This is the traditional tempo. I heard my own relatives in Ireland 50+ years ago sing this song.
The songs were sung in local pubs and homes without loud-speakers or electric guitars. Unfortunately with the rise of the Internet and TV people no longer gather at local pubs to visit with their neighbors and sing a few tunes.

So many ways to do this song, from a slow waltz to an uptempo rouser. I think I like this kind of mid-tempo version best. Nicely done!

Different interpretations and that is what makes this tune so brilliant! This song can stand on its own without the need of a particular style or artist association with it. The song just is and that is ll it needs to be... Actually this song when it came out was probably song in many different ways and not just in this style. This arrangement certainly has a modern pop feel to it as well as an influence of the American folk scene. Good stuff!

Star of the County Down Lyrics
    [Verse 1]
Near Banbridge town, in the County Down
    On the mornin' in July
Down a boreen green came a sweet colleen
And she smiled as she passed me by
she looked so neet from her two bare feet
To the sheen of her nut-brown hair
Such a coaxing elf, I had to shake myself
To make sure I was really there
    [Chorus]
From the Bantry Bay up to the Derry Quay
And from Galway to Dublin town
No maid I’ve seen like the Brown Colleen
That I met in the County Down
    [Verse 2]
As she onward sped while I shook my head
And I sat with a feeling rare
    I said, said I, to a passer-by
"Who's the maid with the nut-brown hair?"
he looked at me, and he said, said he
"That's the gem of Ireland’s crown
Young Rosie McCann from the banks of the Bann
She's the star of the County Down."
    [Chorus]
from Bantry Bay up to the Derry Quay
And from Galway to Dublin town
No maid I've seen like the brown colleen
That I met in the County Down
    [Verse 3]
At the harvest fair she'll be surely there
So I dress in my Sunday clothes
With my shoes shone bright and my hat cocked right
For a smile from the nut-brown rose
No pipe I'll smoke, no horse I'll yoke
Till my plough with the rust turns brown
and a smiling bride by my own fireside
sits the star of the county down
    [Chorus]
from Bantry Bay up to the Derry Quay
And from Galway to Dublin town
No maid I've seen like the brown colleen
That I met in the County Down
from Bantry Bay up to the Derry Quay
And from Galway to Dublin town
No maid I've seen like the brown colleen
That I met in the County Down
