- Andrea Marshall talks to us about discovering a second species of giant manta ray. Working from a remote part of Mozambique for the last five years she has come across a discovery which changes the way we see giant mantas completely.
This is amazing watching videos like this give me the motivation to keep going with my studies, no matter how hard it gets, hoping that one day I'll be doing that :)
The Manta Rays are the most Beautiful creatures I have ever seen. It is breathtaking to watch them fly the way they do.
Andrea is always great to watch. Nice job.
Excellent lady scientist! Great mentality! She's a keeper!
This must be a mindblowing heartdiving experience. Aaw. Wonderful!
I saw a giant black manta ray with white polka dots. it was twice my size, it was in the deep blue waters of keys in florida, scary, but now i know there not like sharks.
AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!....and the girl talking is pretty good looking too lol. I love how the manta that swam around her in the beginning (which was epic btw) had two fish symmetrically attached to it like earrings or accessories or something.
“aWeStRuCk bY iTs FoRm aNd FuNcTiOn” lady it’s just a manta ray. Calm down.
95% of the ocean is still undiscovered to this very day i wanna do something like that too discover new species and such but that'll happen after i go United States Marine Corp :D
watching any video of manta-ray's makes me cry, but the discovery of a second species......, my dream is to be able to study these creatures..
You will, just keep studying bit by bit. I always wanted to be a marine biologist but wasn't able to pursue it. Now I just want every girl who loves to ocean to stick to it and not give up. You'll get there and good for you!
Not sure if I'd be scared or awe struck by beauty. Probably both if I saw one while diving.
manta rays or sting rays look like the giant underwater version of bats..
What a beautiful animal!
They're freaking huge
She has pretty eyes and a nice smile...
awesome footage!!!
If they are still just discovering and learning about this Giant Manta Ray, think of how much we still have no idea is even out there.
OMG!!! I've seen this show already and I still want to ride a giant manta.
Beautiful :D
Ogromna i veličanstvena životinja ali zna bit i opasna kad joj dojadite.
@clairevoyant m - That's a spotted eagle ray. :)
I thought if you touch a manta ray they loose their protective mucus membrane (i've been looking into this species online)
This is amazing.
Well, I don't think this is a good example of our lack of knowledge. People have probably been seeing these for years without noticing the differences between the two types of manta rays. That said, there are probably tons of species in deep water that we've never see.
Wow, that was beautiful. I've filmed these wonderful creatures in Manihi, Fr. Polynesia. There's nothing like it!
no, i dont think Mantas are poisonous.
if u look at a sting ray and at a Manta, there is a difference in their tails.
Sting rays have this barb at the end of their tail wich is the thing that stings you (mostly if u step on it beacuse the tail can only go above its back) and Mantas dont have that barb on the end of their tails.
but I could be wrong, there might be a few species of manta that have poisonous barbs on their tails.
There cool looking animals but they also seem frightening
Are we not supposed to be touching the Mantas??
@handom85 I'm in complete agreement. And not just those willing to be good to and love the earth, but fellow humans as well. That would be a nice world.
Wonderful discovery! Gorgeous biologist!
This is just WOW. We really are still innocent about what's under the sea.
They are like underwater eagles
THEY DONT STING
This woman, into mantarays AND hot - Faith in humanity restored, partly atleast
Mantas are beaaaaautiful (:
this would be better if they just showed us ray from AH
Thats a big ass manta ray
Beautiful:)
I want to be just like Andrea Marshall when I grow up! ;A; *sob*
Im glad i helped you all :D!
this si amazing video
wouldn't u want to do that atleast once...just swim w the gentle giants
Beautiful animals,I wondered how wide it is?
a manta ate my family! i bet they aint so cute now! haha
why is she touching the manta? doesn't that remove mucus that coats the body to prevent the manta ray against marine infection?
As cool as it is to see new creatures. Sometimes humans needs to leave certain things alone
*need
wow you saw the ceature that all the time swimming nearby the two fishes?
They are Truely amazing animals Though am i right Their tails don't have stingers like their cousin the Sting ray!
I love these knights of the sea
how do you find a manta? go to the middle of the ocean, go down 50ft and wait?
Space ship shaped like a mantaray
There is something i find memorizing about this animal. It's hypnotic.
why did it have 2 fish under it?
She didnt talk once about their dangerous stingers....
sooo beutiful!
She can study my giant manta ray anyday
its settled, im going diving
Can I use some clips from this video for my next video? Please! :)
To be honest they are a type of manta
The research work is good, but if you want to protect the species why do you always need to touch the manta rays
Great
i saw this thing, its GIANT
Are they deadly??
SPECIE VERY BEAUTIFUL MANTA RAY... (ESPÉCIE MUITO LINDA De MANTA RAIA...) WONDERFUL...(MARAVILHOSA)
Do those sting?
Music is too high for you to be able to watch this enjoyable and hear what they're saying.

so beautiful :o
How do I get her?
I wish they could fly out of water and they were like horses and i could ride it to work. Not saying i ride a horse to work just saying i want to ride a manta ray.
lets call it tony

They're just oh so beautiful and wonderful a lot a lot to be around ah! Ooh lah! I love it ah!🌊🌅🏞️
Careful you don't get Irwin'd.
steve Irwin disliked this....twice.
id be fucken scaren if tht thing came up to me...anotjer reason why i will never go in the ocean
a beautiful video, too bad you had to ruin it by touching the Manta...
I would have loved the video if the diver had only refrained from touching the animal. You are definitely sending the wrong message to all other divers. Also, whether or not the manta "enjoyed" the interaction, it was changing its behavior. What happens next time when it happily swims up to a spear fisherman, hoping for a gentle caress or to play in the bubbles? THINK!!!!!
I want a giant, flexible manta ray glider to throw off a high building, just to confuse people.
i touch one in seaworld there like slimy
lady i no want to see our face. talk while the manta footage is playing >.>
deadmau5????
Giant Manta Rays Nope.Devil rays they have "horns" at the end of there mouths the grow up to Twenty feet long and sweep small fish into there mouths with their "horns"
@rajngla77vol2 No he wouldnt, he loved animals.
not sure I follow ......
I like it, but ti's not our job to manage nature.
Or nat geo photographer :)
SEA TERRORSAURS* of course, it has to be :D
my father in law was fishing in florida and had one of those on his line, he wanted his hook back so badly he made 3 guys gaff the thing on the front of the boat so he could take the hook out
