  • The Traxxas BL-2s Brushless motor is now legal for Mudboss racing and it is replacing the 12T Titan motor in the Salvas Mudboss 12T Sportsman class.
    The new Traxxas brushless motor is a little slower than the 12T brushed motor but it should last a lot longer and save Mudboss racers money in the long run.

    Thank you so much for this video. I shared it with my club here in South FL and we have made the decision to make the switch in the Mudboss Class. The guys at the front essentially buy new 12t motors all the time. Hard to compete for the podium if you don't. This system scraps all that and puts it more on the driver. Thank you again for this video, especially the hard data you collected. David Peek built my Mudboss and it got me on the podium quicker than I ever could have on my own.

    I think if you were able to do this kind of test with a larger number of motors of each variant, you will see that the brushless motors are more consistent. Given the added benefit that you will only have to replace the brushless motor when the bearings wear out, it brings the costs way down. I don't think you will see people buying 20 brushless motors to find 2 good ones.

      I feel the BL-2s brushless is very consistent. That's why I also feel it's going to be to hard for tracks to mix them together because there's to much difference right now with 12T brush motors

    I would like to see a half dozen or so of those brushless motors tested on a dyno. I would like to know how consistent the performance is in them. Good testing video. Thank you Mark and Dave. Can't wait to race with you guys again.

    Thank you for doing this kind of testing. I think one thing that helps the 12Ts in the corner is that the brushed motor have a bit of drag brake when off throttle where a brushed motor does not.

      @@OvalRC be interesting to see what other applications it’s going to be good for, be fun to almost put it in the new gorgon and do a new 2wd monster truck class, not to mention it will be good way to start kids and it would drop entry by good little chunk, instead of having to drop 600-1000+ to compete, could massively increase interest, i don’t even want to admit what I have in mine, especially my minis, I went all out when the minis went crazy at first and I built two

    So the normal deal, brushless more torque can run more gear faster lap times than 12t. This system may be closer to BIG BLOCK / 13.5 KV. Brushed 12T comparable to brushless with 3 teeth on brushless, just drop off of brushed motor is more? So a 22 on the BL2S would be proper is what I get from this test session. Lastly, agreed mixing the brushless / brushed motors together doesn’t seem sound, Sportsman - brushed, BL2S small block, 13.5 Big Block. Breaking in motors not sure why it has been a huge issue as it has always been part of brushed racing to include slot car racing. Great video thank you gentlemen.

    Интересно как этот мотор поведёт себя в условиях off-road, когда в него будут лететь песок, камни и прочий мусор. Будут ли они оставаться там и изнашивать его или нет?

    I’d like to see the two motors run with the same gearing for 50 laps each with a full battery for each. Then see the lap times on the last 5 laps and ending battery voltages and mah used. I think where the brushless will shine is at the end of a race. It’s not as though the brushless system is expensive. Just convert them all. Leaving the 12T as a beginner class still leaves beginners vulnerable to people selling them motors run in a jar of water for nearly the price of the brushless system.

    • @OvalRC
      @OvalRC  Před 6 měsíci

      The test was done with with a full battery each time, same gearing and well over 50 laps. We are still doing testing and the 12t is slightly faster .. but if tracks switch to a BL-2s class it doesn't matter if they are a 10th slower

    not a fair test test should be on just motor and trans in car not on a track track and traction ,tires ,traffic battery ,driving lines can vary from one motor test to next ,set up ect can sway times kinda need to do somthing like a dyno type set up on tires to see rpm on them as to gear choice ie: 19/90 20/90 22/90 ect .....at least this would pull variances out of the test and make a more uniform test i believe but this is just my opinion either way i think the bl2 gonna be a cost effective way to enjoy the mudboss alot more in future

    • @OvalRC
      @OvalRC  Před 7 měsíci +2

      "IF" tracks mix the new motor with the 12T they have to figure out how to match the new motor with current fast lap times. There is a big difference in 12t times.. and I believe a small difference in BL-2s times. You can take a stock 12T, break it in and improve the lap time.. Currently you can't improve on the BL-2s lap times without cheating as I see it. I'm sure that may change as time goes on. No need to dyno test unless you want to pick the best one from 20 new BL-2s motors. The test was with the same car, same battery, same tires, and one of the most consistent drivers in mudboss.. each test was about 30 laps.

    just hope the brushless motor can't be " tuned " like the brushed motor that is and was huge problem in the class the difference from one motor to a tuned motor is major.

    How much is this system, and will the 12t motors still be able to be run with these motors and remain competitive until they are phased out. Most tracks run different gears, but im curious as to why they are phasing out 12t. It is such a competitive and affordable class, and now they will just drive the cost up. Smh. If they aren't as fast, why change over. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you allow two different gear ratios in the same class, somebody will be like, "Oh, i thought, i could use this, or that so i could remain competitive." Now we have to deal with another jump in racing cost, which will probably wind up driving some people away from it or getting out of it altogether. Hopefully, this is not the case, and these motors do prove to be a great thing moving forward. Im anxious to see the outcome and timeliness of this new adventure. If anything maybe it make the playing field even more level for all racers not matter what skill level they are on. Only time will tell.

    • @OvalRC
      @OvalRC  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I couldn't agree more.. I mentioned at the end of the video that I don't feel tracks should mix the motors.. they should just start a BL-2s class and the 12T class will eventually fade away

      @OvalRC I'm fairly new to the 12t mudboss class and have a handful of new motors and race on a limited basis. However, I'm not really ready to just abandon the class just because of a new motor rule since ive finally found good speed and strong 12t motors, but at the same time still hope the 12t motors still thrive as long the supply of them continues to be available. As with everything else, when it's time to change, we will all have to make the change over to the BL2. Until that happens, I will continue to support the 12t end of the game.

    • @SimRacer101

      I suspect our track will just run 12T this winter carpet oval season and switch to the BL2 next year.

  • @mickeeand1969
    @mickeeand1969 Před 5 měsíci

    I think mudboss needs subclasses. Like 12t, stock bl2s, and maybe even 13t. Eventually 12t will be phased out due to motors wearing out and unavailability.
