ammonia or mean grean from dollar general does the same thing as tsp and costs about 1/4. aren't as casutic if you get them on you, unless you have sensiive skin. But like with the tsp PLEASE Pleasee please openwindows and have a fan going. these things wreak havoc if you don't have a well ventalated area. just some advise from a smoker, who has to clean her walls frequently.
The last time I was in Australia, I wasn't even supposed to be there. I was supposed to go up thru Hong Kong and the Fullofpains (Philippines), then to PM New Guinea. Brisbane was okay. The lady at the airport said my luggage got there with me, but when we got to Port Moresby, it didn't get there. Later it was found in Singapore. This American was working in the Himalayas, at Bagram. To help with the GWOT.
If anyone is doing this in their bathroom, I recommend running the shower for like a half hour on super hot. This will loosen up the tar and it will actually be 20 times easier to wipe off. once you have this layer of steam on your walls, literally any soap will work. Don’t waste your money going to the hardware store and buying this TSP super Duper magic cleaner lol. Yes the Magic eraser that he showed for the stage one cleaning works wonders and I am an auto detailer and the magic eraser is a much needed tool for my job.
I think I'll stick with the Super-Duper Magic cleaner. I don't run the shower that long or hot, at home or up in the Himalayas. Or anywhere in-between there or America.
Some painters advocate oder blocking primer and not bothering cleaning really bad cig walls. If there real bad you will never get it off completely. I cleaned one wall five times with scrubing bubbles. The crap would keep coming off even though it looked clean.. So primer is a must. Walls that are not to bad you may get away with a good couple coats of paint. But I swear if I stare at the wall I can see yellow coming through. But during cleaning nothing comes off. I always worry it will come back. Then it will be two coats of primer. I would have to hire a professional who has the proper protection. Good luck finding a painter who wants to primer with a oil or shalec base.
I found when cleaning my Fathers home, that watered down ammonia worked best at cutting the nicotine, even on the metal trim of sliding glass windows. they went from gold to silver. Im going back to my home I rented to a heavy smoker :( I will use water/vinegar afterwards. Try it on a smokers walls.
Agreed. TSP is very effective cleanig surface prep particularly in older homes with concerns of lead paints TSP chemically bounds with free lead forming lead sulfate, but I aways wiped down the TSP with a damp mop rinsed in plain hot water to remove the disolved residues from the surface to be painted.

It doesn't make you itch. It dies dry out your skin though lol. I was shedding like a snake. But I used glycerin and water to bring the of my skin back on my hands. It cleaned my walls though. They white as snow.
It looks like you have quite high quality (wipeable) paint on your walls. What if you need to clean after someone who smoked in a room with emulsion (or I think often referred to as flat) paint? Paint that isn't wipeable and would come off when wet. Same process and just have to take some of the paint off and re-paint it? Maybe the dry mop only with a white vinegar spray? Or what about a smoke sponge? Any help to do a quick and effective job with the least amount of damage would be much appreciated.

You should actually work your way from the bottom to the top. Because if you start at the top and you have any runs you will get a streak that will be very difficult to get off. So go from bottom to top

Welcome to the channel Natalie! That's hard to say. You would just have to test in inconspicuous areas until you find something that works. If you can't use Dawn dish soap though, you probably won't be able to use anything. Dawn is a very mild and that's normally what I start with. Sorry about that!

It makes no sense to use the TSP on nicotine smoked walls if you're gonna to have to paint the walls after using the TSP. It makes sense to paint the walls to begin with.
I never thought about dusting my walls but it makes sense to do it. I do keep the cobwebs knocked down. I didn't know it was a law here in Virginia that apartments have to be painted before it can be rented again and the walls and ceilings really need a paint job. Now the owner is telling me it's on his to-do-listen. We really needed a place and were desperate.
@@nickhill8612 Yes when we go to a clients house and the walls are really dusty we actually vacuum them with our backpack vacuum. It is a wand with a brush attachment on the end. Works like a charm!

The best cleaning product ever? TSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome for cleaning your vertical blinds. Even 20 some slates look 18 years younger. Aluminum windows sills/framing comes out like new. DON'T USE A MOP ON YOUR WALLS. TSP/Water can run down the wall and remove grime unevenly!

Only thing that will work is that TSP. You will need to file a complaint with your landlord and have them clean it and repaint it for you. Especially if it is causing any type of health issues.

Just be sure to test it first in a small area. And when all else fails you may just go around and do a little touch up painting to remove stains.

Apply tsp mixed with water. Then after rinse througly with warm water only

A small pressure steam unit works great on grease. Can buy them most anywhere.
I used tsp. ,never ever again,,,well ventilation,,did that,,fans also.,well the vapors put me in the hospital for 2 days,,,

Yes it is awesome!! Although, it's only good for walls depending on the type of paint you have. Meaning, it's so good it will even remove paint lol!!

If you feel tar with you hand when you rub it or smell it on the wall with you nose it may be an option. I would always try level 1 first.
