In this video I visit the historic wool town of Painswick known to many as the 'Queen Of The Cotswolds'.
Its famous for its Church and the alleged 99 Yew Trees that grow in the Churchyard.
The local legend is that only 99 Yew trees will ever grow in the churchyard and if another tree was planted the Devil would pay a visit and pull the tree out of the ground!
Painswick has the oldest building in England to house a Post Office built in 1478 and the world famous Rococo Gardens is close by.
It’s the midway point on the Cotswold Way and at one time was the largest manufacturer of pins in the world!
At one point in the 18th century Painswick was the largest manufacturer of pins in the world.
St Mary's Church originally Norman built around 1040 AD was extended in 1480. The Church tower is 53 metres high and houses 14 bells. It was struck by lightening in 1883 which brought down about a third of the steeple.
The Church is also famous for the Clypping Ceremony held every September. This ancient religious ceremony has nothing to do with trees but an event where locals form a ring around the church in celebration. During the ceremony is the eating of 'Dog Pie' which is not made from dog meat but a custom based upon plum pie baked with a porcelain china dog.

I love these structures! The craftsmanship so amazing. The countryside is lovely too. I would feel so at home in this type of environment. I am often amazed at what the companies built for the benefit of their workers. Nice historical explanations, thank you. Can easily see why having a smaller car makes getting around more sensible. You certainly lucked out with the weather! Thanks so much. Happy Easter
