Dude, that is SO 100% true!
I came to a 1 PM game from out of town where they lost to the Chargers. We were staying at the South Side Sheraton. Went to Station Square maybe an hour after the game was over, and my 3 friends and I were quite literally the only ones there. Like the whole place!

What he said about them protecting their players if they were drunk and needed a ride is true for everyone. My friend and I were obliterated on the south side one night and too drunk to even use the Uber app properly. A dude just playing the bongos just stopped what was making him some money just to give us a ride across town.

Willie Colon could have made more money playing elsewhere, but he left money on the table when a free agent to stay in Pittsburgh. And he wasn't the only one during those years. The Pittsburgh Steelers are considered the best workplace in the NFL by many players and their agents.

Truth, ask LeVeon Bell if he would do it differently now than when he held out. Mike Wallace wishes he stayed. Some guys even come back just because they hated it on other teams. Larry Foote, William Gay, Randle EL, Plaxico Burress, Bryant McFadden. Lawrence Timmons wanted to come back too. We wanted him back with us too, but he was still under contract with Miami. He went awol one week cause he hated the culture with the Dolphins, and he's from Florida. There's a culture about Steelers football, southwest PA football you won't get anywhere else. The best player in all of football at this present time is Aaron Donald, and he isn't a Steeler, but he has the key 🗝️ to the city here cause he's homegrown. Cam Heyward is treated like Gold around here cause he is our own. And he's one of the best Steelers to ever don a uniform. So it's not just Steelers we love our own round deaz parts 😆

@@michaellewis8467 letting Plax walk was a massive mistake. He was just heading into his prime but he did get a ring in NY v probably two he gets w the Steelers. Wallace and AR El were products of having an HOF QB. Their stats cratered once out of Pittsburgh. The Steelers weather you agree w their decisions are at least trying to win. And they win more than they lose most of the time. Are the lions, jets, commanders, giants, Texans, Jags really trying to win? Some franchises are just toxic like the raiders, bengals, browns, Vikings…it doesn’t matter who the coach or GM is. Don’t forget Harrison’s one year stint in Cincinnati. He came back and openly stated the bengals players don’t work hard or care about winning.

@@Biggdoom344 We didn't wanna let Plax go, but we only had enough $$ under the cap to keep him or Hines Ward. So, well, as hard of a decision as that was, the Steelers made the right one. But as history played out, they both got a ring out of the split. But we know Hines got 2 and a Superbowl MVP in the first one and won dancing with the stars. So I'd say Hines career had a few more bells and whistles. Plax had the unlucky decision of playing for the Jets after the Giants. Playing in NY is hard enough. But the Giants won it all. The Jets haven't been to the post season since he was there I think. And our other Superbowl winning receiver Santonio Holmes. Then we (Steelers) had pleasure of knocking them out of the playoffs lol.

What is even crazier is that when leave the area and go on vacation the fans take their Steeler identity with them. The most amazing part of being an actual Pittsburgh Steeler is that your occupation plays a HUGE role in the psychological health of an entire large city. The fans there are just nuts. Sure in a city the size of New York you'll have more clubs at night and more restaurants and such, but who cares if a city has 500 good restaurants or 50 good restaurants? Isn't 50 adequate? Or 100 good clubs vs. 10 good clubs? Who cares? What's way cooler to a player is when you GO IN those restaurants or clubs in Pittsburgh, 90% of the people in there recognize you and treat you like royalty. You're part of THEE BIG DEAL in town. That creates an amazing atmosphere for a player.

Out of respect for the all time greats and future great Steelers I make it a point of pride to not be fickle to the players that come to play for Pittsburgh. They always get the benefit of the doubt because the culture is focused on winning . This is why they never sink too low recently.

No! Steelers fans do not show cultish behavior. A cult has a leader. Every cult member will follow the leader and believe everything that leaders says. Who is the leader? Steeler football is more like a religion. Pure Faith we can win.

I've been a Steelers fan since around 1971. Pittsburgh started going through some dark times, with the death of Pittsburgh's steel industry accelerating right around the time the Steelers became the dominant team in the history of professional football.
People were looking for something to hang onto, and the Pirates, as good as they were back then, weren't enough.
Willie is right, Steeler nation is a bit of a cult. People need something to hang onto, and the city doesn't have much going for it other than the Steelers. Exactly as he described it, you go shopping around Saturday or Sunday at waterworks, or wherever, and everyone seems to be draped in Black and Gold. In a way, it's kind of sad. After all, as much as we may love them, it's just a football team.

But cheering for two teams in the same division is as common as liberals and conservatives agreeing on anything these days. It’s just how NFL fandom works.

Weird situation with the Steelers coaching and ownership.... they have thrown Mason R. under the bus.. even though he has been solid.. In my opinion, I strongly think it's personal. I hope Mason finds a good team and leaves this BS behind.
When Kenny won the game late against the Seahawks he was the second coming.....when Mason did the same thing against the jags (with more pinpoint passes) Tomlin called Mason a back up at best playing against 3rd teamers. I'll be rooting against this franchise all season. If they win 7 games I'll be shocked. Should've drafted 1st, 2nd and 3rd round O-line help....then grabbed Malik. Mason would've looked like a young Ben with a strong O-line and Malik will be one of the best ever. Done with this backward organization

People forget 2019. The Steelers aren't going to cut or trade an established and effective Mason Rudolph for just a late round pick. At least not until Kenny takes the next step and Mitch doesn't blow his chance with INTs. After Ben, with zero established starter QB, the Steelers are keeping three.
