Boom! Dollarydooz checking in.
This ship feels like a "spam fire until its dead" ship
USS atlanta
Definitely a one trick pony.
The whole time I was watching the ship break the waves in this video, I couldn't help but cringe at how high in the water that thing is. So much of the hull below the waterline is visible in WT.
I was aboard USS Joseph Strauss DDG-16 for a deployment in 1972. Strauss had firing missions off the coast of North Vietnam with Newport News and the light cruisers Oklahoma City and Providence. This was after the Easter Offensive that started on March 31. On October 1, 1972, I was waiting for a flight from Hickam Air Base in Honolulu to Clark Air Base in PI to transfer to USS John S. McCain. We were watching the news on a local station when they mentioned that USS Newport News had a gun turret explosion and that 20 sailors were killed. I teared up and said a silent prayer for those men. A few days later I was aboard McCain off the coast of North Vietnam for the last three months of her deployment.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us and for your service.
I read through the full incident report and witness statements
It sounds like a truly terrible thing.
Fair winds o7
I love this ship! It's everything I thought it would be.
Some fine camera work as always, and a well-rounded review. I enjoyed the history part at the start. Also, thanks for the link o7
I'm not much of a statistician, I feel like you guys deserve more attention for the thorough analysis you do. o7
Glad you liked it
Another great edit. Been playing the V-990 at 2.7, That boat is insane!
I've played a bunch of games in the v-990 this week. It perfectly fits my playstyle 🦈
@@CmdrTyrael exactly. The ambush and run gameplay is nice. The Mines are insane!!
i was on that ship for west pac in the late 60's t-2 powder handling rm was my station. never knew all that stuff though thanks. at first i didn't know this was about a game and i was wondering why the deck was in such good shape. the powder cans coming out around the turrets would tear the sh*t out of the deck, even after we had 3/4 plywood screwed down to boot! and after we shot a bit we would have to go up and clear them off. we took them up to them up to the o-one level amidships and tied them off. when we went back to subic we would turn them in for reloading. we traded some in hong kong for some new teak once though. those can's were about 80 lbs empty, and sooty as hell. would screw up our shirts carrying them
Thanks very much for your service and your story.
I love hearing about these ships from those guys who lived aboard! 🫡
This was the ship my grandfather was deployed on in Vietnam. He told me about firing the big guns. And told me he’s lucky he never saw the men he killed. I miss my grandfather and was hoping to see if there was anything here about what happened during his time in vietnam.
My thanks to your grandfather for his service in Vietnam.
Newport news did suffer a horrible accident when the turret was damaged during a misfire. The written account of that story is harrowing and raw.
Anyone that served on her is a hero in my book. If he is still with us, let him know that for me 🫡
@@CmdrTyrael sadly he passed away of melanoma cancer in 2016. But it means the world to me. Thank you.
Hey hey hope you’re doing well, nice video! Very nicely put together and narrated 😊👍🏻

Hi mate can confirm I am the legit creator and voice over artist for my content o7
Thanks for confirming.
@@CmdrTyrael Awesome! ☕️😊
in-game it has some anti-frag i think
Just the main deck armor. Compared to the other US cruisers, she has next to none.
@@CmdrTyrael She should have an anti-frag hull, as well as the Fargo and Cleveland classes. However, previous vehicle additions and forum discussions indicate that Gaijin does little research on the armor scheme before implementing a vehicle and requires high standards to change it. All US cruisers of this era were being built with copious amounts of STS which in-game is supposed to be classified as anti-frag or Class B RHA depending on thickness.
In real life, the. NN did not carry the standard shell mentioned here but carried only the HE and the AP shells. Its armor was thick enough for any other adversary in the world at the time she was built as 16” battleships were discontinued after WWII and the only ones ever recommissioned were in the US. She had far greater fire power than the Helena as she did have the same rounds per minute but throwing shells twice as heavy and further. Her preferred range to engage was about 25,000 yards while battleships preferred engagement range was closer to 12,000 yards.
That’s from a real life NN gunner- not a video game.
Thanks very much for your service and your input. Real experience is always welcome here o7
I wonder how broken the 6 second reload would be
I have the max reload. It's pretty powerful
@@CmdrTyrael I can't wait for the tech tree version to come out
Gaijin is becoming lazier with making DM. Ships that are released later are much more fragile than those released prior. I Alt F4'd after suffering 60% crew loss from Helena's 2, 6 inch shell. I'm not saying she's bad. She can shred cruiser forces as long as you manage to keep her safe
100%. It should have an anti-frag hull and sit significantly lower in the water. Placement of crew compartments is entirely arbitrary on all ships and is done so to reduce the time-to-kill.
I feel that 🤣 my very first game I got one tapped by a Helena at 9km.......
I was like "so it begins...." 🤣
@@TheAnnoyingF2P It's funny how many times the crew compartements of various ships are just randomly placed outside the armor belt, because obviously in a real battle all the sailors would have grouped in that one useless room just outside the protection and play cards while their ship was sinking.
I'm not asking for 100% realism but at least putting your healt beneath the armor seems necessary to me
@@tommasogubiani3768 They've improved it a bit recently. I don't know where they are now, but originally on USS Arizona the firefighter's restroom made up a significant portion of one of the crew compartments.
@@TheAnnoyingF2P yes but there's still a lot to do for example in the Abruzzi the italian 5.7 cruisers the crew compartments are literally the armor belt(don't ask how). On the zara 50% of your crew is just under the funnel coocking murshmallows
