  • We're back for another great game of Sharp Practice with Rich from Too Fat Lardies.
    In this scenario Justin is playing as the American rebels holding on to a cache of guns at a nearby farmhouse which is about to be raided by the incoming British forces, commanded by Rich.
    Sharp Practice bundles are currently on sale so if you like what you see now's the time to get in on the action!
    Which has been your favourite Sharp Practice scenario so far?

    Just for history nerds (which in truth we all are):
    Denim didn't arrive in N. America until the mid 1800s. The term is originally French, De Nimes, the town in France, while "Jeans" derives from the name of the Italian port of Genoa.

    This presentation is a role model for how these tabletop videos should be made. Mulitple camera angles (all steady - none of that shaky hand-held crap that makes the viewer seasick), clean audio, wonderful editing. Add to this good explanations of the game mechanics as you go and some wonderful banter along the way. There were some rules missed here and there (I paused the video about two hours in to write this review and by that time I had noticed three or four minor errors including a missed "3rd flag random event" at around the 2 hour mark.) Still, almost impossible to run a flawless game, and the things that were missed were minor. Bravo gentlemen - I echo previous commentors in hoping to see more Sharp Practice matches in the future.

    This is the best battle report I've ever seen in any system. Please make more TFL reports with Richard Clarke, he's brilliant! Can you make one on Dux Britanniarum as well?

    I really enjoy watching you guys playing Richard's rule systems. I became a serious gamer in the 70's when I was a kid, but due to flukes of fate, tabletops were something I haven't got to do much over the decades. I now get my tabletop gaming vicariously on the internet. And you guys are great personalities to observe. Great video. Thanks, mates.

    I watched this one again tonight while prepping my Perry 28mm ACW minis. Can't wait to get Sharp Practice 2 back on the table soon. This was a great gaming session and likely the best one I've seen with the way the cameras were handled. The banter, as always, was also excellent. Gotta love Big Rich and TFL, and Justin was really into this one that went down to the wire.

    when the americans where boxed in at the fence and eventualy broke and ran off the table.would it have been possible to merge the 2 front units,makeing space for the boxed in unit to advance...excelent flanking move ny the british really did some damage.also same again with the americans chaseing those 2 units down the road..exciting stuff the dice rolling became faster as the game progressed,indicating the both of you were really into the game.best one i have seen so far.
    i see someone asked for artillary and cavalry.i agree a few horses in this conflict would have evryone shouting at the tv..the best couple of hours i have spent this month.

    Love these videos. Hope he does more AWI. Several mistakes I noticed in 1st quarter or video. Militia unit interrupts and activates on two flags and fires. Then later in same turn its leader card come up and he lets them fire again. They shouldn't have been able to fire since they had already activated during the same turn. Another error was I think with the same Militia unit. They had been firing Uncontrolled but next turn he wheels them slightly without rolling to see if they stop firing.
    Another thing I noticed is that when adding the Leader Initiative to the Firing dice, Rich lets them split the Leader dice between the two Groups firing. I thought a Leader only adds his dice to the Group he is attached to.

      Interesting concept here. Great looking table and mini's, shame to dirty up the table with all those poker chips. :)
      My only concern is the game was pretty static, little movement, no melee, no Cavalry to exploit flanks, just a shoot them up.
      Very well done just the same!
      Thanks and Iooks to see a bit more troop types being used.

    • @peterholden2016
      @peterholden2016 Před 4 lety

      If you're talking about the interruption with two cards in the first hour I think that was a sharp practice which allows an extra firing action, either firing, presenting, or reloading, not a full unit activation.

    At 1:21 casualties are "spread" to a unit behind the target. That actually reduces the effect on the target unit. If von Clausewitz knew what he was talking about, having more bodies in the field of fire just added more casualties. That looks like a fairly basic flaw in the simulation. It does look a very enjoyable game though and I enjoyed watching it. Many thanks.

    So question: At about 28 minutes when the American militiamen in the woods moved forward an inch to fire at close range, shouldnt they then be unloaded? Still trying to grasp all the nuances of actions.
    Thanks, a great demo as always.

      They were skirmish troops so get a free movement dice - so the unit still had two actions left to fire and reload - its a great advantage that skirmish troops get.

    At around 2h10m Justin moved his Skirmishers over the fence using his extra move dice plus one of his two activation dice. His group should then have been facing to the direction they moved and not towards Richard's regulars to their left. Justin could have used his last dice to change direction but should not have been able to fire until next round. Am I correct?

    • @ADHDlanguages
      @ADHDlanguages Před 6 lety

      prkisiel if you're still looking for AWI miniatures, Perry and Warlord Games both make boxes of plastic minis for that period. I don't know what exactly they're using here, but if I understand correctly, Sharp Practice only needs maybe 30-40 men a side minimum, so you could probably have at least a small game with a box of American continentals and British infantry from Perry, both with 38 guys in a box, for something like 60 USD or 50 GBP. Then of course painting them is a whole hobby in itself, so get yourself some nice brushes and paints and a comfy spot to work. Good luck!
