    I have had my Aprilaire Model 600 Humidifier for 21 years and have watched numerous videos on how to replace the water panel - - this video is the best by far! Great job! Having replaced my water panel many times over the years, I have a couple tips not covered in the video.
    First, be very careful when handling the water hose. Over time it will get very brittle and if your basement is cold like mine this will make it even more brittle so it can easily snap in two if you bend it too much. This happened to me a few years ago and threw a big wrench into my replacement as I had to order a replacement hose which took a few days to arrive.
    Second related tip is don't insert the water hose into the distribution tray until the new water panel is installed in the humidifier. When I do it the way shown in the video at 2:49, I end up twisting and bending the water hose too much when trying to fit the water panel into the humidifier which then makes it susceptible to snapping in two pieces. Final tip is reminding yourself to replace the water panel every year at the start of the heating season. It only costs about $13.00 and replacing it annually not only guarantees optimal performance but also minimizes time cleaning out built up mineral deposits on the filter frame and distribution tray which can be very hard to remove.

      Thank you for taking the time to write the helpful and thoughtful comment. I do cringe a bit when handling that hose, it never has seemed to be super flexible, though I guess it isn't old enough to become brittle and break.

    Great video for replacing the filter. I have a question.... my water hose became brittle and broke into many pieces when I handled it. Aprilaire sent me a replacement. Is it easy to replace myself? Do I need special tools?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 3 lety +1

      You just need a wrench to loosen the nut where the hose is attached to the solenoid body.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Few questions
    -Can i wash the filter with CLR instead of buying a new one?
    -What should i look for if i buy a filter at homedepot?
    -Also I was told that if I have no AC in my house then I can leave it on to "winter" all year. Is that true?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 4 lety

      Hi Saad, thanks for watching the video. It's hard to say if you can re use your filter by cleaning it with CLR. The filters have a coating on them, you wouldn't want to remove that coating. I have found the filters on eBay at a reasonable price. I live in Pennsylvania and our summers are very humid, so adding moisture to the air is not desirable. I suppose if you live in a dry hot climate, you could try humidifying the air and monitor the level with a humidistat.

      To be clear you don't have a control with the knob on it? If you follow the wires from the solenoid, (that's the thing to the left of the humidifier which has tubes and a pair of wires on it) it should connect to the control.

    The last two humidifier pads I've purchased for my Aprilaire 600 have no "mark" to go by to tell which is the proper direction. Also on that light on the control panel continually flashes green in the test mode so I assume everything is ok. Other than that this is a great video.

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 3 lety

      Yes, the light should flash green while in test mode.

  • @karlstemac5873
    @karlstemac5873 Před 3 lety

    If it doesn't have marks do this, looking down on the filter observe the mesh it should look darker when in the right direction. flip it over you will notice a difference, lighter reflection. this is because the mesh is cupped to hold water (thus darker) when it is wrong it looks lighter (whiter so to speak) and it will shed the water not what you want. hope this helps.

    does it matter which way water flows through the filter?? When you say the mark on the filter determines flow, I assume that means it should be up. I don't have a pipe under the unit but don't get any dripping? Is not having that piping a problem?? Thanx

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 4 lety

      The filters are designed to have water flow in only one direction. Put the painted/ marked end at the top of the filter holder, as shown in the video.

      @@Know-How-Now I have the painted end up but I meant from front to back or does that not matter? Also I never see anything coming out of that bottom drain so am wondering what it is for???

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 4 lety

      It doesn't matter which way you flip the filter, but the marked end must be at the top. Hey what if the filter is aluminum? Just washout with vinegar or still
    Replace?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 8 měsíci +1

      In the past, I've soaked mine in vinegar and then gently brushed off the loose scales. There is a special coating on the filter, you don't want to remove that. I don't clean them anymore. I found I can change the filter every 3 years. I got a bunch of them for a good price on eBay. If you have hard water or a long heating season, you might have to change it every year. For sure you don't want it to be clogged up.

  • @ucanoe
    @ucanoe Před 3 lety

    Hi, why do we have to change the panel? mine looks fine to me? not dirty or clogged? Thx

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 3 lety

      After the water evaporates it leaves mineral deposits behind. The timing on changing it depends on your water and the length of your heating season. The little cups hold the water so when the warm air blows over the filter, it puts moisture into the air. If the cups on the filter are clogged with mineral deposits, then the filter won't hold water. You might have a new one on hand and compare the old & new to help decide when you need to change the filter.
