He was so good looking, one of the greatest actors but Lord he was gorgeous!
I think he looks way better with the mustache. He looks good without it too though.
@@sam.lipchutz I agree, he looks better without the mustache.
I think "hombre" is one of the best but highly underrated (western) movies of the world.
Hombre is an extremely, extremely underrated movie. It is absolutely one of my favorite movies. I would like to say my character is similar to the protagonist Paul Newman plays in Hombre. Paul Newman is my favorite actor, slightly ahead of Denzel Washington. God bless Paul Newman's soul.
Though The Hustler is the best in my opinion, this ranking is almost correct.
Great Paul Newman!
All of these outstanding performances especially Cool Hand Luke I can't believe he only has one Oscar!!!
Slap Shot, Paul Newman and the Hanson brothers, ICONIC !
Great list, but I think Road To Perdition should've gotten a mention as well. Although it was one of Newman's last performances, his performance in that movie was outstanding.
That's right!
love Road to Perdition seems like Paul stole every scene. Even up in age he had such a screen presence.
@@bartsullivan4866 He definitly had.
Newman & Redford......
Utterly mesmerising together.
What they have is a masterclass in how to communicate!
Robert Redford and Paul Newman are two legends of all time.
Just watched the sting and butch cassidy. What a fucking duo. What a ride.
Ahhh when actors were allowed to be men and shocker all the girls wanted to be with them. Strange how Hollywood has that ideal reversed now.
The Hustler #1 that performance was electrifying …🍺🍺
"Slap Shot" was his best performances. He was so good in it I thought he was a Canadian
Brilliant in every role, my favorites Cool Hand Luke and The Verdict
The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, love it.
Yes that was a great film not been on for a long time when in that bar at the start he gets robbed beat up and dumped then he burst s in and does the lot off them in shoots the lot whores as well and ends up with a pet bear and fight s the albino well dosnt fight him blows a hole in his back great film
Absence Of Malice was a great Newman role and Harper I would add for a top twelve.
The Verdict was so damn good that film still doesn't get enough praise.
You have to have ‘Slap Shot’ in the list ! Newman’s best role and ‘Towering Inferno’ too. 😎👍🏻
1. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
2. Hud
3. The Verdict
4. Cool Hand Luke
5. The Hustler
6. The Sting
7. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
8. Somebody up there likes Me
9. Hombre
10. The Color of Money
Hud and Hombre we're just stunning movies.
He was a contemporary of brando but took longer to mature. No doubt he made better movies than brando and arguably had a better career. Newman is an absolute legend
Always in the shadow of Brando. Don't get me wrong Paul Newman was a great actor but he was a bit unlucky because Brando was a genius, best ever.
Probably much easier to work with than Brando and seems to have done a lot helping people starting up his own line of foods at Costco and being a huge race fan/driver. Hard not to like the guy.
Paul Newman a great legend all his roles he played were so captive.RIP
Paul Neman was one of greatest actors in movies of all time 😉😉😍😍👍👍👍👍!!! Like The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke , The Color of Money, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting , The Long Hot Summer , The Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Hud !!! Paul Newman is great movie stars in films !! Great Academy Award actor😉👍👍👍❤️❤️😍😍😎😎😉😉😊😁!! RIP to you Paul Newman😢😢😥 !!
For me, the top 10 are Paris Blues, Torn Curtain, The Long Hot Summer, Cat on a Hot tin Roof, The Young Philadelphians, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, Hud, Cool Hand Luke, Sweet Bird of Youth.
Ya gotta get Absence of Malice in there somewhere…!!!!
Newman made so many good movies. My faves are The Sting, Cool Hand Luke, Slap Shot and The Hustler. Great actor.
Hombre
Sometimes a great notion
Exodus was a great epic that should be on the list!
ok :)
Agree
Slap shot will always be my favorite Newman movie. Cool Hand Luke and the Sting are my second and third favorites.
What were their names, the 3 Hanson brothers? Those guys were unbelievable! " Old time hockey, Eddie Shore".
He was amazing in the Sting. Such an incredible movie
Well "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" is my number one favorite all time movie during my whole life, so .........
