Let's unbox, review, and fully install an under sink Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) system. This is the APEC Ultimate RO-PERM Boosted system from Amazon. Most under-sink systems will install very similarly. - Jak na to + styl
A tip for anyone mounting their filter system under their sink like this. You WILL need a towel under the filters when you remove them. They will be full of water and it will get every where under the sink area. Mount it a little higher if possible. You can even mount a little board (1x2 board or something) to the side and then mount the filter system to the board to get it away from the side of the cabinet a little (helps with unscrewing the filters).
But this all depends on the room under the sink.
Excellent video! I wasn't sure I wanted to tackle this project myself, but now that I've watched your video, I am confident I can do it. Also appreciate the recommendation for the RO unit.
Thanks from Guatemala. This was of great help to me
Thank you for the thorough video. This will help with my Apec installation.
Sure thing, my water was nasty before that system! Consider subscribing, I'm always working on stuff that I'll start posting more. Thanks for the comment, makes it worth filming and editing these videos!
Awesome video!
I was going to be lazy and not hang the filters, thanks for the heads up. Totally forgot that I might have to replace the carbon filters and I will regret it then.
Looking forward to other videos. Planning to replace my kitchen sink.
As I do projects I'll make more videos! Glad it helped, thanks for the subscription!
Really well explained step by step installation video. Super awesome job Herb-O. I hadn't seen your material before but I had already subscribed. Your video really convinced me I'm totally able to do this installation myself. I just ordered a RO-PH90 and will also hook it up to the fridge icemaker. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
Thanks Jaime! That mean a ton! I'm going to make a small mod to the system to improve it, stay tuned. Thanks for the sub man!
Added a shutoff valve to my fridge Love it so far
Thanks for the walkthrough. I was considering buying a Waterdrop system but I installed an Apec for my in-laws a couple years ago and the flow rate of these systems SPANKS the Waterdrop system that my mom owns. It takes about 12 seconds per 7oz with the higher flow Waterdrop vs 12 seconds per 32oz for the high flow Apec-- almost 5x flow rate and they're both RO. Huge difference. It's worth the space needed for a tank IMO.
Glad I could help! I'm going to start posting all the stuff I have to fix or install. Subscribe for more projects!
Great video, Thank you!!
Thanks Miguel, I'll be installing a variant of this system in the next few weeks. Please subscribe, it would help a ton!
where is the ice maker part of the video
Thanks so much for the informative video. Helped me install mine last year. I came back to re-watch to see how you ran to the fridge. How's the water pressure on the fridge?
Thanks man, water pressure is good. Not as strong as it was hooked up to city water direct but it makes good sized ice cubes (you can adjust the size of cubes). I usually use the little faucet the kit comes with because it's 3 times faster.
Great video, one of the best I have seen on doing this setup. I am about convinced to go ahead and buy this model. My only apprehension is the fridge hookup. I currently have a setup similar from a local company. I'll get under the sink and see how they hooked it up and follow that procedure with the fridge hookup.
Why should I pay $31 a month to rent it, when I can just buy the unit? Thanks for the video!
You got it Dave!, if you hold out, I'll post a video on a slightly better variant of this system, I just have to edit the video.
I agree, save the $31! You'll have your money back in 1 year. That's a 100% return!
How to adjust the high pressure electric valve for RO water sistem ?
Always like a good reverse osmosis install. I installed a similar system for my refrigerator. Wondering if you had any issues with pressure to the refrigerator and it causing ice making issues. I ended up having to install a secondary pressure tank as well as a booster pump in between the reverse osmosis system and the refrigerator. Now I have no issues with ice at all.
Hi there! Not sure if you’re still monitoring this thread but if you are I could use your help. I recently changed all 6 filters on my system. Unfortunately had to take off all the tubing because I couldn’t get the cap off the membrane canister. Now I don’t remember where some of the tubing goes. Your system is same as mine right down to ice maker hook up. What connects to the ends of the membrane filter? Thanks for you help
This has helped so much.
Quick question.... how does the system know when to stop feeding water?
Once the tank is filled, it would seem that any further water trying to push through the membrane would not be able to and thus the water would just keep running through the waste line.
there is a smart switch on the back that detects the pressure and stops when it knows the tank is full. The water goes both ways through the hose. To fill the tank and when there is a call for water it comes from the tank, when the tank is low its bi-directional, usually slow flow until the tank regains water and pressure builds inside then it stops
@@kennethnicklowicz1030 Thanks, do you worry about stagnant water in the tank since the there is only one tube in/out?
One thing I don't quite get. Where was the refrigerator feed coming from before you hooked up the RO unit? I see where you showed the PEX line coming off the back of the fridge. Was the fridge not yet hooked up to a water line? I have a braided flexible hose coming of a feed behind the fridge and that goes to a module on the fridge. From there, PEX lines come out of that module to the ice maker and water dispenser. Any ideas as to how to deal with this? I'm guessing I should remove that braided feed hose and replace it with PEX and a PEX fitting that goes from under the sink to the module. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!
It was hooked to the wall where a spigot was installed for the fridge.
I ordered two of the APEC 6 stage R. O. units. I did not order the one with electric pump because my outlet is where my garbage disposal is connected to and it only works when you turn on the switch. Just an FYI out there.
99% of the time, the outlet is split and one side is continuous the other side is switched. This is usually done to support a dishwasher. YMMV as they say.
I get about 35psi from my well pump, do you think this will help make up the difference and fill the tank. Right now I get about half a gallon in the tank before it stops filling.
I have low water pressure in our house in Mexico; so I had a booster pump installed. The pump delivers 60 psi when it senses any device that is open. Otherwise I don't believe you will ever solve your problem with low pressure.
Do they call it 1/8 pex or 1/4 pex? I can only find 1/4 pex on amazon.
1/4 inch pex is what you want
Not intalling clip for quick connector fitting?
I don't believe you need it. The tank psi is 5 to 7 pounds of pressure. Tap pressure is city pressure from 45 to 80.
I just pop the top filters off and loosen the filters on the ground.
Could split the female in half and you don't want that. My fiance is laughing in the background. Bro me too I was like I mean usually they enjoy it from what I hear. I appreciate the giggle bro.
Is this system made in china?
Sorry just seen the American Flag.
