2:05 "you guys" was absolute butter. They're just monsters in this chart, absolutely loved this.
That whole chord was just so enjoyable how they blended into each other. Pure eargasm. Awesome.

Moments like 2:05 with the "You guys!" And 1:45 with the "you stupid lead" make this song such an interesting and different piece. It's almost not even a song, it's more of a performance.
0:12 I know this isn't music related, but Ryan's dead eye stare as he sings here for some reason is just funny😂
I love it, when I first noticed it I was like that’s absolutely amazing and fit’s the mood of the chart so well
Just when I think I've learned how to pick Ryan out of the four I lose him. The eternal struggle.

The baritone is supposed to mix the other harmonies to give it a fuller sound :) It's good at what he does.

It's my favorite part
One of my favorite parts of this (one of many) is at the end, 4:45. It seems like Ryan forgets his little tiddle for a second. You see him react like "Oh shit, I forgot to start this", then crushes it. Also, Jake's eyes widen like "How much longer can I hold this post?" and Jackson looks at him expectantly. One of my favorite jams by them.
That was in the song the previous year as well. I believe it is intentional to add more comedy to the piece

You see that these guys have the best arrangements at 1:53 when the separate texts cross over with the word “lead”. So good!

Underrated part at 3:05 hearing Ryan and Joey's part together and then seeing Ryan's arms sway as his notes go higher and lower like going over a hill.
The part at 2:00 is hypnotic honestly
The whole song is amazing but the part from 2:48 - 3:00 is so addictive to listen to, the way they up the tempo and overlap each other (sorry I don't know the technical term for this!) it sounds SO good and I wish there was a longer section like this to listen to. Something I really love about NF4 is how so many of their songs sound like a medley with constant switch ups, be it pitch, pacing etc. That's not even to mention their perfected comedy skills. They really are the complete package when it comes to entertainment.
the term you're looking for is countermelody, and yes it's quite rare in barbershop - the standard practice is for it to be in unison for almost the whole song

They came 9th I believe. Really impressive considering they are a young quartet compared to say, Main Street, and they did 4 new ones this year. That takes guts. Maybe they'll revamp 'Dinah' for next year
They have 2 win's under their belt as well. One in 2013

The arranger, Patrick McAlexander, went to my high school. He also started the mens acapella group there that I later directed when I was there. He is crazy good! I LOVE this arrangement!!!

Maisie Summers specifically they got sixth right? They keep inching forward. They are future winners that's for sure
Yep came 6th this year.
In 2014 they were 16th.
In 2015 they were 14th.
In 2016 they were 11th.
In 2017 they finally broke the top 10, coming 9th.
Then in 2018 placed 6th.
So here's hoping they're top 3 next year.
All this time and nobody has talked about that killer note on “tango” led in by Joey at 1:57... wow!
If these guys would go on a show like America's Got Talent they would slay and become world famous instantly!
1:25 was brilliant!
It’s crazy to watch the 2016 version and see just how much they improved on the song in one year. This is by far one of their best performances to date

i just noticed how on the last notes when Jake holds his note he exchanges a short look with ryan, who in turn looks like he forgot there was a part left.
I dont know if this was in the choreography or not, either way i find it pretty funny seeing such small elements in their interactions ^^

I think they've improved so much I have them in my top 5 this year I love them they blend so well love the timbre of the lead the tenor isn't piercing I think they're brilliant

Not sure how it's an insult. Both groups are great. One just sings, the other trys things they haven't before or that's not common for guys to do.

@@MisterShaggyDoo Well, barbershop can be quite intense and it takes some time to get used to the sound. It took me a couple months to start listening to anything besides NF4, it really is an acquired taste. Main Street is another quartet that’s quite accessible for people who haven’t listened to a lot of barbershop yet. My favourite quartet now is Instant Classic, their ballads were definitely a little too much for me at first (I love them now) but their uptunes were quite fun from the beginning. Another one is Ringmasters, their sound is not as bright as Instant Classic’s which made it a little easier for my ears to adjust - their legendary Notre Dame Medley was the first song of theirs I listened to and it’s still one of my favourite barbershop performances of all time. Also, if you can, I would really recommend learning some tags to sing yourself. Even if you don’t have anyone to sing with, just find some tag videos on youtube to sing along with. That’s how I got started and it really helped me find my way into the harmonies.
I started with Ringmasters and then went to NF4, and now I still listen to them and older and somewhat newer quartets
I'd say this is the best barber shop ever, plus smashing choreography, I am in awe

Having just watched their 2023 performance, and then going back to this, Joey's character progression is hilarious. 2017 Joey's a pretty normal guy. 2023 Joey is a sort of idiot-savant who doesn't seem to know how he ended up in a quartet XD
