14 Signs Your Dog is VERY Happy and Healthy

- As a loving pet owner, we all want our dogs to be happy. However, dogs can’t speak the same language as us, so sometimes it is difficult to tell if they’re actually enjoying themselves or not.
In this video, you will learn 14 signs that indicate your dog is truly happy.
They mind their manners
Dogs who exhibit destructive or aggressive behaviors-such as tearing up furniture or carpet, snarling or biting -are generally under stress, anxiety, or perhaps even bored.
Conversely, if your dog is well-behaved, it’s a sign that they’re happy.
You dog laughs when you play with them
Believe it or not, dogs laugh just like humans do, although it doesn’t sound exactly the same.
Dog laughter is also known as “play panting,”, and dogs make this sound when they’re especially happy.
The sound was discovered by animal researchers, who found that play panting has a different frequency than regular panting.
They Show Relaxed Body Language
When a dog is happy, their whole body and tail will look relaxed, and they often wiggle.
A happy dog’s whole body can wag along with their tail. A wriggling dog showing you their belly is likely to be a very happy and comfortable dog.
Happy canines will also often appear to smile. They will have a soft, relaxed mouth. A lolling tongue is also often a sign that your dog is content.
This is when dogs place their chest on the ground with their butt in the air. This playful gesture is a clear sign that your dog is excited and is trying to initiate play with you or another animal.
Your dog always looks you in the eye
Soft eye contact is a major sign of trust in canines. So those loving looks the two of you share while hanging out together on the couch are sure signs of a happy dog.
Your dog tries hard to obey the rules.
Dogs can be mischievous. But when your dog is feeling particularly grateful, they may follow your commands without question.
Some people think training a dog is all about the dog, but it’s actually about the bond shared on both ends of the leash. If a dog doesn’t trust their owner, they are less likely to respond well to training.
They cuddle up with you
If your dog curls up next to you, this is a reaffirming sign that they are happy. Dogs are pack animals and like to sleep next to the individuals that they’re bonded to. This behavior means they enjoy your company and want to be close to you.
Their appetite is healthy
In general, a dog who is eager to chow down is feeling happy, healthy, and content. If your canine companion refuses to eat or has a diminished appetite, it could be a sign that they’re not feeling well, or that they’re experiencing anxiety or stress. It could also be something more serious like an illness.
They expose their belly
If your dog rolls over and shows off their belly next to you, it is a sign that they are happy. Dogs who expose their belly are in a very vulnerable position. Asking for affection in the form of belly rubs shows comfort, contentment, and trust.
They appear relaxed and calm
Happy dogs aren’t always overt about their happiness, so if you’ve got a particularly chill dog, don’t worry. Being calm and relaxed are also signs that your canine companion is content.
Coat appearance
A dog's coat reflects their health and mental state. A shiny, clean coat is a sign of good health and an indicator that a dog isn’t experiencing any emotional or environmental stress. An unhappy dog will have uneven fur and disheveled look.
They are excited to see you
Another sign your dog is happy is the excitement and enthusiasm they get when you come home. A happy dog will look forward to seeing you and greeting you when you return home.
On that note, keep in mind that a happy dog gets excited about things like dinner, playing, walks, or whatever it is that they love. Some dogs also hop or bounce, which can look like dancing, to show their excitement.
They lean against you
Happy dogs make a lot of body contact. If your dog reacts, stays close, or even leans in toward you, this is a clear indication that your dog loves you and they’re enjoying the contact. In other words, your dog is happy to be with you.
If your dog is unhappy at something, or someone is making them stressed, they may try to hide, or take themselves off to another area if they can. They’ll even try to turn their head away from that person.
They are playful
Dogs that are happy are often very playful.
In order to enjoy play, dogs have to be carefree and relaxed. If they are stressed about something or in pain, they often won’t play much. They may hobble over to play with a ball but will quickly drop it and return to what they were doing. If your dog is uninterested in play time, they may be feeling unwell or in pain.
Hopping
Dogs hop when they are particular happy. Like when it is time to play, or when it is feeding time. Your dog is just really excited about what's currently going on, and they can't contain their happiness.
A happy dog is truly your best friend ❤❤❤
My dogs’ happiness makes me feel like I’m doing something right in life. It’s so affirming to see their good health and boundless good cheer.
I agree
I agree… my dog’s happiness is my top priority..
They are good a tricking us to believe that but we know we are s#!~
I love my dog so much , dogs are important part of my life and always will be x
I am a proud mamma to four beautiful fur babies and can honestly say that they are the happiest babies all the time🐾🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ and they are all rescues who didn't have a good start in life bit I'm am making sure they have the best lives now💓🤗🦋🐾❤️❤️❤️🐾🐾❤️
No, your a pet owner…like the millions of others pet owners
Good for you!!! 👍😻
I'm glad that they have a forever home with a good dog momma who will treat them with the true love and respect that the deserve. I have a similar situation. I got my little man from a shelter in 2018. He had previously been a stray, and seemed so sad. I tried to play with him at the shelter but he wouldn't play at all. He just looked at me like I was an idiot. I couldn't leave him there so sad though. In the state I was in dogs were required to be neutered before they could be rehomed. I waited for 3 days and then they said he was ready for me to pick up. 2 of my friends and their daughter drove me there. I was ready to see this dog looking sad and in pain from surgery. Nope, I saw the same dog, but he was bouncing full speed towards the car. When we opened the car he jumped onto my lap, seeming to not notice anyone else in the car. He has never left my side since. Seeing these signs on this video I can say that 4 years later he is still a very happy boy. Dogs are some of the best animals in the world.
"Fur babies?"
Please grow up, and get a life.
@@StinkySeaGoat and you are a professional Rainer of parades. Can't stand to see folks proud or happy eh.

