Only twice did Frank let the veil drop, when the nurse brought him a sandwich and when he met his girlfriend at her job and tried to help her with figures from a book. Remembering Steve McQueen born on March 24, 1930. He was an American actor. His antihero persona, emphasized during the height of the counterculture of the 1960's, made him a top box-office draw for his films of the late 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. He was nicknamed the "King of Cool" and used the alias Harvey Mushman in motor races. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_McQueen

The top 3. "Bullett", "The Cincinnati Kid" and "The Thomas Crown Affair." Steve McQueen's best roles in San Francisco, New Orleans and Boston. (An honorable mention- he was really good in "The Towering Inferno", too, as the no-nonsense, battalion fire chief.)

I have watched Steve my whole life and I have no idea what the Oscar means. In Papillon, he is magnificent. The scenes in solitary are obviously great, but he does great suttle things in that movie. The scene where he and Hoffman are waiting for a soft job after bribing guards, and the one guards family lost all in counterfeit bonds, . Kilo forty...both of them .. what is Kilo Forty??. And Steve leans over. Great .everybody whatcha that scene again

McQueen ranks in the top 10 in all-time screen presence. However, he never really got very many great roles but what he did with the roles he got was amazing. His presence made many of his films very good but perhaps not a truly great one. His top 10 in no order: The Cincinnati Kid / Love With the Proper Stranger / The Towering Inferno / Bullitt / Soldier in the Rain / The Sand Pebbles / The St. Louis Bank Robbery / Baby the Rain Must Fall / Papillon / An Enemy of the People.

One other point is that the list of films he turned down could’ve made him a bigger star. Among the films he turned down was Apocalypse Now, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, First Blood and Sorcerer

"The Great Escape is perhaps one of the best war epic war films of all time." Sorry, but it's not even close. It's a great flick, but it's not in the same class as Paths of Glory, Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Stalag 17, The Longest Day, Enemy at the Gates, Glory, Go Tell the Spartans, etc... My top favorite McQueen movies are Papillon, The Sand Pebbles and The Getaway (not in any particular order). I also liked his last film The Hunter.

I agree with others in this comment section. I grew up watching him on wanted Dead or alive. I still watch reruns of that over and over I thought he was awesome. I loved it when he capture someone and he just looked down and say let's go.!. He's just one of those type of people that you could tell he was battling those inner demons but yet he was using them to entertain us all. Seems like nowadays we don't have these iconic people in the movies anymore.
