When I was fumbling around thinking about influences, the one that was escaping me was early Symphony X specifically Evolution (the grand design) from The new Mythology Suite. Something in Holy Way just reminds me of this era of Symphony X. Maybe it's the riffs. Not sure.

Yeah, you really know your music. You touched on a lot of great points. And you are correct. When you learn about these girls influences.... it will all make sense to you. When you learn about their backgrounds, it will make even more sense to you. I was completely shocked when I first found them. Ironically, it was for THIS exact song, but from the 2020 concert at Zepp DiverCity. I immediately heard early Helloween influences. My whole life is power-metal. Lovebites is perfection for me. They have it all, and they can do it all. Over the years, I heard it all... so when a supergroup like Lovebites comes along, it's GAME OVER!

These ladies are the real deal. Check out Miyako's piano playing, she trained to concert level. Swan Song with the Chopin Etude intro is a good start, but also the live version of Rising, where she does the fastest transition from piano to guitar I've ever seen. For a change of pace, try Edge of the World, Empty Daydream or Epilogue (the so called "e" songs), or work your way through all 3! They have an impressive back catalogue and I've yet to find a bad song. Great reaction, thanks.

Lovebites is the second/third/fourth project for the members so it's not like they met in high school or college and formed a band that way. They were brought together at the behest of Miho, the bassist, when her first band imploded so it wasn't a record label or a music management team that brought the band together.

Elle joue merveilleusement du piano (chez elle) mais cela reste juste bon en concert. Elle joue bien mieux de la guitare sur scène. LOVEBITES - Holy War lyrics:
Look at those black clouds, it’s going to rain blood
People live in fear, covered in mud
Singing oh Gloria to change the prophecy
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for sisters
There is a thousand, a thousand of evils
Hush, do not wake up Satan’s devils
Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for brothers
    Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Immortal soul, let there be light
    Into the Eye of Heaven
    Eagles at a holy war
    Fly higher than the sun
We are one for all and all for one forevermore
Kingdom of Heaven, never shall we fall
    Reincarnation, wait for your call
Singing oh, Gloria to change the prophecy
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for sisters
    Morning star and dying moon
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Mighty soul, let there be hope
    Into the Eye of Heaven
    Eagles at a holy war
    Fly higher than the sun
Stand up in the name of the God of heavy metal
What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight?
But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for
Only have one thing on our mind
    Facing the fate, holy war
Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for brothers
    Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Immortal soul, let there be light
    Into the Eye of Heaven

Lovebites were formed back in 2016 by an ex-member of Destrose Miho (Bass) with the help of her friend and ex-member as well of destrose Haruna (Drums), who had asked Midori (guitar) to join. Then they had as a backup Miyako (guitar) who following year joined the band and all 4 women chose the vocalist Asami that fitted so well. Asami who never sang any rock or metal has the RnB and blues background as well as training as a ballerina, all five women are masters and classically trained pianists. All five have contributed to writing songs but the main composer is Miyako with Asami the main lyricists, so yes they write, compose, arrange and produce their own music with help from a long-time friend Mao. They released their debut Ep in 2017 (The Lovebites EP) and the same year released their first album Awakening from Abyss, 2018 they released a new EP Battle against Damnation, and the second album Clockwork Immortality, 2019 released their first Live DVD/CD Daughters of the Dawn. At the end of 2019 they released another EP Golden Destination and in 2020 Electric Pentagram was released, that same year they released several live shows FOAK and Live from the Abyss, in 2021 they released a new EP Glory, glory to the World, in 2022 they released the new live Ride for Vengeance. In 2018 they won the Metal Hammer Golden gods award, they have been to Europe and did Bloodstock and Waken music festivals 2018. In 2021 the founder of Lovebites has since left the band and Lovebites is now on a temporary hiatus. IMO you speak of baby metal as a wonderful this yet to me they suck to poppy, gimmicky, and mainstream crap, the same thing with band maid, Lovebites is the real deal plus there are so much better bands than baby metal and band maid in the Japanese scene. I like to always refer everyone to the "E" songs of Lovenbites masterpieces and classic songs I know you will enjoy.

Wolfpack is here for LOVEBITES! You..... just went down a big rabbit-hole! Hehehe! You got a taste of what the princesses can do. Wait until you see what else they can do! I would suggest these songs next: "Frozen Serenade", "Swan Song with Chopin piano intro", "Epilogue", and "Empty Daydream". It's fun to pick-out all the musical influences with Lovebites. You will hear literally EVERYTHING. They take everything, and put it into their songs. It's as if a team of older composers are writing their songs. Is it mostly Miyako and Mao? I'm not so sure. All things will be revealed over time, and I am a patient man. Their songwriting is almost too perfect. They know EXACTLY where to go, and what to do with the music. You noticed it. Wait until you check out their other songs. You will see a pattern. As amazing as these musicians are, the songwriting is equally amazing. Lovebites is a world-class supergroup. They are the future. Sadly, the bass player left the band in the middle of last year. Asami got married, and Miyako had a baby... so the band went on a hiatus for awhile. After the holidays, they are back working again, but still no word yet on a new bass player. Hopefully they will make an announcement soon. Once the world returns to normal... all Lovebites needs to do is tour the world. They will be the next Iron Maiden. They will be mega-stars. They are the future of metal.