Hello Heather how are you doing today
My dog is cuddled up with me on the couch, sleeping with his head on my lap, as I’m watching this ❤
lol mine too! 😬
Mine too! Plus a fart! 😂
Same 😊
Same - watching in bed with my poodle next to me 😂
Your dog is a barometer of their masters life. When ur good -- ur dog is good. Both master and dog are 2 sides of the same genuine coin. I'm an old man now and most probably on my last dog and looking back the dogs 🐕 made the WHOLE TRIP MUCH WORTH IT --- I had no idea the beauty. Thank you 2 all my dogs 🐕 ESP BRODY ❤️
💕
Amazing , thanks for Sharing❤️
It’s pronounced, “thermometer.”
Superbly put my friend, a dog brings so much to the household
@@NightmansSexyHands barometer is also measuring device
Gentle reminder: If your pets are happy and your children (if you have them) are happy, then you have clearly succeed in life's most important bits ❤️💕
Happy children is not always a sign of success. If they are spoiled and irresponsible, then you re failing as a parent.
@@StannisTheMannis305 I should think you could see the difference between HAPPY and SPOILED. If not, please don't have any more pets or children.
@@stevenwilson879
I should think you can understand that both qualities often mutually exist. Perhaps you should not have children either.
@@StannisTheMannis305 I don't and won't have children. I'm a fantastic uncle (I have references) and a dog owner (references upon request) but know my limits.
@@stevenwilson879
Great. I too, chose not to have children as well because I realize the amount of time and resources needed to raise a healthy adult. Unfortunately my career leaves me with little time. I do have 2 dogs however, who are very happy and spoiled. They will never be responsible for anything unlike children, whose parents often lack this foresight, which was my only point. A happy child does not always equal a healthy child.
I adopted a senior Yorkie that was supposedly old and slow and he was emaciated. Now he jack rabbits around, doing parkour off the side of the couch (like running up it and pushing himself off), runs freely, put on more than half a pound, no longer has skin issues, and he sounds like an absolute maniac when he plays with tennis balls and cat toys.
He does this thing where he'll lift his little paw and put it on my face, and then throw himself on his back in my arms and uses his front paws to pull my hand to his chest. It's the cutest thing ever. Little 22 mm (0.86") paws. He'll swipe at my screen if I'm not petting him too lol. He makes these little chirping sounds.
It might sound dumb but making this dog happy and healthy is one of the biggest motivating factors in my life. I feel like I'm making up for the first 7-9 years of his life. Dog lives like a king now.
I've had so many people be so shocked I haven't even had him for a year yet. He's so comfortable with me. Well he better be because I cook every meal he eats because he has no teeth and idk how much better his life could get lol.
The change between when I got him (he was so sick I had to use latex gloves from a hair dye kit and help him have a BM the first day, reeking of urine, it was like stuck in him and all boney) and now, he's a totally different dog. So social now too. He wants to meet and be friends with every dog, cat, and human be interacts with lol.
Welcome to the Yorkie family of dog owners.
It doesn't sound dumb; it's lovely.
When I don't eat and I'm stressed no matter how much I love on my dog he won't eat either, then I pour myself a bowl of cereal and he runs to his bowl, he's such a wonderful empathic little companion
When I return home from work, BEST MOMENT EVER when my boy greets me like I have been away forever! I loooove it! totally in love with my Peki boy ! sending love from South Africa!
I love it too!
My dog wasn't very playful for the majority of his life. He liked toys when he was a little puppy, but after that toys just didn't interest him. We eventually just got rid of them, and he even saw us do it. He never made a peep about his toys being gone; he didn't even miss them. It was always food that he loved. He liked to go on walks and nap near us, that was how he chose to spend time with us.
My dog is 14/14...I don't know who is luckier, she or I. She's the best friend I have ever had.
If you're a dog person, you just know when they are happy, you have a rapport with them and they with you, it's intuitive.
I live with my parents and I can attest to the fact that dogs are happy when their owners come home. Charlie, our English Springer Spaniel is especially happy when my parents return home from town, especially with my father. They are practically best friends. Charlie is a sweet, and beautiful dog.
Just adore dogs, loved my Labrador’s to bits and miss them terribly.RIP Old fellas.
Hello Angela how are you doing today
The first night we had my pup at home we let her sleep in the bed, she woke up with her belly up. So so happy.
Hello Nicole how are you doing today
Doggies are part of the family too. I find that allowing them to participate in things the owners are doing, makes them feel part of the family.
My dog just follows all the things mentioned in the video…😹I love him so much!

