I looked up consignment / secondhand bridal shops in my area. I went to one that is run completely by volunteers and sells only donated gowns. All the money from purchased dresses goes to a cancer support community. I found the dress I wanted on the first visit! The price was above my budget, but the fact that it is a charitable donation made me feel better. Plus I like that a reused dress keeps down on waste. And this is a classy gown fit for a queen. I imagine it would be 3x the price in a retail getup.

Got mine from JJS House 2 years ago. I got a fixed size rather than my measurements. I needed the train removed anyway so I decided just to get the fixed size and get it properly adjusted after I received it. It cost around $125 for the adjustment at an independent wedding dress shop and they steamed it too. I loved the dress!

Got my dress from lulus and love it! The dress was on clearance ($74) so for the dress and alterations it was less than $300. Plus I was able to order several dresses to try on (in the comfort of my own home) and return the rest. Definitely not a crazy fancy dress but well made and perfect for my style.

I’m wearing my mom’s dress! I’m much bustier than her so we actually took the zipper out ourselves and added a backless corset! I’m so obsessed and it’s so special to me, it was a great project for my mom and I to work on together as well. And we spent maybe $15 in total on the corset that we got off Amazon to add in! Saved SO MUCH $$$

Found my Maggie sottero double lace fit and flare dress at a local second hand store for $100 it was in perfect condition and fit like a glove! Only thing I'm doing to the dress is getting it cleaned for $60 and having off the shoulder tulle sleeves added for $40 and that's it, it already has a bustle and its the perfect length. I seen the same dress on used websites going for $700-$900 (used) so I definitely got an amazing deal.

I have two dresses. One I got on the outlets clearance at Azazie. $300 dress I only paid $60. It is the traditional long train, lace (very Kate Middleton) wedding dress I will wear for the ceremony. Then I got my second look from Poshmark. It's a beautiful gold sequin number that I got half off (still $120) and it was in perfect condition. No alterations needed. So I got two looks for less than $200!

I bought my dress from the sales section online at Vow'd Weddings. Great experience and customer service. I got my dress at 60% off the original price ($1300) and it was brand new!! It was a mermaid silhouette dress that I bought with confidence after trying on many mermaid dresses at local bridal boutiques where I live. I also shopped sample sales in my area at a boutique where all designer samples were $1000 or less.

I wish I knew about secondhand dresses before I went shopping! ALSO, in other countries it's normal to simply rent a dress like men rent tuxes!!! 🤯It's actually quite obvious, but I had never even considered that, and I probably would've gone that route if I could've. Good luck dress hunting, everybody. 🤗

  • @dreamingofbutterflies

My dress story is quite simple, actually. You see, here in Transylvania there are these things called Wedding Expos, where different vendors (from dress shops, photographers and videographers, florists, cake makers and everything else in between) get together and present their stuff, and you can also try on dresses. These dresses are also discounted, so you can buy them off the rack, or they apply a discount to your order. So after the longest engagement in history 😅(7 years) my fiance and I finally decided to get married this year, as it will also be the 10 year anniversary of our first date. Naturally, this means going to these expos and finding stuff. One of them was my dress, which also was the first wedding dress I ever tried on! Never thought I would find it so fast, but I did, an it's PERFECT. And only paid like 600$ for it! So buying off the rack sure has its benefits. Just make sure it fits your body as close to perfect as possible, so you don't have to pay a ton for alterations.

I bought a sample dress from a high-end bridal boutique when it went belly up during a closeout sale. After some time I decided to sell it, posted it on preownedweddingdresses for a while, and got an offer from preowned to post it on nearlynewlywed for free. So I did, then some months later I got an offer on nearly newlywed. They really put me through the ringer with the videos, pictures, e-mails, waiting to hear from the potential buyer, and deadlines to submit things to them! I had to stand in the middle of my street with the dress to get sunlight pictures. Yes, the neighbors were very intrigued at what the hell I was doing in the middle of the street with a wedding dress. Plus, Nearlynewlywed took 30% which sucked but I finally got rid of that thing! It was worth it and I got some closet space back.

If you live in/around Michigan (Ann Arbor) I can’t recommend The Bride’s Project enough. All dresses are donated (some have never been worn) but they don’t sell anything more than 5 years old so nothing is really outdated. It was just like the experience of a first run bridal salon but honestly better because I felt no pressure to buy anything! And all proceeds go to families affected by cancer.

I'm probably going to end up going new because my MIL is the mother of three boys and no girls, so the shopping experience is something nice for us to do together. Very strongly leaning towards black because I hate how I look in light colours and it's a Halloween wedding, but I'm open-minded; ivory is supposed to work on everybody, so if there's an ivory dress that can bring enough gothic charm to bear, I'd love to go more traditional.

Everything about my wedding is going to be unconventional, so the dress will be no different. My fiance and I have an extremely tight budget but we knew that from the start and also don't want expensive features so it's not detrimental to our vision of our wedding, anyway.
Originally, I had a friend offer to make my dress but since we lived so far away, it became too much of a hassle to plan, fit, figure out texture/fabric, etc. But now, I plan on pursuing a white party/occasion dress (not wedding) from Etsy and if the fit is a little off, my friend is willing to alter it which takes a lot less time than making something from scratch.
(I even actually was going to get a blue dress originally, but decided I would feel too self-conscious in a dress THAT unconventional. I decided I'm okay with white since I'm getting something abnormal anyway.)

I am looking for an A line, sweetheart neckline, off the shoulder dress, in ivory over blush with lace details on the bodice, I know what I want the issue is that I don't want to spend a ton of money on a dress i am only wearing for 6 hours! If anyone is selling or has a suggestion please let me know, thank you!

Help!!! Im looking for a dress that can be turned to a ombre blue 😩 I only have 1 year to find one that’s perfect and I’m panicking on the prices due to how low my budget it which is $800.

I am getting married please I try goodwill. I am not paying $1,000 for a dress I will be wearing once. I did try bridal shops and prices are redicules.
