Human Foods that Are Actually Good for Dogs

  • In this video, we will talk about 12 human foods that dogs can enjoy. From peanut butter to bread and yogurt, stay tuned to find out more.
    Peanut butter
The good news is that regular peanut butter with no added sugar and salt is safe for dogs to have as a treat. It only becomes dangerous when the peanut butter contains xylitol, which is a sugar substitute found in many sugar-free products. Xylitol is extremely poisonous to dogs.
    Dairy products
Dogs can have milk. But be cautious. Some dogs are lactose-intolerant, which means their gut can’t digest milk well. A few tablespoons of cow's milk or goat milk can be a nice reward for your canine.
If your dog likes dairy products, you can give them plain yogurt instead, which is typically easier to digest than regular milk.
    Bread
Plain white and wheat bread is generally safe for dogs to eat in moderation.
However, not all breads are harmless. Some breads contain toxic ingredients that should never be fed to dogs.
Garlic or onions, for example, are ingredients found in bread that can be toxic to canines, causing serious side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, and collapse. And some breads contain nuts, seeds or xylitol, which appeal to humans for their flavor and health benefits, but can cause problems for dogs. And the biggest danger comes from raisins. Raisins are highly toxic for dogs and are sometimes found in breads and baked goods. Even a few raisins can be dangerous. So always be sure to double-check the ingredients first.
    Watermelon
It’s safe for dogs to eat watermelon with a couple of precautions. First, seeds could cause an intestinal blockage, so make sure you remove them. It’s also a good idea to remove the rind because it can cause a gastrointestinal upset.
Watermelon is a great source of vitamins, and is a very nutritional treat to feed your dog. The fruit has high water content and it works great to hydrate your dog in a hot summer day.
Other fruits such as blueberries, cantaloupe, strawberries, bananas, and mangoes also make excellent snacks as they are full of vitamins and minerals, and they are high in fiber too.
Likewise, apples are an excellent source of vitamins A and C, as well as fiber for your dog. They are low in protein and fat, making them the perfect snack for senior dogs. Just be sure to remove the seeds and core first.
Avocado and grapes should never be given to dogs though, as they have been proven to be very toxic for canines.
    Chicken
Chicken is safe for dogs. Most vets warn against raw chicken from the grocery store because of the risk of salmonella or other bacterial contamination.
Feed your dog cooked chicken without any seasoning, onions or garlic.
And be sure to take cooked chicken off the bone. Cooked chicken bones splinter easily, which can cause choking or a gastrointestinal tract puncture
    Eggs
Eggs are safe and beneficial for dogs. Essentially the entire egg, including the eggshell, can be nutritious for your pet. Most vets recommend cooking eggs before feeding them to your canine. Raw eggs can be a source of Salmonella.
    White rice
Dogs can eat rice. In fact, many veterinarians recommend rice as a great food for dogs suffering from common gastrointestinal issues. One of the reasons white rice is the chosen grain for a dog with an upset stomach is that it’s easy to digest, quick to prepare, and low in fiber. Rice also contains soluble fiber which helps to stabilize and bind the stool.
    Pork
Unfortunately, ham and bacon aren’t good for dogs.
Bacon is an incredibly fatty food with a high salt content, which can prove to be too much for a dog’s stomach to handle. Ham also has a dangerously high salt content.
However, not all pork meat is completely off the doggy menu.
    Bone Broth
Bone broth is made by simmering bones in water for a long time. It contains plenty of nutrients that can be beneficial to your dog. Bone broth is also packed with minerals and vitamin and most importantly, dogs actually love its flavor. It helps your dog live their happiest, healthiest life.
    Carrots
Want your canine to have strong teeth? Give them a carrot. Crunching on this orange veggie is fun and it helps remove the plaque from the teeth. This healthy, low-calorie snack is a great source of vitamin A for dogs, and it builds immunity, promotes good health, and gives your pet a healthy skin.
    Coconut meat
Coconut meat is just as healthy as the coconut oil. The meat of the fruit is packed with healthy carbs, fats, and proteins that build strong muscles and generate energy to fuel our canine companions.
Coconut is also rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and is praised for its ability to improve a dog’s skin and coat.
    Pineapple
Pineapple is not only safe for your dog to eat, but packs a nutrient-dense punch. It’s a tangy fruit that’s filled with minerals and vitamins that help support your dog’s health.

@@joc7996 Instead of boiling the chicken, cook it on the BBQ in an aluminum pan or something. As the fat of the chicken melts, that will be the flavoring for the dog. Salt is bad for their kidneys. Remember, what you think is tasty because of salt, doesn't taste the same for them.
If you have a Costco near you, get the big pork-loins that are very cheap. I used to cook that for my Bubba again, in an aluminum pan and it would make it's own juices. I even would cut a piece for myself since it tasted that good. With a big pork-loin, you can do a full week feeding your dog. They love the taste of it and it is cheaper than chicken.
I used to prepare all his food using a pressure cooker. I'd go at the grocery store and buy the meats that wouldn't sell during the weekends. I'd get duck, liver, chicken halves, carrots, green beans etc, and put everything in the pressure cooker and cook it for 1-2 hours. By then, even the chicken bones would crush like mashed potatoes. The smell was something else but the taste for Bubba, was heavenly. My dog is a rescue and he was dying due to his condition. Not on my watch. We brought him back to health and now, he weighs over 38 pounds. Hope that helps as far as flavoring.