What do dog laugh sound like? I wonder if my dog has ever laughed and I just didn’t know it.
Thank you for this. I get over anxious at times on whether or not my dog is happy. I adopted 3 puppies from a rescue litter. The 2 brothers died this year at age 11 so I worry about their surviving sister grieving. From what you describe, she is indeed a happy girl. When I take her for walks, strangers often remark on how calm she is. Closer acquaintances say that she adores me. She is consistent with every point on your list though she's never been one to roll onto her back, nor were her brothers. It would typically provoke a bout of sneezing. I am relieved to learn adult dogs can sleep as much as 16 hours. My dog takes so many snoozes that I wondered if her health was failing.
My dog, a black, male Pomeranian, 10 yo, hits all these points. He is so loved and just a joy to be around. He is my soul dog and will always be in my heart. There is nothing better than a dog and his love.
My dog passed away yesterday. I had her when she was 2 and half. She was shaking when I first met her at a foster home. I thought she was afraid of strangers. I took her for a short walk, and immediately fall in love with her, and took her home the next day.
Absolutely the best dog in the world. Everyone loves her, and she actually loves everyone, even strangers, and they were all like what a beautiful and lovely dog. She would sit in front a random stranger and wage her tail while sitting, begging for patting. We were best friends. I took her out for walk daily, she loves to herd other dogs. It was so funny. I took her to explore every park nearby, she loves it. She would always want to sleep in my bedroom, and prefer to be left in my bedroom when I wasn't home. If I left her in the backyard by herself, she would just sit at the backdoor, not going away. And she barely barks, like once or twice a month, usually at me when she couldn't wait for a walk or met a cat or possum.
She was so smart that she could open wind shield that requires pulling, by banging it until it bouncing open a little, then use her paw to grab it and open it wide then enter. She learn this by herself. And she could enter and out some dog parks that don't have a lock, by pushing or grabbing. She understood everything about. She knew the difference for me to go to work or take her for a walk, even if I didn't say a word. She would comfort when I'm in stress. She was pretty afraid of lots of things, like thunder and hail storm, and used to crawl under my chair, but gradually overcame all of these. She was always very healthy, very high energy, extreme shining coat that lots of dog owners asked the secret, except very occasionally vomiting, diarrhea.
Two years ago, she had diabetes was on treatment since, responded well. She had cataracts soon after that but miraculously a couple months later her right eye gradually regained partial vision that's enough for her to walk complex terrains and avoid obstacles. She was on 9 units of insulin twice daily and has been stable for quite a while. She was afraid of needles for quite a while but with rewards of a treat or immediate going for a walk, she eventually became excited when she was about to got shot. I thought she could live like a normal dog life span. She was getting old, but could still have a off leash walk of 40mins, and if it was less than 40mins, she would do her usual trick: stand between me and the car or the way home. Her sense of direction was incredibly good. Everything seemed to be normal. I was expecting at least two more years with her.
Then last Friday she started to vomiting. I wasn't paying attention, but next daily she stopped eating. On Sunday she starts to vomiting water, then I became really worried and send her to the vet. When I picked her up in the evening, she becomes too weak and was suggested to be euthanized. Basically her blood was out of control and ketone level was out of the roof. Her organs were shutting down. I couldn't believe that as I only stopped giving her insulin on Saturday morning, due to fear of low blood sugar she experienced before. How could this happen so fast? Now she is gone. She is laying on her bed. I don't want to work or do anything anymore. Not longer interested in anything. Life was just getting slightly better, the it gives me a critically blow. I can't survive anymore. I'm sorry Sundae, I failed you. I hope you are in a better place, where you can enjoy outdoor time all day, explore new parks, hills, beaches, enjoy your favorite human food all the time, have tons of people who love you and give you belly scrubs, and lots of dogs for you to play and herd.
