"Tap shoes and a straw hat" refers to the attire of 2017 quartet champions Main Street
"Some dudes from Indiana sent me roses" refers to 2015 champs Instant Classic's song "I Won't Send Roses"
"A bunch of deformed animals from Nashville" refers to the comedy quartet Lunch Break's song "Old McDonald's Deformed Farm"

"Music stand that's magical from Denver" refers to 2010 champion quartet Storm Front and a comedy bit (where the height of the music stand made them sing higher or lower) that they did their parody of "Lida Rose"
"Vocal Spectrum sent bananas that we've already used" refers to 2006 champs Vocal Spectrum and their use of a banana as a prop for the song "I Wan'na Be like You" and then to the fact that the Newfangled Four did a banana song, "Bananaphone" the year before this (and also again this year).

"Red shoes from Signature" refers to 2017/2018 silver medalists Signature quartet and their often-brightly-colored shoes, and "Change is gonna come" is a song that Signature quartet often sings in contests.
5:06 is probably a really subtle nod to the mardi gras march tag. makes sense considering they’re westminster men, right?
Oh and also, “What is it?!” comes from their own arrangement of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Dang
You my friend, deserve a special place in heaven
I only got lunch break's reference bc I just watched that performance lol
I would give anything to see the looks on the faces of the different groups they referenced.
Would you give up your car?
@@Selichan42_SA silly person, I don't own a car!
@@pinkcupcake4717 good answer!! mass transit gang rise up :D edit: bikes also good
what car do you drive
@@Yes-yv9zs drive a civic, drive a civic, drive a civiiiiic
Joey's high notes are absolutely bonkers; I hope everyone has recognized that over the last few years, lol.
he sets my soprano to shame 🤣
Props to Joey for hitting that note at 3:20 and actually getting it to tune.
4:51 where Jake says "Sorry" after the truly horrid signature pun. All. Time. Classic.
I consider myself honored having seen them live three times.
"Catchyourbreathnowboyscatchyourbreathnow"-Jake at 1:50😂
Oh my gosh I never heard that until now 😂😂😂😂
Bro that’s legit impressive. Massive props
THE FREAKING “they finally sent them!” PART HAD ME ON THE FLOOR
And even though he's practically speaking the words, he says them on the actual pitches of "I Won't Send Roses". Genius!!
Terry Chapman I never noticed that!
The "Thompthin' thpethial" part is GOLD! Love how they honored that classic part from the musical.
Notice that they had the redhead sing it.
4:53 when Jake breaks character and almost asks Jackson what he’s doing is PRICELESS 😂😂
I don't think it's him breaking character as much as it being part of the show.
Either way it's still really funny
"The Wells Fargo freakin' wagon HOLY CRAP ITS COMING!!!"
I have no idea why I got a kick out of it but that was hilarious.
Love a good old fashioned Barbershop Quartet Diss Track from my favorite boys.
Thse guys are becoming the Kings of Shtick (y) Cleanup in Aisle Three
I love their funny stuff like this but I would prefer them to be (especially in major competitions) a bit more serious.
@@eliasbachner1898 Nah, Their style is comedy. They have done serious songs in the past, but comedy fits them the most.
^ Judge detection alert in Elias four.
Okay but Jake's perfect note at 2:55?
His entire line??
LIKE WHAT BOY
Leonard Michel Petrocchi perfect
it’s SO good
You can tell jake loves his line at like 2:40 and its beautiful
"WHAT IS IT" reference to supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Bananaphone*
Chad Bihag Ah, my bad. Was thinking they sang it when Ryan bring the box. My short term memory sucks.
@Chad Bihag they actually do have a "what is that" line in bananaphone.. it's just not especially emphasized.
@@Amstrdamn No, he's right, it's from supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
3:00 when they yelled squirrel i died laughing
Me too - damn these guys are good
You wouldn’t get it if you never saw the movie Up.
@@darcybrummett7004 You don't have to have seen "UP" to get humor in this. It's a reference to Lunch Break's song "Old McDonald's Deformed Farm"
At 3:48, Ryan is also singing the "What is it" but almost without moving his mouth, I didn't even notice until just now
I'm too embarrassed to admit how many times I've watched this performance just to see Ryan's face as the wagon arrives. It's just so beautiful.
If you want a great time just soely watch Ryan. His actions and faces are so hilarious
i'm still amazed by how they coordinated everything to hit the ground on the same beat (ON THE BEAT)
I love how Ryan makes his presence known in this one. Real nice to see a mix with the baritone lol
I love how at 2:13 - 2:14 Jacks pointing to himself mouthing “this is my solo” over and over
Ryans facial expressions, I cant!
