    What I give all my vegetables and trees is comfrey tea, worm tea, compost tea and fish amino acid I also make myself. I feed every other week. Last year was my first year growing figs from cuttings. I was getting VDBs and RDBs that were 4 and 5 ft in a 2 gal pots. With thick trunks. When they went in the ground they grew another 1ft before I pinched. Had delicious figs from both. Chicago Hardy also produced figs. Other varieties grew to about 3ft in pots but didn’t produce figs. By the end of the season the ones in the ground had 1.5 to 2in in trunks. In pots about an 1in. This is my 3rd season using this method of fertilizing, it’s cheap, easy and the results speak for themselves.

    I am so glad to find you. I am in cold northern Ohio and have my first 2 Fig trees. I got them last year and am hoping to have a couple figs this year. It seems that all the other people who do Fig videos are down south and that just doesn't work for me with the cold weather here. I hope to learn a lot from you.

    Questions : when do you start feeding the bloom every other week ?
    when do you add that chicken manure and how much per Fig plant?
    and could I totally substitute the Acti-sol Chicken manure for the Tomato Tone ? Thank you.

    Thanks for the comprehensive info! Glad to find another Ontario-based fig grower. I'm making up my calendars as per your schedule. One question that I have is do you stop applying fertilizer altogether in September to get the plants ready for dormancy? Do you ease them off of it or cold turkey?

    This is the first of your videos I have seen. I have 2 fig trees in their 3rd year. I have grown them in large clay pots up until now. I noticed yours in 5 gallon buckets. Do you start them that way, or when do you transfer them to that size container? Also, when do you start setting yours outside? I am further south of you (near the Ohio River) and still have mine indoor from over wintering.
    Thanks for your help.

I start most of my trees from cuttings in 4"x8" bags, here is my rooting proceess czcams.com/video/NRSSTnfbHw4/video.html then I transfer to a small pot I try to get my figs outside in March weather permitting but sometimes I can't get them out until April here is my technique for bringing them out even when the weather is still a little too cold outside czcams.com/video/rQqQa5RsDP4/video.html

    one final question, I recently bought some Green planet fertilizer. from PNW. The GROW is a 16-10-8. and the BLOOM is a 8-12-16..I have used this twice as its a 3 week fertilizer. So, I'm looking at the numbers and it seems that perhaps I could simply stick with the bloom along with the epsoms, bone meal fish fertilizer and maybe the acti-sol chicken manure pellets? I just saw that you use the chicken only till mid season which is June'ish? . What say you? I just wanna be able to have a solid plan.

    How do you fertilize your in-ground fig trees?

  • @leslielucci3182
    @leslielucci3182 Před rokem

    Is it possible to ripen Small to medium figs in the beginning of October? Zone 7B. I water and fertilize every other day. One or two are ripe. Days are quickly getting shorter and colder. Temps are currently from low 70s daytime and upper 50s night time with 12 hours of daylight.

    • @RKfigs
      @RKfigs  Před rokem

      Fertilizing every other day might be a bit too much. Figs generally need the heat to ripen so during the cold months I tend to do the Fig shuffle and hope to get a work day or two to get the remaining figs the ripen. There is a trick that some people use and put olive oil on the eye of the Fig to speed up the process.

    • @leslielucci3182
      @leslielucci3182 Před rokem

      @@RKfigs so the oiling worked very well. There were some small unripened figs left right before winter and the squirrels or some other animals ate them. Next time I will start earlier in the season when there’s more daylight.
