      Yes. But not digging the new 30 minute format. Seems mailed in. For such a huge music lover, was shocked to see Conan let the band go. Of anything, he should have let Andy go. With such limited time, Andy doesn't add much anymore. Conan could have used the band for skits. Now no musical bands, no stand up comedians. I wonder how many of his staff he let go.

      He was legally obligated to avoid saying anything specifically negative about anyone. That's why he couldn't answer if he thought Jay acted honorably and said "i can only say how I would have done it, and I would have done it differently."
      He had to frame it from his perspective, he's allowed to say how HE would have handled it but not criticize his former employer or Jay. Sounds like those were the terms of the agreement

    • @gallery7596

      @@kevinr.3542 Conan resigned, though. He wasn't going to be an employee of NBC anymore, so it's tough to see what power NBC would've had to control what he said about Jay once he left the network. The buy-out clause (which he insisted on) had been written into his contract before he even became host of "The Tonight Show", so it's unlikely that would've been denied him because he had something unfavourable to say. The only clear power *NBC* had was to prevent Conan from appearing on television for a specific amount of time after he left, and this interview actually marked the end of that period. But I do think he's at liberty to say what he wants about the debacle, as he did contribute to Bill Carter's book about that time.

Jay kept it to himself for 5 years how hurt he was when *NBC* informed him he was out at the end of his contract . Then they talked Jay into trying prime time and that was a terrible mistake. The real architect of that entire mess was Jeff Zucker, and yet it seems like most of Conan's fans just want to blame Jay for everything- and excuse Conan for his own questionable decisions. What I notice about many of Conan's fans is they seem to spend about as much time loathing Jay Leno as they do talking about how great Conan is. *NBC* was certainly most at fault for what happened, but Team CoCo should be aware by now that Conan made at least as many bad decisions during that period as Jay Leno ever did.

    • @gallery7596
      @gallery7596 Před 5 lety +3

      Well, the biggest mistake Jay Leno ever made was turning down CBS to wait for "The Tonight Show". "Late Show" would've been a better gig because (as we saw when Dave took it instead) you could host for over 2 decades, get paid more, shrug off a big scandal, and even outlast your chief rival despite for years consistently bringing in second place ratings. Jay could've had that show. But, he just couldn't resist the chance to host "The Tonight Show", where he was paid less, and got fired twice by his good buddies in *NBC* management even though he was keeping "TTS" popular and profitable. Now Conan, too could've had a show of his own at ABC, or especially FOX where they were offering him more than twice what *NBC* wanted to give him to wait 5 years for "TTS." And Conan saw how *NBC* wavered in their support for Jay when Dave started talking about leaving. But for some reason, Conan didn't think it could happen to him, too. That was a pretty big mistake on his part.

      @@elsavillarreal7952 Yes, I think Conan is a good guy, too and he did a great job taking over "Late Night" when Letterman left. I just think he made a big mistake saying yes to *NBC's* crazy plan to give him "The Tonight Show" *in five years* when he could've had a show a lot sooner elsewhere. Conan was also very resistant to *NBC's* requests, and these were the people who fired their top rated late night host so he could have "The Tonight Show." I think a lot of Conan fans are unaware of this.

I just honestly think he’s not bitter about it because he even said himself it brought him to a better position now and has talked a lot about not being bitter and cynical etc. Maybe he’s not allowed but I don’t even think he’s really that angry about it anymore anyway but fans still are which I get.

    As much as I felt Conan got screwed by NBC, I'd like to think in the long run --- it worked out for him. First of all, he probably could've called it a day with that massive payday he got from the settlement but as of now, has been with TBS for a decade. I always felt The Tonight Show had a slightly older demo, while Conan's style of humor has always appealed to a more younger audience. If you watch his current show and look at the crowd, clearly a lot of younger folks.

I know it would have broken him at that time...but creating hardcore fans on purely on your own skills and not under a brand name....well sounds to me like a winner!! I think this was a blessing in disguise on the cost of revealing selfish people... Conan has everything what a person could imagine, such good looks, talent, honesty hard work...and I can understand how he laughs at times or converts the sad conversation into jokes, just to pass on the pain...but that's what a comedian is right...😇😇💖🤗 We love you Conan!! He is so funny, and good at his job, that you will watch him interview celebrities you have never heard of or are not a fan of.