I love all his films, but especially his rollicking starring roles in Butch Cassidy & Sunance Kid, and The Sting. Both films are cinematic masterpieces of great acting, great writing, great plot twists, & great fun. I love him with Tom Cruise too in The Color of Money reprising his role in the 1980's of Fast Eddie Felsib from The Hustler. His other early work in 50's and 60's was both macho and thoughtful. He was one of the best!
"There are only murderers in this room." Road to Perdition. Great actor. As well as Tom Hanks.
I really enjoyed Winning and Fort Apache the Bronx. His scene in the hospital was incredible! Absence of Malice and Harper too. I love them all
"Butch ......" is my #1 all time fav movie. I have poster right here on my wall. But I'd have to say that Newman's performance in "Cool Hand Luke" was his best.
I agree on cool hand luke
The Sting had to be No 1. I watched at 14 and was blown away. Mind you, he was superb in The Verdict - I'd already read the book and thought he nailed it. Deserved Oscars for both.
I would have thought "The Towering Inferno" would have been in there too. After all, it was nominated for best picture at that time.
I love the Sting but I would have gone Sting at #2 and Cool Hand Luke at #1, but they were both great films.. Hud would have been higher on my list.
Cool hand Luke is one of my favorite movies. Sometimes a great nation is awesome too, and filmed where I grew up.
They are all great films. Personally, I would have ranked "NOBODY'S FOOL" higher on the list. Mr. Newman and the ensemble cast were all first rate!
Somebody up there likes me - Newman's performance was dynamite
A big fan of Paul Newman, his movies, since the mid 50s. Saw most of them at the show. My favorites are The Verdict and Road to Perdition. Man... a great actor. Find myself watching him closely on the screen. He has a definite presence. Cool Hand Luke. The Rack. The Sting. Too many to recount here. Part of my past memories. Thank you for those many good movies. RIP.
Newman and Redford are really two of the greatest actors-especially when they play together. I laughed when I heard Bella Ciao while presenting the Sting!
ALL HIS MOVIES WERE THE BEST I MISS HIM❤
The Long Hot Summer and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof are both on my top 10 list of all time.
Where's Sometimes a Great Notion?!?! One incredible movie!
Right? I grew up in that area in Oregon. The Ken Kesey novel is a helluva read. The logging culture was portrayed accurately, Newman did his own stunts and cut timber.
I would rank Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid above The Sting. I'd also add Harper and Absence of Malice somewhere.
Great list. I am from India and love every movie of Paul Newman. I guess Matthew McConaughey reminds me of Newman. Acting, looks and all.
@Lis Vange I am out of here. But I just came to reply to you. 😀 Regards
Lucky enuf 2 hv been able 2 watch movies 1 to 5. All 5 were enjoyable. Favourites wd b no. 1, 2, 3 & 5. Really cannot say exactly which one i like best as they were all so good. Wd love 2 watch more of paul's classics but not easily available nowadays. also seen some other of his movies that r not in the list. i wd include the follow up to the hustler, colour of money somewhere in the list. absolutely love his acting n charisma.
Wonderful great looking and charismatic actor!
He was also the voice of dock Hudson in Pixar's classic Cars
The Verdict is Newman’s greatest film, narrowly edging out The Hustler and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid for first place. In addition, I hugely admire Judge Roy Bean and Towering Inferno: the interactions of Newman with Holden, McQueen and Chamberlain in the latter are brilliant! I never saw Newman in a bad film, and let alone turn in a sub-standard performance. Tremendous actor!
I agree The Verdict is his best performance, but I think it is light years ahead of anything else he ever did not by a narrow margin… But by light years
I have got two movie DVDS of
Paul Newman with
Steve McQueen William Holden
Richard Chamberlain
and Fred Astaire in
The Towering Inferno
with Robert Redford in
The Sting
I am dedicating these movie DVDS to my old school friends who are both sisters and I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris Marie and Hester Brand from Billyxxxxx
Nothing better than Cool Hand Luke
you should watch the video in reverse then :p
My all time favorite actor. But I would have included Absence of Malice in this list.
Yeah that was a good one too.
I like the movie The Prize, great movie, and Torn Curtin, good movie too.
