Barcelona had a few good results this season like beating Atletico 3-0 in an away game and winning again PSG at Paris. But otherwise very inconsistent with shambolic defense. Gavi will bolster the side when he is back and Yamal is very good. But promising youngsters like Ansu Fati have faded away. They plan to give a new contract to 32 year old Sergio Roberto! Lewandowski is also past his prime and Raphina & Torres wont't work against big teams in CL. Not sure what's their financial situation is, how many more levers they can pull but this team needs major changes all over.

FRAGILITY is the key here: Barcelona was in advantage against PSG, against Madrid (twice), against Girona, playing good football, ... but when something shakes the plan a bit (a mistake, an awful decision by the referee) everything falls apart. People think this started with the losses at Rome or Liverpool in Champions League, but last year the team had strong mentality. I think refs and media drove the team nuts since August... and with Xavi on the bench, because all the preasure around, I don't think this will change next season.

Girona is having a Cinderella season and playing beautiful football, too-- better than Barcelona (which is the model), and if it manages to keep its strengths and build on it, it will make a long run in the Champions League next season.
It may be very simple, or it may be complicated. Barça this season has simply not been the dominant and feared team so many expect, with the most tight-knit, mentally powerful, extremely skillful squad in the world. That said, Xavi clearly knows how to coach a top European team; he's kept Barcelona competing for La Liga and in the Champions League during the two-and-a-half seasons he's been in charge. Xavi and fans need to be realistic about the situation; when he came on as coach, Barcelona was in ninth place in La Liga. It could have gotten worse. What does this all mean? It means that Xavi inherited a top European team in shambles and he took on the job of rebuilding SO THAT IT STAYS among the top European teams. It may be inconsistent, but it is still a top-4 La Liga club.
What Xavi doesn't know is what is the secret sauce (simple or complicated) to make Barcelona into that dominant and fearsome squad for which he, Puyol, Busquets, Iniesta, and Messi were the spinal column from 2008 to 2015.
Does Barça have to have another Messi? No, but it does need to find another set of skillful, mentally powerful, committed players-- preferably out of La Masía, like Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi to build a strong defense, an awesome midfield, and a decent strike force. For the sort of football FC Barcelona is committed to playing (Cruyff-inspired), that's the basic setup; the optimal arrangement is every player in every position is world-class. It's coming together, piece by piece, slower than many fans would like. It's hard. It takes patience and having eyes peeled for the odd talent from outside-- the way Cruyff himself was in his playing days when he left Ajax Amsterdam and went to Barcelona in 1973, and how as a coach he put together his 'Dream Team' in the 1989 - 1995 period, and how Guardiola tweaked that recipe putting together those ballers of 2008 - 2012.
Meanwhile for us fans and not-so-fans, it's all RELATIVE. Notice where Barcelona is relative to other teams in La Liga: top 4. Last year? Top 4. The year before, when Xavi took it over? Top 4, and won the La Liga championship. Right now, all the other clubs in La Liga below fourth-place Atlético de Madrid would LOVE to be in Barcelona's situation rather than in whatever situation they find themselves.
I know for a fact (I have a friend in the club) that Real Sociedad would love to get another crack at Champions League play next season, but they are 7 points behind fifth-place Athletic de Bilbao, who are 6 points behind fourth-place Atlético de Madrid.

Barcelona have lost both home and away against Girona this season. The way in which they’ve lost games it’s just crazy and I don’t think that their fans can take it anymore. They’ve been so inconsistent, after a turnaround in form where they were trying to make a late push in the La Liga title race and looked as if they would make a deep run to the champions league final, 3 losses in their last 4 games means that they won’t win anything this season. Some Barcelona fans had this silver lining that they would finish the season with 1 trophy. They also did enough to convince Xavi to stay at the club next season. You thought wrong because Real Madrid won La Liga already with 4 games to spare, and the red card against PSG doesn’t change the fact that you lost 4-1 at home and got knocked out of the Champions League after leading by 2 goals on aggregate.
Xavi will remain as their manager next season, but it’s very clear and obvious to everyone that Barcelona are in need of a squad overhaul and they really need to be rejuvenated if they want to get back to competing for trophies. What we’ve seen from them of late has been almost the same story for them every season where they don’t produce when it matters the most and you’re not winning a trophy with that sort of mentality. The mentality of this football club needs to change because you can’t holding them to a low standard no matter how many injuries they have because they have enough talent to be competing for the title and when they had an upturn in form, it was at a time where they made up for so much ground that they lost earlier in the season. They’ve had too many bad losses where there’s been some defensive mistakes and errors from the players and they wanna give it their all, there’s a section of players who aren’t doing enough or getting things right. I don’t want to blame Xavi for all of this because they’re still in a transition he’s a very young coach and they have their own issues, as the manager some fans have a point that he can still do better. Their season hasn’t been as disappointing as you think it is, but when you look at a club like Real Madrid for example, they’ve already won La Liga, they’re probably gonna win the Champions League again despite having so many injuries a makeshift defense and no elite striker, Kylian Mbappe Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham will be on the same team together and next season when everyone is healthy, they’ll get even better and better. On paper, in La Liga alone who can compete with that. With Xavi staying at the club next season, Barcelona really needs to strengthen their squad get a left winger, a fullback who can actually wants to defend, a CDM, whoever and then get rid of players who aren’t good enough past their prime or just need to be sold in order to raise funds and make transfers.