I was worried about the day she dies pretty much the day I got her. Now she died, barely pass the age of 10. That's the worst part of having a dog: they will die before you. 10 years or 12 years is like so quick. If you couldn't handle the pain of seeing you dog die, don't get one, or it will dread you for years and then kill you.
So sorry.
Very sorry to hear your loss, last year I have lost my furry baby after 15 years. I feel you. ❤
I'm sorry to hear the sad news about your friend. Please know you didn't fail her. You gave her love and companionship. It's easy to beat ourselves up about what if. You know that you loved her and she loved you. The pain is awful when we first lose them, but there are days when we can remember them fondly, their little quirks and happy times. We are so fortunate to be able to share part of our journey with these wonderful creatures.
Get another dog. Dogs need owners like you my man. I feel your pain.
I'm sorry for your loss. Get another dog as soon as you can, that's my best advice, having been in your shoes twice.
I own 1 cat and 1 dog . From the start i knew i will wanna give them the best home i could possibly give . And they are now 5-6 years old - happy , very healthy and very much loved 🥰
I wouldnt change this for anything , my life is complete ☺️🥰
I'm forever watching these! I know my boys love me but I need to be 10000000% sure!
thank you for this video
i lov it when my dog is happy
Thaaaannnkks for sharing this it's a wonderfully informative vlog!
#1: They talk to you. The best conversations I have, are with my dog.
Another sign of happiness and trust: they present their butt to you when you're petting them. (My dog does this a lot! 🤣)
Mine too! 😂 she always wants her butt rubbed
I call butt pats " 'pankins" they are spankin's but not
Aww that’s cute! lol i’ve always called it _BUTT SCRATCHIES!_ 😛
My dog gets mad if i dont scratch her butt 🤣 she does this to the people she feels comfortable with,
I love my happy pit bull baby. Granted he has pointer in the mix, he is a true gift in this life. He checks all these boxes and then some. Nothing like the relationship between human and dog
The best feeling is when I get home from work my huskies are so excited to see me giving lots of kisses and hugs it melts my heart ❤️💖🇦🇺
Diesel when I get home my fur baby requires I go to him! Then he'll kiss! If I make eye contact that scares him he'll retreat or stop mis behaving!
My chihuahua do all of these things. Im glad he is happy.. he is very precious to me. He will have buddy soon so he will be even more happier
Thanks for reaffirming that my dogs are content and happy! They line up toys by the door to be ready after work. They stare at me, sit next be to me, nudge me for more be when I pet them for more. They tussle together. They smile. They curl up next to me and sleep next to me. I'm grateful that they are in my life.
Hello Lorraine how are you doing today
I don't actually have a dog any more but my daughter has two frenchies and I am looking after the girl because it's her first season and we have to separate them. I came on here because I am worried she is missing her best friend and her family but it looks like she is happy and that is a relief. She is such a loving little thing, so good natured but she is always like that, she is a good eater and that hasn't changed. It would break my heart to think she was suffering away from home but it looks like she's good. She will be going home soon and although I see her often I am going to miss having her around, she's a little gem.
Hello Tracey how are you doing today

