Geez I can't stand the reverse links and bags. That type of setup puts way more stress on the frame than a standard forward axle link and bag setup.
Exactly ! Previous owner had a really bad concept of suspension geometry
But that stock notched frame with no reinforcement plates was just a no brainer that it was going to fail.
Exactly ! And it was unnecessarily huge ! Good thing I found it when I did I can’t imagine how that would’ve held up in an accident
You welds look great and the truck is gonna be so sick just some advice you could go hotter on the welds don’t be scared to turn it up a bit
Personally I would just swap frames, you can get a full frame at the junkyard for $199 but good work.
Might've been easier just to do that !
@@Danny_rods Either way you did it justice, looks really good. Had the frame on my swb done by the steering gearbox wish I would've just swapped it out. The cross member that holds the proportion valve is twisting and cracked.
@@dimefever1006 thank you ! That's the thing about these frames , they're so thin and flimsy most of them out there are bent , cracked , or both !
@@Danny_rods I made a cardboard template of the steering box portion of the frame that exceeded the length of the mounting holes for the box about 2" then had a local company water-jet me the template out of 1/4" plate, then remounted the steering box sandwiching the plate in-between the two, then welded in the plate. The reason I welded it last is because I wanted to make sure everything was still going to work properly as far as steering geometry/clearancing issues etc... That was about 15 years ago and she's still going strong. The craziest part is the overall improvement it made, I never expected for it to handle better and drive better than it ever did!
