    Thanks for taking so much time to research the history and culture of Nepal triggered through stamps. As an avid world stamp collector and a keen birdwatcher who went on a birding holiday there in 1999 this episode was fascinating. We rode on elephants to view families of wild Indian One-horned Rhinoceros up close and personal, as they only saw harmless elephants rather than humans on board. We also went on a 4 day trek in Annapurna National Park which is en route to Mt. Everest base camp and the scenery was breathtaking especially when walking the trail alongside Machha Puchhre during a golden sunset which you featured at 25:11 in your video. An interesting fact is that it is the highest mountain in the world to have never been successfully climbed as everyone attempting it died whilst trying to do so. As a result the Nepalese government now refuses to give permits to climb it to avoid more fatalities. But that just adds extra mystery to its undoubted beauty and is calling colloquially Fish Tail mountain due to its uniquely shaped summit.
    Sadly we saw no pheasants though as we would have needed to go even higher than we went. I was amazed at how happy and friendly all the locals were despite all their apparent hardships. I was awestruck at seeing young girls carrying enormous loads on their heads on narrow mountain paths that I bet I could hardly lift and yet still we were met by a sunny smile I would never get here in the UK. It was a great experience that I was able to relive again through your great video despite my senior years.

    I must admit I started watching this episode a few days ago and could not get interested in Nepal's story; however, I only watched a couple of minutes. Then I thought, wait a minute, every Exploring Stamps episode that Graham publishes has been extremely researched and interestingly presented. So, I finished watching this episode to discover that while I probably will never collect Nepalese stamps the complete story that included the Himalayas is very interesting and compelling. The amount of research required for this episode was obviously extensive as you made the story enticing! I should have known; your work is always impeccable. I am also amazed at the philatelic material you found and weaved into this episode. I don't know how you find these pieces for your stories and collection but I'm glad you do as they add to the quality of your story. Once again, thanks Graham. Oh, and I had to laugh.......I can only imagine how you must have pitched the idea of traveling to Nepal to Laura!

    What an interesting take on this still little known mountain country. I was especially intrigued by the fingerprint on your base camp postcard from Nuptsi. At first I thought it was another kind of cancellation unique to the expedition, or perhaps an addition to the signature of a climber, something like the precursor of an emoji. That it actually was made by a postal runner is even more interesting and revealing.

    • @ExploringStamps

    22:17 some interesting thing here, below the text Mt. Everest, it's written "Sagarmatha" in nepali, which is its local name and means "head of the ocean". Now that is more interesting because the mountains were created because the Indian subcontinent plate crashed with the other part and gave rise to the Bunch of mountains and interestingly before its creation there was an ocean out there so it's epic that the locals knew about this event for thousands of years.

Also I know it's not the focus of the video but I just found your B-roll shots to be well planned and super calming (especially in my now chaotic life). Bravo!!! Great episode. When I was at primary school (age 5-11) in the early 1960's one of my teachers was a former officer in a Gurkha regiment. Fantastic and informative episode as always, Graham. The amount of information you are able to convey while keeping it entertaining is phenomenal.
    I particularly love the Nuptse expedition card!
    Among the signatures that you didn't highlight is the legendary climber and author Chris Bonnington on one of his early expeditions. One of 19 climbs he's done in the Himalayas alone..
    Do yourself a favour and spend a few minutes reading about him:

      Thank you Paul!! Yes you completely right, I probably should have pointed him out. I had actually gone down a rabbit hole learning about Bonnington and the 82 Everest expedition where he lost fellow mountaineers Pete Boardman and Joe Tasker. Crazy!! Glad you liked the expedition card, thanks so much for watching 😊

      No, the stamps have to be on mail from the country that they are issued from.

      @ExploringStamps  Před rokem +1

      @@evrosglijin6566 the UPU doesn’t conflict with this, it’s totally aligned and is about accepting international mail with other country stamps, it’s not about accepting other country stamps on mail originating in their own country.
      If I took UK stamps to Australia and expect Auspost to deliver mail for me, they would lose money. I need to buy Australian stamps to send mail in and from Australia, this pays for the service that Auspost provides.