Great reaction to Lovebites! Prior to the pandemic, the only Japanese band I had ever heard of was Maximum the Hormone. Then in 2020 I stumbled upon a video from a band called Band-Maid. I enjoyed their music so much that I started listening to many more Japanese bands. Only two others have clicked with me like Band-Maid. Those two bands are Lovebites and Nemophila. It has very little to do with all three being all-female bands. It is all about the music, musicianship and on stage charisma. There are only two other all-female bands in the world that I would put on their level. Band-Maid is the oldest of the groups and were very dependent on their label for supplying their songs. However, on their last two albums (maybe last three) all the music has been written by their lead guitarist, Kanami Tono. Band-Maid is now a legit hard rock band with some punk thrown in. For Band-Maid I would start with their music video for the song Warning., found on their CZcams channel. Nemophila is the newest of the three bands, having formed in 2019 as a short term project for the vocalist, mayu. The five of them clicked so well that they decided to become a permanent band. Their CZcams channel is full of covers they have done just for fun, and their original stuff. I would start with their music video for the song Revive, unless you are a big Iron Maiden fan like me, in which case start with their cover of Aces High. Nemophila is very much a metal band but they are not afraid to branch out.
Another band you might like is Hanabie, a very young band that started in high school as a Maximum the Hormone tribute band. They have a music video for a song called We Love Sweets. Despite the song's title, you need to take the plunge. It is quite an experience.

Mostly all of the music is written by the ladies themselves. Miyako (dark-haired guitarist) does the majority of the song-writing and composing, and Asami (vocalist) writes the majority of the lyrics. Miho (bass), who recently departed the band, also wrote and composed several songs and lyrics. Midori (blonde guitarist) and Haruna (drummer) have written and composed one song each (Haruna also wrote the lyrics on hers, though Asami wrote the lyrics for Midori's). There are a couple close friends of the band - Mao and Nana Hatori - who frequently collaborate. Mao assists with some of the composing and extra keyboards (Miyako herself is a world-class concert classical pianist, and she handles the majority of the keys). Nana is a fluent English speaker, and she helps with some of the translating (Asami, Midori, and Miho all speak English, but are not fluent), since all but one of Lovebites songs are in English. But overall, yes, they write their own stuff, and are definitely not a "corporate" band.

    • @danw6048
      @danw6048 Před 2 lety +3

Miyako has written almost half of all the Lovebites songs and she is the only band member that has never collaborated with Mao in writing a song. Her only collaboration was with Miho in writing Break the Wall. I don't think any other band member has written a song without Mao's involvement. As a multi-instrumentalist and with her immense classical background, Miyako is the most "musical" member of Lovebites.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 We say "Japan is a country obsessed by Rock Music". I believe the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Talking about hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan thereafter : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Kiss (1977), Iron Maiden (1981) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here and we can see a number of good male bands, too. In a popular TV program, Keiko, a lead singer of Show-Ya (a pioneer of Japanese all-female bands) and Saki (Nemophila) emphasized one thing saying "BABYMETAL is not a ALL-female band, but thanks to their international success many music fans in foreign countries became aware of female bands in Japan disregarding language barrier. They opened doors for us". Uh oh, we also say "Japan is a country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Oddly enough I recently found an old vinyl copy of the Deep Purple double LP "Made in Japan" which was an assemblage of live recordings from their 1972 Japanese tour. I think it was more the Led Zeppelin and particularly the Deep Purple tours that kick started Japan's obsession with hard rock and proto-metal as well as their love for big, over the top live productions. Many of the hugely talented pool of Japanese metal and rock artists today grew up on a diet of those rock and metal giants of the 70s and early 80s and have been massively influenced by them. For some three decades since then the Japanese rock and metal scene has simmered away and fermented behind closed doors, unnoticed by the rest of the world, until Babymetal kicked the doors open to the world and allowed the extraordinary wealth of Japanese music to explode into the open. It was worth waiting for!