Seeing that my furry buddy does everything on this list that signals love it’s to say he loves me infinitely 😂❤️
Here’s to all the dogs I’ve owned. They have given me lots of happiness and love!
It's good to know my pup has all of these! There's nothing like coming home from work, mind you I get home late so she's half asleep and still comes over and says hi
My dog never eats dog food he eats chicken, beef stewing meat burgers the big ones, cheese on toast, he has dog treats he’s 3 years old and weighs 10 stone, sleeps in my bed and gets walks every day no matter the weather, he even gives me a kiss. My best friend

Thank you for your channel content. It is much appreciated.
Fantastic documentary
Damn... I must have the happiest dog in the world. He's completely chilled, eats like a horse, loses his mind when I get home, is touching me anytime he can, stares me down until I rub his belly while he grins like an idiot. I love this dummy so much!
I love the thumbnail of this video; it’s literally how my dog and I sleep for the night. 😌
You're lucky, my dog T-bones me and hogs 3/4 of the bed.
It is very sad when a animal dies. But if the love u gave was the best you could give then be thankful and believe that they were happy being with yourself.
My dog scored 100%. He’s very happy and healthy.
Dogs 🐶 are the heroes 🦸
14/14 awwww She does show signs of disobedience when asked to get into dog bike trailer (she doesn't run away but i have to put her in ) but then once were down the beach she knows it's worth it and once in seems to enjoy the ride . So nice to read all the happy comments too .
Hi! ❤ these videos! i am the new owner of a 3yr old chihuahua. i’ve always owned cats my whole adult life so this adorable _INSANE_ little guy is definitely a new experience! My dad found that Taco needed a new home ASAP or … so actually this is my _dad’s_ dog but somehow he’s “imprinted” on _ME!_ Anyway - sometimes Taco just like _stares_ at me with these huge soulful eyes & i worry that maybe he’s trying to tell me that he needs something & i’m not “getting” it? Therefore i am THRILLED that according to yins, we have one happy tiny Taco! He exhibits all 14 behaviors! YAYYY!! lol i’m actually more relieved than happy! TY for posting! 🤟🏼💞
Really loving these videos. I love it when I'm 14 for 14 lol. Makes me sure my lil Luna is a happy camper!
But I also love it when I come in at like 11 for 14, and I learn I should change something up. She has been a bit more active and energetic ever since I started modifying things based on myths I thought were true. Very happy to watch these and show them to others too!
I am so happy when my dog is happy and happy dogs make ME happy! I LOVE seeing my dog play - he has friends everywhere!!!! What a terrific video! Great explanation for people who need the information delivered simply!
Thanks for this Info
I love this. Great information. So many overlook these things. Good job!
Wow! Thanks for this amazing informative video! 🙌
14 outa 14. Yep my baby’s happy. 😊
I have had my dog for 6 days now and she has already started showing some of these signs. About half of these in fact. She is really so happy with us. We are still get to know each other though.
How is your relationship now
@@tabongamoyo7177 absolutely wonderful! She hits all the signs now. Although once in a while, when she gets caught up in play and she may grab something she's not supposed to have. Like last night she started chewing on the pillow a little bit during play. A firm no and giving her the toy she's allowed to have makes her realize she made a mistake but punishment isn't coming. Punishment isn't super effective in dogs. Then we continue to play but she is only a year old i expect her to grab things she isn't supposed to sometimes. Right now we are cuddling in bed. She still obviously has bad dreams as sometimes she wakes up very upset. It's typical for an abuse case though which I know she was. Her sad look is happening less too.
My cavalier king charles actually snorts when she is really happy. Love that sound!

These illustrations are so lovely and cute!! 😊
Thanks
I know my dog is happy, I wake up to her drooling on the pillow, next to me !! I know she knows, ball, walk, cuddles and chew (for her tooth cleaning treat), she also knows 'where's daddy' when he comes home as I retired first and so I spend most of my time, love my daisy, she makes us happy, we want her to be happy too♥️
Hello Francina how are you doing today
thanks for letting me know about my dog
My dog is forever laying on me or sitting on my foot. She even drops a plush toy on my head to play while I’m laying down
We love our baby jack Russell so much! She is 14 and will be 15 in November but you’d never know it. We take her to her favorite walking trail and she is so happy. She follows me everywhere and sleeps right next to me. I love her so much. We try to give her the best and happiest life possible
WOOOWW tanx about this video very well❤❤❤
This makes me remember my baby girl Maxie we found her as a puppy and she was always more chill than other dogs it always made me wonder if I gave her a happy life but looking at these I believe I did she was with me for 15 years and I will miss her dearly but if I gave her a happy life then I can at least be happy knowing she was happy
Gosh that video hurt. I lost my baby girls almost 2 years ago and this video just was an affirmation of everything she used to do with me. I always joked that she would hypnotize me because she looked into my eyes for what it seem hours . I miss her so much.
Happy dog lives here! ❤
Great video!

All of this is great to know this so for when I get another dog.

What about a dog that HAS to follow you everywhere. Rescued a year ago, he's super loved and we're super affectionate to him, but he bonded to me, and won't leave my side. He seems know know how loved he is, but he's my shadow. He loves the family, but he just says "hi' to them and comes back to me.
It's separation anxiety
My Westie puppy starts "worming" around in the grass when he's happy. He's so funny to watch when he's so happy that he gets confused about being a dog and not a little worm 😂
My dogs do the same thing but on my bed it's soo funny because they mess up the sheets but its worth it 😂🥰

My mini foxie/chiudhua x growls whenever she's playing..with us or just 'destroying' a toy...we know she loves us as she loves being on our laps or cuddled up beside us. She follows each of us to the toilet even.
Thank you . if its right my dog is super happy . he does everything you sed except for the laughing. Maybe I missed it 😂