Ryan's face at 1:20 kills me every single damn time
The milk, butter and box dropped right at the same time! 4:23!!
Not just that. To my ears it actually sounds on beat with the song.
Joey is killing that tenor game!
How does this not win. The coordination, the creativity, the intonation, the PERFECTLY TIMED STUFF HITTING THE GROUND ON BEAT... how does this not win. No disrespect to any of the other quartets but come on. How does this not even medal
Being that I played Winthrop in my elementary school's version of the musical, Jackson's Daffy duck/Winthrop joke got me good! Great job! Sad to hear that they're broken up for now. Hopefully, we'll see them grace the stage once more in the future.
2:53 the melody from jake is amazing here.i love it
3:11 Also anyone else notice them humming the note here
Things you may have missed:
1) The sound Jackson’s face makes when he slaps it at 0:57
2) Ryan’s face from 1:16 onwards
3) The way Joey says ‘readyyyyyy’ at 1:44
4) 1:50 Jake: “Get your breath now, boys, catch your breath now.”
5) Jackson being a cinnamon roll at 2:03
6) 2:25 “Let me see!” “No.” -slap- “Ow.”
7) Joey squirting Jake in the face at 2:33
8) Joey doing a silent ‘woof’ at 3:08
9) Ryan’s face (again) at 3:19
10) Joey f****n Buss at 3:21
11) 3:35. Because it’s just so beautiful.
12) Ryan’s ‘ughhh’ at 3:40
13) Jake straight up losing the will to live at Joey’s joke and apologising for him at 4:49
God bless these boys, honestly. Protect them at all costs.
don't let them win plz
Honestly thank you for this comment, now whenever I listen to this song there is a whole new level of hearing that make me laugh at seemingly nothing
.... When is Jackson NOT a cinnamon roll?
I'm pretty sure no one missed half of these.
iPyromantic hey yo ..
Would not have believed it if someone told me I’d be into a 5 and a half minute barbershop diss track, but here I am
I seriously cant stop watching
I will never stop loving them, I swear.
My favorite NF4 song this year. It was a tough call considering how great everything else also was.
I'm sure this is a huge stretch and probably my brain connecting things that aren't there, but is there a sneaky Keepsake reference? Right after the Instant Classic bit, where they mention Indiana, they do that train choreo. And Keepsake did that same thing while literally saying Indiana in the Liar Medley. I thought of it immediately. If it wasn't intentional, don't tell me, because that's clever af and I Want to Believe.
The newfangled 4 should win the 2020 contest even though it didn't happen based on the previous year's performance I hereby declare
Good freaking lordy!! The NF4 guys killing it as always. As someone in another country where barbershop is not big and having stumbled over them in the eather of CZcams this quartet has become a standard favourite for both me and my classroom music students. Their videos, quality and entertainment are just that damn good be it the older versions of BananaPhone from a few years back or these new set of videos put out a few days back.
Thank you NewFangled Four!
I love inside jokes even when I'm outside
I have watched so meany barbershop quartet's like Lunch break, Ringmaster's and more but The Newfangled Four is still my very favorite! I love you guy's Good Job!
Guys, I started up this video today with my 2nd grade music class, and one kid said "Hey! Aren't these guys the bananaphone guys?" They all think you're amazing and thee bomb!" You've conquered this demographic for sure! Now I gotta play Bananaphone too! LOL. Love this tune guys.
Was recently in a production of the Music Man as Harold Hill. One of my favorite musicals ever! Loved the reference to Winthrop about half way through.
A couple of additional thoughts:
"What is it?" also could refer to "Bananaphone"
The spit line is in the original "Music Man."
The up-and-down line from Storm Front is also used in SF's version of "Jukebox Saturday Night"
Fred Isaac probably supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
@@axlehivv6053 that’s what I thought it was
MY BOYS ARE BACK
2:34 gives me a slightly panic in COVID days
Gotta love the Lunchbreak reference 😂 you guys are incredible!!!
SQUIRREL!
okay the timing of the stuff hitting the floor at 4:22 is insane
3:33-3:40 is saucy
At 1:50 Jake is saying "take a breath now boys, take a breath now"
Change is going to come. Audience: collective groan
This is such a great version of a great tune from a great musical.
3:00 a reference to the old mcdonald had a deformed farm I love it
Alright I'm commenting on this again because
1. This song has been stuck in my head
2. I decided to watch this four times to see what each of the 4 does in this performance individually. And I noticed that it is totally worth doing that with the NF4.