I loved the sting and butch Cassidy but can you honestly say his performances were better than the verdict? No way! That was one of these most powerful performances ever! He was so good in that I just have to say that was his best character in his career! If you have not seem it watch it all the way through !
My top three The Sting, Towering Inferno and Butch and Sundance
So many people are unaware that Newman's character in
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was a
Closeted Homosexual in Love with his Football Teammate. That's why he was so Indifferent to his wife Maggie. Shot in the Fifties, this story line could never had made it pass the Censors! Still, a very good
Hollywood Classic! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Yes, it was essential Tennessee Williams. Sweet Bird of Youth wasn't as good a film, but it was another example of Newman in a Williams play that was cleaned up for the screen.
@@grouchomarxist5612
Thanks for the information.
I didn't know about the Sweet
Bird of Youth!
I appreciate it! 😃
color of money and slapshot should be on this list.
What a career! Hard to not go top 20. I can't argue at all with any other opinions. I would say I think Cat is way overrated. I also would put Hud in top 5 if not top 3, but it's a moot point. So many good movies.
Newman’s greatest role was as player coach Reggie Dunlap in the movie Slap Shot
Absolutely- one of my all time favorite movies as well as one of Paul Newman best roles. Unfortunately, it was slighted because it was seen as vulgar, even though it starred (besides Newman) some incredible and well know actors of the time.🤣
He was gorgeous!
Sometimes a Great Notion, with Henry Fonda is one of the best movies of all time. I don't understand why it's so little known.
"little known"? Ive never heard of it.
It is a very rare gem. Hardly ever getting any attention. Really great movie.
@@aspenrebel It's free on CZcams
@@rick419 Oh wait I've seen that. I didn't recognize the movie title.
Is it based on the ken Kesey novel?
from The Silver Chalice to The Sting ...QUITE a leap in the right direction ! As Fast Eddie Felson he established himself as one of THE BEST in my book..
That you’ve opted not to include Absence of Malice on this list is causing me great distress.
Don't be distressed, be impressed. All the movies listed are fine performances. The fact that one as good as in "Absence of Malice", not to mention "Somebody up there likes me" is a testimony to the greatness of this man's work.
when you can leave off such great films it really shows you what kind of career he had. I would have a few of these films in different order but he was amazing no doubt about that. He always seemed so sly and clever like he knew something you didn't. Modern day movie stars could really learn something if they watched his films.
@@michaelst7680 2 good movie indeed
Seeing this I realized how many great films he was in I think cool hand luke was his greatest acting feat but many close seconds in butch cassidy the Sting the Hustler the verdict even in somebody up there likes me
I agree the list is pretty good, but I would have put The Young Philadelphians in at 2 or 3 really is a stellar movie Newman is sensational a must watch
Young paul Newman: HUD.+ COOL HAND LUJE
Mature Paul Newman: THE VERDICT . And overall performance of Paul's Career..one of the most finest, accurate and moving play in the history of cinema...the more you're maturing the more you're understand the struggles and belief of the main character. Morale, justice, courage and integrity superior to money and power.
Before watching I would go with, in order, Cool Hand Luke, The Sting, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Butch Cassidy, Hombre, Somebody Up There Likes Me, The Long Hot Summer, Hud, The Hustler and The Verdict. Now to watch and see what I've forgotten.
Edit:
After watching the video I'm amazed at how similar it is to my list, with 9 of the 10 movies matching and the order similar. I've never heard of Nobody's Fool so it didn't make my list. I'm a bit surprised the classic, Somebody Up There Likes Me, wasn't included in your top 10.
Good call on the order, I enjoyed every one of these movies.
Great list. I also love The Young Philadelphians and Harper which I would have put in place of Nobody’s Fool and Hombre. The rest are in the exact order I’d put them in.
All great movies. But should have added Slap Shot.
You forgot Son of Perdition!! Great movie
I think you mean "Road to Perdition."
@@grouchomarxist5612 yes you right my Bad! Great movie
The Hustler is the One. However, Harper, Winning, The Young Philadelphians, Exodus, Fort Apache Bronx, The Prize (One my all-time favorites), Torn Curtain, The MacIntosh Man and The Slap Shot could be on the Top 10 list.
