  • My first on the fly tear down ever, it didnt go well but this video has everything you need to tear down your ricoh theta V in order to replace the lens and camera assembely on both sides.
this video was recorded in chunks and stitched together shot on a huawei p20 pro resting on top of a pint glass ( not professional standard) - after the front was off i started to remove the side but i did this wrong so please dont copy this as you will probably just waste your time. and follow the guidelines set out early in the video - feel free to skip, ive tried to lay out the video logically
there is a quick fix for lens only damage on the no shutter button side on this link below from 360 big sky media which in my opinion is a much better constucted video than my own, but doesnt go as far as i did for both lenses, thank you Nic great input.

Thank you! A strong wind took down my camera with the tripod ... The support gave me a very expensive repair estimate (change main board), so I decided to buy a new camera. However, when I opened myself the old one, I fixed the lateral metallic stripe, and now the camera works perfectly. Your video helped me - Thanks again!

Another thank message, now from Brazil. I put my camera on top of a table, using a tripod, and, due to wind, it felt down. A small part close the the lens broke apart, top was separated and one side also split apart. Due to your video I could connect microphone connectors. I knew something needed to be connected, which would not happen if I did not see your video. Thanks a lot.

Thanks this video helped my repair ricoh theta s, similar situation after owning for a few hours I dropped it and chipped the lens, got in touch with ricoh who wanted nearly the same price to buy a new one to repair it. After searching around I found a water damaged one on ebay for £20, cleaned and dried out the lens and did a straight swap of the lenses, had to swap over the ribbon cables and hey presto I have a ricoh that works again!

Hey Emily. I am really struggling to reconnect those ribbon cables on my Theta V. I want to avoid opening up the entire Theta V to reconnect the ribbon cables. So was wondering what you meant by a "straight swap" of the ribbon cables? If it means you were able to just reconnect the ribbon cables without following the same steps demonstrated in this video, I am curious to learn how you achieved to do it? Any specific tools that were useful.
Very informative Video Sussex. Has helped many of us.

@@shazy361 hello, I was repairing ricoh theta s which is older than the theta V however the process looked largely the same. I chipped my lens and bought a water damaged one on ebay. I opened up the one from ebay to take out the lens, I couldn't use the ribbon cables as they were slightly corroded so cleaned the contacts on the camera with isopropyl alcohol. I opened up my broken camera and removed the lens from the camera by unhooking the ribbon cable from the lens but the other end of the ribbon camera was still attached and buried inside the camera. So I didnt remove the ribbon cable from the original, just swapped the lenses, hope that makes sense. Good luck with your camera.

Thanks for the video. I just replaced my lenses from one Theta to the other and it worked. I didnt find it necessary to take out the battery or a few other components like you did. I couldn,t have done this without watching your video. You saved me a bunch of money!!!!

Many thanks for this! Theta V repaired with SC2 donor lens from ebay, (original lens badly scuffed/scratched after falling on the floor of a bumper car). I watched the whole video once before starting the repair, then stepped through it step by step and the repair was straightforward. Thanks again!

Thank you, your video helped me repair my camera. It was only a small issue, but seeing how to start on opening, and where to put a spudger really helped.

Recently bought a damaged SC camera of eBay after seeing this video, and got it fixed. The camera would switch on make three beeps and the power light turned red. The camera had fallen over and burst open. The previous owner tried to close it up but managed to damage the metal strip along the side of the unit, so it was causing a short. Opening the camera revealed the problem. Not impressed with the quality of the camera though too much chromatic aberration that is hard to get rid of even in Light Room. What is the quality of the V does it also suffer the same as the SC. Many thanks for sharing.

Glad you got it working, yeah sadly the V is much the same for CA as the sc and TBH even the Z1 suffers but its correctable in LR and non exisitant when shooting DFE

Just out of interest, did you come across the memory slot location? Is it possible to remove it in the Theta V and put a larger memory card in there as the standard card is only a 16Gb I believe? I've also seen a different comment on a different video that it is an SSD not a physical card so this would render a memory upgrade impossible.

It's sad and annoying that you the manufacturers have no proper plans for repairs... You offer no parts for replacement. What a bad way to treat your customers! Theta must sit up.

My Theta V fell over and opened partially. I taped it together as close as possible, but it needs work to fix it correctly. Are you willing to repair mine? I'm located in the US. The camera still works, but looks horrible. I have ordered a Theta Z1, but they are all on backorder. This should be an EZ fix for you.
