First Time Making English Wheel Art

- I recently learned something new that can be done with an English Wheel. I never thought to use the wheel like a Press, but it works perfectly and allows for some really cool art and embossing projects.
You can find a list of tools and equipment I use in the shop below, including English Wheels.

The following is a list of English Wheels that I found. I use one from Harbor Freight and I’m fine with the quality and functionality, it does flex more than would be ideal, but it works. I haven’t tried any of the ones listed here, except the HF model, but they all look functional.

Somedays I get nostalgic for home, so I come to your channel just to hear you talk about whatever the hell you’re working on next. Glad you’re still doing this Dad.
I appreciate that! Love ya man!
Great thanks, Dang keep it up great venture... :) Go, Scout,
Heck yeah!!
Thanks!
Love it!!
Thanks! It’s pretty cool to find new uses for tools you have.
So if you need to "joggle" a panel to have an offset, you can do the same thing...sort-of. It takes a little time to build the press plate but once you have it you can do that to as many panels as the tool will last, and they will always be the same. On aluminum you need to factor in a little bit of spring back if it is hardened. Thanks for the video!
I hadn’t thought about doing that, I typically use a bead roller. But yea to make a very straight line, a jig and the English wheel would work very well.
@@AllisonCustoms Where I learned this I had to Joggle a leading edge for a P-40 along the whole top edge and it was 167" long. We made a press plate that had the the "profile" of the joggle and the stack up necessary to joggle the .050" aluminum, and when it came out it was perfect! I have used this method since then several times in repairs I have done.
That is cool, did you do make the press plate the entire length? Or shorter and shift it down the line a few times?
@@AllisonCustoms made it for the entire length. Then I did another panel that was a little more complex than a straight line...I was amazed the way it turned out....The guy that I was working for taught me a lot!
Awesome things to be taught for sure! And I will be “stealing” the idea, thanks!
Why didn't you emboss it directly onto the fender?
Came out great tho!
I’m sure it could be done, but at first it was just an exercise to see if I could make it at all. Then I decided to put it in the fender instead of the factory emblem. The fender has some curve in it there, so I would be afraid it might flatten out or really change the shape of the fender, trying to go directly into the fender. Also, it would probably not be any fun trying to put that whole fender in the English Wheel. Finally, I doubt I would be able to get it all straight without being able to see the emblem when I was pressing it in.
Like I said, someone could probably pull it off, but welding it was pretty easy.
Thanks for watching and the question!