@@michaelafrancis1361 Thanks for your comment. As you suggested, many Japanese musicians are like children of American / European rock music. For example, there are large number of good live records, CDs and DVDs especially recorded at Budokan by H/R & H/M bands other than 1972 Deep Purple : Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick (1978), Eric Clapton (1979), Scorpions (1979), The Michael Schenker Group (1981), Rainbow (1984), Guns N' Roses (1988), Yngwie Malmsteen (1994), Metallica (1998), Ozzy Osbourne (2002), Dream Theater (2004 / 2017), Judas Priest (2005), Iron Maiden (2006), RHCP (2013) and etc.
From my favorite funk rock genre : Chase (1972), Earth, Wind and Fire (1979), Chicago (1996) and so on ... Just so you know, I did not listen to them all. There is a magazine enumerating those discs 😄 .

Oh, man, you’ve just scratched the tip of the iceberg. These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians. They really shine in their live performances. Yes, their main influences are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Angra, Helloween, Slayer, Megadeth, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Dragonforce, and even Gary Moore, but they have been developing their unique style. They performed at Wacken Open Air, Germany, in 2018, with great success, and toured the UK in 2019 with Dragonforce (by the way, they are good friends). Some people say that they are redefining metal or that they are breaking the walls of stereotypes in the metal scene. Those twin lead guitar solos are already legendary, in just 5 years. My next recommendations are “Thunder vengeance”, “Set the world on fire”, Hammer of wrath”, “Break the wall”, “Shadowmaker” or, for a different side: “Empty daydream”, “Epilogue”, “Edge of the world”, “Spellbound”, “Frozen serenade” (all live if possible). You're right on the 2 guitarists different styles. The first one ( Miyako ) is a prodigy pianist who taught herself to play the guitar. She's more on the feels and you can see her movements are more flowy, especially the way she strums. Other guitarist ( Midori ) is proper music school trained and tends to play more technical and speed.
Vocalist ( Asami ) is from RnB background hence she doesn't fit into the normal singing style of a traditional power metal vocalist.
Leader of the band is Miho, the bassist, and she writes a lot of the songs. But she just left the band and now we don't know what's going to happen to Bandmaid. Band is on hiatus. Miyako also just had a baby.

They also play other styles. How about some soul metal?
    Burden of time: czcams.com/video/4OBf_Gn8efs/video.html
Lovebites were not manufactured, unless some other Japanese bands. Haruna (drummer) and former bassist Miho played together in an all-female band called Destrose, which has spawned a lot of other female metal bands but was not very successful in itself. They wanted to form a new band and contacted the guitarists Miyako (Dean) and Midori (ESP), which they knew through the Tokyo scene. Together they casted the singer Asami from a demo tape that she had sent to the label (JVC/Kenwood/Victor Entertainment). Asami was an R'n'B/soul singer and rock music backup singer and according to some accounts hadn't even heard of metal before, but she has been converted apparently and even composes thrash metal songs for Lovebites now. I guess others here will tell the full story, or just go on Wikipedia. But in fact there are quite a lot of independent metal bands in Japan who may be signed to a major label (Lovebites are) or not, but are not a corporate product. They are a bit of a "supergroup", though, they all have fairly long experience in other bands. Professional musicians, in a nutshell, with a liking for heavy music and a good concept, but the concept is their own.
They write and arrange their songs themselves, with contributions from "a sixth band member", Mao, keyboardist of Lightbringer.

I can see now that most of these Japanese bands (Band-Maid, Lovebites, Gacharis Spin etc) are as organic as any other rock band. I can also see the the breadth of their talent seems limitless.

No not a project. The bassist Miho formed , along with her drummer ,Haruna, from scratch , after Destrose disbanded. Asami the singer came from Rn B background and 12 years of ballet. Miyako was a concert level classical pianist who only took up gtr at 18yo when she started Uni, 4 of the 5 girls studied piano from a very early age. So their arrangements are immaculate as are their performance skills. The were invited to play festivals in Europe and won an award from Metal Hammer mag as Best New Metal Act . following those shows. Astounding and diverse for metal act as you will see as you explore their rep.

They even composed a homage of Aces High of Iron Maden which titled The Crusade czcams.com/video/z0x1QV3wMIg/video.html. They compose all their songs except for a couple of cover songs.

The idiotic Western music attitude can be wrapped up in the Bowling for Soup song “Punk Rock 101.” The chorus states “It’s stupid, contagious To be broke and famous. Could someone please save us from punk rock 101.” This is a direct shot at music fans that bring the hate when a band has success, and “sold out.” Only music fans seem to want the bands they like to fail. It is an absolutely moronic attitude to expect musicians, who have spent most of their life struggling to make a dime, to continue to be poor, so some fans will think they are cool. Great, talented musicians deserve to do well financially.

Other than Bloodstock or fan footage, you can't go wrong with any song of theirs ... all meat, no fillers. While they call themselves a Metal Band, the breadth of their influences and talent, leave them neither defined nor confined by genre, gender or nationality.