I love the Macintosh Man because it was shot in Malta my country and my uncle appears as an extra. He was the policeman going down the stairs as Newman entered the Police HQ of Malta. My uncle was a real policeman at the time and I think was paid 15 or 20 sterlings for the part. He was also in the movie Witness on his policeman bike.
@@sebastianvella8992 I always admired the people of Malta for their courage and tenacity for resisting and surviving the constant bombing by the Nazis’ Luftwaffe during WW II. Malta also is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Thank you for sharing your uncle’s story.
@@mshahnazi7636 oh no problem my friend.
Perhaps "colour of money" and "paris blues" should be on the list? Anyway he was wonderful!
暴力脱獄、スティング、ハスラー、動く標的のニューマンが特に好きです🎥😁
Paul has made at least 7 movies with a capital H in the movie title (including The Long Hot Summer)
slap shot, old time hockey!!
Slap Shot is my clear cut #1!
Just saw Butch Cassidy again and frankly it is about an hour of long shots on horse back . I would place HUD and The Hustler higher on the list. Otherwise, nice list.
Remembering Paul Newman born on January 26, 1925. He was an American actor, film director, race car driver, and entrepreneur. Newman was the recipient of numerous awards, including an Academy Award, and three Golden Globe Awards. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Newman
The Sting is great. Cool Hand Luke, The Hustler. I love those Newman movies. Hud I just never could get into. While Tom Cruise is over the top at times in The Color of Money, I really enjoyed Paul Newman in that one as well.
I did too, although, I don't know which film I would replace it with.
Cruise was supposed to be over the top. I think he nailed that role
Yeah I never liked 10. "Summer"; 9. "Nobody's Fool"; 8. "Hombre"; 6. "Hud"; 4. "Cat". I liked the rest. "Butch" is my all time fav movie!!. Trying to think what Paul Newman's best performance was, probably "Cool Hand Luke".
Also good in "The Hustler", "The Sting", and "Butch" of course. "Slap Shot" was probably the most irreverent movie ever made. I was not thrilled with "Color of Money". I can't believe he won the Academy award for best actor. I liked him better as the young "Fast Eddie" instead of the older "Fast Eddie".
I must say that The Color of Money has one of my best Tom Cruise roles. It's one of thos roles that even though he acts ''over-the-top'' doesn't feel forced at all. It feels like it's in his character's nature.
The Color of Money should have been on this list somewhere.
HE WAS NOBODY FOOL
Hombre is Paul's most important movie. There isn't one word of dialogue or action that isn't brutally honest and believable, and the ending forces you to assess your own life. If it's bloody gunfights you're after, go elsewhere; this movie is all about the human condition, and it's a monument to the craft of story telling.
COOL HAND LUKE #1👍
Well he wasn’t the lead, but Road to Perdition should be on this list
SO GOOD LOOKING ❤
Cool hand Luke handsdown
Amazing actor I would like to add the color of money and absence of malice! Rip.my friend🙏❤😔
"That's what you get for playing with your head up your ass, one more like that and we'll all go to bed early." -- Paul Newman
😂🤣🤣👍
I think there may be an error. You said in video that "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid" started in 1899 in Wyoming. I looked up information online and it says that also. But I seem to recall Butch sitting there and saying to Sundance that we should join the army and go fight the Spanish. They'd make us officers. But the Spanish-American war was April 1898 to December 1898, not 1899+. So there seems to be a problem there somewhere.
The Left Handed Gun 1956 . And thank you
You missed slapshot
Vi varias de sus películas.
Sometimes a great notion should be top 5.
The Verdict was his best film
‘WHO YOU ! I’m Reggie Dunlop . . The coach !’😎👍🏻
I was shocked the first time I saw him act in a movie.
Fat Man and Little Boy,
The Left Handed Gun,
Cool Butch was quite a Hombre !
Disappointed no mention of Exodus.
"Cool Hand Luke" should be number one.
The Young Philadelphians, of course
they left out somebody up there likes me. the story of rocky graziano. great movie.
Yo, what about Exodus?!? Interesting historically, but also an exciting movie.,
