I have the same leak, I just ordered the service manual and watch your video to boost up my confidence. I am as nervous as you seemed on the video, thanks for encouraging others!
@@alainmaurice5383 I'm not 100% sure. In order of likelihood (i think) 1) I didn't torque the 4 head bolts evenly as I tightened them down. 2) the surface wasn't clean. 3) the torque spec in the manual isn't tight enough. 4) I lug the engine too much.
Hej thank you for taking the time to film this while being nervous because of the job you had to do! My gasket is leaking as well so your video will help a lot. I just hope I get the exhaust bolts loosened since they are pretty seized up.. Thanks again from .de
Great vid, love the humility too man. I'm getting ready to replace the whole bottom end on mine as I have a 98 with the non torque limiter that cracked the inner case. This video will help.
@@skridge I agree. That's why I bought a bottom end that was just stripped to the outer cases. Tranny, crank, and rod are still sealed up. But this video is going to help with the nerves, so thanks bud.
Great job. Loved your excitement when it started. Thanks for documenting this. I have some leakage from that area and after seeing this I am not sure I have the time to do this myself. But with seeing how long it seems this took I assume this won't be cheap at the shop either. Would be a good project to really understand the bike, but it seems like there are so many things that I can do wrong along the way.
Same thing, I bought my dr650 in April 2024, it's a 2002 with 3875 miles. It's like new. I have the same problem. I thought the oil was leaking through the clutch cover gasket, I changed it and during the road test my boot still had oil. I looked more closely and I saw oil squirting at the gasket at the base of the cylinder. I'm very happy to have found your video. I'm still scared to do the job myself. But I'll do it. Have you found any other problems due to the long time the bike has been parked? Thank you.

You've got this. I had to put another one on last month. I could dam near take it apart blindfolded. Only took 2 days.
@@skridge Why did you have to change it a second time?

Thanks for your answer
Very good video and narration. I was going to pay a shop to do it but I now think I'll do the job myself. Thanks.
Trust me... if I can do it. Anyone can. You got this.

Good luck. It's a piece of cake!

The thought of going into the bottom end scares the crap out of me! I'm sure when it's done, you'll look back and and say it wasn't bad at all.

Nicely done, the job and the video, informed and brief!
Thank you!
Great job! Thanks for uploading
Thank you
Outstanding job!
Thank you sir. Been a year, still running strong.

No one was more excited or surprised than me. Took about a week, working a few hours each day. Really taking my time. Thanks for the comments
Its a crazy time consuming job. Well done!
Thank you!

this leak doesn't seem like it worth changing the gasket
True, but It's a matter of preference. I want my 2 wheeled death machine in perfect condition before every ride. One of the few things I'm ocd about.
