This is the traditional tempo. I heard my own relatives in Ireland 50+ years ago sing this song. The songs were sung in local pubs and homes without loud-speakers or electric guitars. Unfortunately with the rise of the Internet and TV people no longer gather at local pubs to visit with their neighbors and sing a few tunes.

@Paradoxmagic Different interpretations and that is what makes this tune so brilliant! This song can stand on its own without the need of a particular style or artist association with it. The song just is and that is ll it needs to be... Actually this song when it came out was probably song in many different ways and not just in this style. This arrangement certainly has a modern pop feel to it as well as an influence of the American folk scene. Good stuff!

My 7 year old daughters just loves this version of "The Star of the County Down. I play it for her when she gets up and before she goes to sleep. I have tried to find and song by the Barley Bree, but it is either extremely expensive or it just does not exist. Is there a place where we can buy this CD? for a reasonable price?
I agree, well put. Tom Sweeney is a Northerner (from Omagh) so technically is putting on a slightly Southern accent here. But who cares, it's just for effect.
I like that they value the beauty of young women so highly. There are some really hotties among the Irish, and Scotts, who are far fare better than those among the English. The French have the best-looking women in the world.

Cant say any of the versions of this on here are the real deal but this is defo better than the celts version. But there all tryin to put it on too much, its not natural enough.

theyre not trying to be the best singers, theyre just singing it the way it would have been sung 100 years ago in a pub in ireland, and that is the way they sing on shows like this, to represent the singers of the past, in the way these songs were sung.

So many ways to do this song, from a slow waltz to an uptempo rouser. I think I like this kind of mid-tempo version best. Nicely done!

The Orthodox Celts are a Folk-Rock group. This is the traditional ethnic-folk style. Either way, it's a really nice tune. :-)

yeah orthodox version is a bit better imo