The vet (Doc Thompson) just laughed and gave him some meds, said hes Jewish so can't eat pork.
He was the kindest man and very loving to both people and animals, he had that little sense of humor too that relaxed everyone.
He always got his message through with a softly spoken joke.
Also had a vet once that was the sweetest person ever, but he always went "mmmmkay?" almost like Mr Mackey from South Park.
Omg me and my mother, everyone else too had to struggle to not burst out laughing, he could fit in that mmmmmmkayy? In EVERY sentence, eventually we had to cut the visit short out of fear me might laugh and offend him, once in the car we would howl with laughter for probably 10 minutes before actually starting the car to go home.
On our way home we would mention it and start laughing again.
We loved this vet, he was so kind to everyone and what a great doctor to animals too, he just had a funny way of saying things is all.

8:05 The very best food is raw from reputable sources. Our pups are descendants from wolves so the closer we replicate the natural food of dogs in the wild the healthier our pups will be. When wolves take down a deer, for instance, they will eat the organs first, then the muscles, bones, even fur as well as vegetation in the intestines. Larger dogs love frozen raw food, defrosted, room temperature. Little dogs often prefer dehydrated raw served with lots of spring water. A wolf would not eat any processed or cooked food. A natural whole food raw diet prevents obesity, osteoporosis, cancer and the inflammatory diseases we find in the human population. Respecting the species appropriate diet is the most loving thing we can do for our dogs living their best, longest lives. You'll find some excellent videos and information from Dr. Martin Goldstein, DVM as well as Dr. Karen Becker, DVM.

The only human food she'll eat is cooked chicken and raw ground beef. I give her a tablespoon of meat in her dry food every once in awhile. The poodle/crocker mix I had to put down about a year ago would eat anything I ate. Lettuce, oranges, green beans, sauerkraut....if I was eating it he waited for some. A couple of things I'd reccomend, that are great for your dog, and while you're at it, are good for people as well.
The first is Cayenne pepper. Cayenne pepper is excellent for your dog, as it improves circulation, heart health, and helps to reduce inflammation, which is great if your dog is older and suffers from arthritis, something an old lab of mine had, and Cayenne pepper helped him with immensely.
I'd reccomend giving it to them in capsule form, and starting off with a low grade first, like breaking open a pill and dumping half of it out, and slowly increase it from there, so their system can adjust to it.
The second thing I reccomend is Chia seeds. You can by some meat, and mix the chia seeds into it, and role it up into a little ball and give it to them, as Chia seeds are a good source of iron, and have other health benefits.

I have had three dogs and strangely, all of them were allergic to rice. A doberman and two English pointers. It caused significant digestive problems. I know that vets think it's okay but be cautious. From experience I know; not always.
I also had a friend (human) who was also highly allergic to rice. She would get very ill if she ate it.

I feed my Rottweiler a quality dry food in the morning with an egg mixed in. Most afternoons I give him a raw chicken leg and he loves carrots.
Also in the evening he gets a half cup of raw ground beef with his dry food.
I also give him an omega 3, and glucosamine.

My dog absolutely goes bonkers for carrots! Every time we cook carrots as a part of dinner, we ALWAYS have to give her a few pieces or else she won’t even look at us for the rest of the day 😂

My Bubba, the one on the right of my avatar, is a rescued dog. He has megaesophagus. When we got him, he was on his way to die, literally. He weighed less than 25 pounds. We took him not knowing what challenge we were up too. We started feeding him slurries from dog food but that didn't do the trick. I decided to feed him nothing but the best, for a whole year.
I'd buy the biggest pork-loin from Costco and cook it on the BBQ in nothing but its own juices. Once in a while, I'd ask Bubba if he'd like to check with me if it was ready to cut in pieces and he knew his job. We'd go out together, and I'd slice a piece for him and give it to him. We'd do this every 2 weeks, the time it took for him to eat the full loin, twice a day.
Bubba now weighs in at around 38 pounds and is healthy albeit having back problems, giving him incontinence problem. So now he wears a diaper as he doesn't know he has to poop until it is too late but I love him no matter what. I wouldn't kill my grandmother because she wears Depends so Bubba is safe with us. He looks cute in his diaper.
He still has megaesophagus but we know how to manage it and he is a joy to be around with. If we hadn't taken him, he would be chasing butterflies over the rainbow as they don't have a big life expectancy. People who have dogs with that condition, usually have them put down so I get a lot of questions about how to manage it. We even feed him by hand with a spoon and made him burp like a baby!!! Thank goodness those days are behind us but I'd do it all over again if I had too. My boyz are very precious for me.

my dog loves scooping up fallen homemade and delicious potatoes that are on the ground! we dont add salt to the potatoes as we enjoy them with ketchup and those with no ketchup left after we’re full or the ones that generally fall on the ground we let our dog eat and he loves them!.

My dog one time got an avocado peel from the garbage and she was sick for a couple days
She’s fine now because she only ate the little bits on the peel
Edit: vets even told us to give her a chicken (without skin) and white rice soup

You can most always judge your dogs diet on the formation of their poop. Nice and formed poops usually equal good diet.