I realized just how expressive Ryan is (like holy crap just watch Ryan when you watch it you'll see) and how their interpretation of the lyrics differs than mine. Specifically, I'm talking about the reindeer part and how they seem disappointed in the fact that there are no reindeer, which you can tell by Jackson and Ryan's expressions clearly. I originally interpreted it as something along the lines of "reindeer are stupid why would we have them?"
I also noticed that Joey's hand was not the only one slapped at "let me see" because hey I was watching Ryan. And in the multiple times I've watched this video (and made a meme of one screenshot from it-I saw Jake's face there and came back to screenshot it because it was gold) I never noticed that Jake mouths "sorry" after the Signature pun.
I paid attention to Joey and then Jackson my first two times I watched this, so I admit I don't remember much of what they did. However Joey in SQUIRREL and "mousse" is really great and Jackson in general with the face slap and "THEY FINALLY SENT THEM" can never be overlooked.
Idk. I remember sticking out like a sore thumb in choir because I actually expressed myself but getting frustrated because no one else would. If the NF4 are reading this I just wanted to say that I appreciate all the work you put in! And know that absolutely none of it is overlooked!
talk about perfecting craft. The box and dairy containers landed in a perfect rhythmic line ending thump. Jake, don't ever tell me you boys "don't rehearse much" again! this stuff doesn't come by chance!
So Awesome. Wish they all were still together.
Love it! Also, that Signature joke had me shook! I didn’t think they were gonna that direction!
Seriously, how did they not win with this?!?!?!
I'm having flashbacks from bananaphone with all this mystery box unavailing
These guys are fantastic
i will never get enough of these guys theyre incredible
I just recently came across these guys and these awesome entertaining videos. This is some of the best videos I have watched. These guys can sing incredibly and are so funny. This is how entertainment should be.
Absolute comedy genius!! Musically....perfection
Best rendition of that song I've ever heard.
Squirrel! LOVE THAT ONE!!!!! BWAHAHAHA!!!!
2:33 I know Jackson says "something special" but for a few days I heard it as "from Fresno"
This is my new favorite NF4 song if only for the Main Street and Lunchbreak references 😂
But no seriously this was so creative and funny and it sounded great
Thanks for the music and humor. LOVE IT.
Thoroughly enjoy these guys whenever I hear em.
I can’t stop watching their songs someone help
Hilarious arrangement - and the harmony! OMG!
What a treat! Keep NF4 stuff coming. When I need a laugh AND good singing, this is where I'll come. (Main Street won't let me on their site!)
just discovered these guys and love it.
The "SQUIRREL" reference to "Up!" made my night.
Thanks for the shout out to Madison, WI!!! (from Appleton, WI) LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!
These guys are just amazing
Now that's entertainment!
Truly fabulous guys, keep it up.
The musical at my highschool is the music man and I'm crazy pumped!!!!
Love it!!!
This is so smooth!
Excellent, boys!
great stuff...curiously always hanging around Ryan tp bring the harmony together...Change is going to come. "Squirrel......." But it's Ryan who brings them together ....it's a mystery box
These are really entertaining!
3:02 - Wow they really did that.
Reference to Lunch Break's Deformed farm
Edit: And the same for a lot of other groups idk
And the movie Up!
Why haven't they ever won? I love them more than all the rest put together.
Excited for the fall competition. Buying Tix now
they’d actually be great in the new Music Man revival ...
I don’t know what they’re talking about half the time but I almost die laughing every time anyway
Gotta love those Voices of Gotham wristbands they're repping. Amazing and clever performance, as always!!
Iain Haukka those aren’t Gotham bracelets. They’re Baker Strong bracelets.
@@praxisquartet oh wow, I didn't realize! RIP Jeff
this is a nf4 classic
You Da Man Mike!
I will soon post out-takes from Barbershop Quartet groups from Woodstock.
oh my god the cream and butter landed in time. I'm going crazy.
Good job, guys!
2:34 LOL!!
I love them I love them I love them
I fucking love these precious Babs
They timed the clatter of the box, cream and butter perfectly - give them the gold GIVE THEM THE GOLD
*Oh nice singing too, I guess
Absolute Gold!
. Hope your day is well. Sorry for b-ness love. To you.✊
love this what is the mangled stuffed animals from tenn. mean??
These guys RING!!!!!!😃
How did they time the box and the items to hit the ground at the same time? O.o...
gravity?
the items were empty ;)
I think it may have had some experimentation in rehearsal. Cuz the box is thrown first, and that's the only reason they were all at the same time.
Too funny!
