  • In this video I'll demonstrate how to use Revit's Design Option tool to display a set of massing strategies.
    1:00 Initiate Design Options
    1:30 Create New Option Set
2:00 Creating new options within the Set
2:20 Assigning objects to Design Options
3:10 Primary Option & Main Model visibility
4:10 Moving the isolated options to a common spot on the site
5:25 Testing initial visibility of the Design Options
5:50 Creating duplicated 3D views for each Design Option
6:30 Creating the sheet & views
7:00 Fixing the views so they don't all display the same Design Option
7:38 Visibility Graphic Overrides to display unique Design Options

Most newer CAD apps have tree navigation structures that can be used to control the visibility of individual objects and groups of objects. This paradigm is much simpler and more powerful than Revit's design option setup.
Further, using an object tree approach it's easy to commingle high level massing elements with regions of more detailed modeling. Just use visibility settings to control the progression from massing study to detail in a single model.
