation its kinda obvious what it is if you watch the videos. also, what does it matter if its OG hardware or emulation.
So Underrated; Resident Evil Dead Aim !!!!!And Kuon a very Shit Game, sry not Good Game.
My dad played The Thing so much cuz it was the only ps2 game we could afford at that moment but he loved it lol he was like look at the graphics man. My dad 61 still gaming playing his ps3 every day now hes playing PSVR1 on the ps5 and loved it
The suffering another game my dad loved. and still played using the PS2 emulator i set up for him
