    Ah, memories.
    Did my 03, CA LB7 (w/EGR) last summer...over many more days than I care to admit 😀. Had to smile when your guy lifted off the upper valve cover. As you know, many folks struggle mightily at that point and I found a large block of wood and a 5# hammer popped both sides off easily (strike down from the valley side).
    I also appreciate your insight on not trusting balance rates alone as a diagnostic tool. That Tech 2 check of injector on time told the whole story.
    Looks like you did a lot of work to isolate return lines from each bank for a return flow test. A trick I learned is to break into the main return line just ahead of the tank and check there. You will obviously not get bank-by-bank but the total should tell you what you need to know. I doubt you would ever recommend injector R&R on ones bank anyway.
    Another important point is in regard to those pesky, shallow head hex fasteners under the covers. Mine all came out fairly easily (also the many other hex on this job) because I was careful to deeply seat my tool into each upon removal. I bought new, deeper hex for under the VC's.
    On valve adjustment, think I may have gone a bit tighter than you did (10 thou?) which quieted the engine dramatically. I was amazed that clearances were all over the map (high). I snugged up the serp tensioner with a blocked breaker bar and used the alternator nut to turn the engine.
    As I rookie, I bagged and tagged all my bits and wrote a step-by-step log of everything I did, then went through in reverse when putting things back. Only a few leftover items (which didn't look too important 😀) and the beast fired on the third series of cranks and has been excellent for 2500 miles with no leaks.
    So, on that injector job I'm guessing what, 4-6 large?
    Best.

    That upper valve cover sure came off easy 😀. Instead of prying, I used a block of wood and a mallet to pop mine loose. Only one cup came out and I cleaned everything and reinstalled. Also, is Bosch even making “new” injectors. I contend all LB7 injectors are remans of the improved (better bodies and return seats) units. And hey, it says right on the FICM “don’t power wash”. Otherwise, excellent video 👍👍👍.

    I've got two questions. What did you put on the copper crush washers to keep them in place right before installing them? Second is could you give the specifics of installing the cups? what type of Loktite and where the loktite goes thank you for any input you could give,

    • @chris20howard81
      @chris20howard81 Před 4 lety +1

      Blu Morgan not sure if you still need the advice but nothing needs to to be put on the copper washers. Just put them inside the cup after you install the cup. You will need red loktite 272. The end and shoulder of the cup that goes into the head needs the loktite.

    I ordered a head gasket and fuel injector kit (I didn’t order them from you, i didn’t know. I think it was Lincoln)and it came with five little tubes of loctite, im not sure what it’s for, I’ve got my heads back on and installed the injectors today, are you supposed to put loctite on the banjo washers on the fuel return lines that screw on the injectors (LB7). Thanks for any advice.

    I was getting antifreeze in my oil and everyone said it was a blown head gasket, I got the heads off today finally and there’s no sign of them leaking anywhere, where else might my problem be? Please please, any advice in appreciated.

    • @shanek6582
      @shanek6582 Před 5 lety

      Dmax Store , thanks sir, the heads are at the shop right now being pressure tested and milled. It was also antifreeze in my oil, not the other way around, do you still think that might not be the culprit? Guess I’ll check the oil cooler next then, thanks, both shops I talked too after my problem was discovered said it was definitely the head gasket and it would run around $6,000, I’m 10000% sure they’d have charged me that, even if it wasn’t the problem.

    I have an LB7 that smokes at idle and my Balancing rate are averaging out to -2.62 but only my number 5 cylinder is reading +15 could this be an injector harness I have replaced all injectors but the #5 is the only one that has not changed has stayed the same??

    • @Dmaxstore
      @Dmaxstore  Před 2 lety

      A +15 balance rate is the maximum that the truck will read, there is likely another issue with the motor as the injector is trying to balance out the engine. It is rare to see a failed injector with a +/- 15 balance rate.

      If you get 60 overs your truck will need to be tuned accordingly but you won't have to program flow rates or anything into the ecm like the newer trucks. But your custom tuning will need to be modified

      JOHN EBBS you need to put red loktite 272 on the end and shoulder of the cup, push it back in then put the copper ring inside the cup and next put the injector inside. If you do this I recommend to get SoCal diesels billet hold down clamps, the factory ones flew under high boost and the bolts stretch. SoCals keeps the cup and injector from moving, so you wont have any coolant blow by also comes with ARP studs instead that get torqued to 55lbs.

      For one there's nothing wrong with pressure washing an engine long as you're not stupid and don't hang out at the harness connections too long and two what does let alone a diesel have to do with it.....I'm curious where you're coming from here cuz if anything you're better off pressure washing a diesel cuz they don't have coils and spark plug wires and cap and rotors to deal with not getting wet.....
