I understand homelessness is a complex issue but learning how to throw your trash away and clean up after yourself is not complex- it’s a simple thing everyone should know how to do.

Most homeless have hard drug and/or alcohol addictions. They get loaded and pass out with lit cigs. They’re too out of their heads and sedated to clean, so a small fire goes wild quickly with all that trash to burn. Homeless should not be allowed to live on any public/city property in makeshift encampments. It’s not safe for them, and they’re constantly putting others at risk. Continuing to allow it is not a kindness or protecting anyone’s civil rights. It’s enabling sick people to stay sick.

I don't blame your mother one bit for not wanting to visit America anymore ! I was a kid in 1962, there was hope then. Not now. I have live in LA for 52 years and spent many weekends visiting Venice Beach. It has always been a place for counter-culture. If was common to see young people with their backpacks hanging out and the city was tolerant of them throwing a sleeping bag out at night on the beach. A handful of people lived in colorfully painted, broken down motor homes. It was fun to people watch all the characters in Venice. To see the local artists. It was a place to avoid at night. Over the past several years, it has become a beachfront Skid Row with all the associated problems of drugs, theft, and violence. I have talked to several clients that have seen stabbing in broad daylight. I haven't been back for several years. I'll keep watching and if it returns to the Old Venice Beach, I will be back. The violent people, the basket cases, and the general way of lving for these people in the street will still undoubtedly be there even without drugs. And in Oregon they decriminalized drug use or possession, or something like that !
The administration has always acted like they want drug use to end once and for all, yet drugs still get produced, imported, sold, etc. Or doctors keep over prescribing. Almost like it's a business for people who dont use the drugs get rich off of it. and drug use is through the roof as usual. Imagine that.
Not trying to be hateful or disrespectful. Ive experienced drug addiction and I'm not homeless. I work full time and go to school because i have ambitions and didnt wanna give up or be a lazy pan handler trashing some place.

Still, as government, you can't put a druggie on rehab against their will nor fly them to their original state [cause a lot of them are not even from Cali] or to an encampment on another part.
They are not dumb, they know how some people will defend them and the government has to restrain itself, so they pick nice spots like Venice, Santa Monica, and Echo Park expecting to be left there even if California has a lot of empty wild areas outside of cities to try.

Nice video. Thank you sharing. I live in L.A. and our children unfortunately are getting numb to all of the encampments and the people who live and party around them. All of the parks my kids play sports at have encampments or people living in their vehicles. I’m glad the city is finally making some improvements.
I must say Venice has been a scary place for many years.
I look forward to Venice and my city getting back on track. When I moved here in ‘95 it was a dream. Unfortunately some areas over the years have turned to a nightmare!
    Take care all!

It probably is not their decision to make. There is a huge liability on the facility if one of the elderly gets hurt. Many of these people are mentally ill and are on meth. Not a good decision to talk to them.

The fact that there is no electricity makes me think those fires and that explosion may have been caused by making meth. I think that the homeless camps are way out of hand. Look like They don't clean up after themselves. I really like the music in the background and all of these videos. Thanks for keeping us all informed. I used to live in Downey California when I was just a little kid. To think that Skid Row is only 15 minutes from where I grew up is a big shocker to me. I have wonderful memories playing in the neighborhood back then

Your videos have a good vibe! I dig it. Anchorage Alaska downtown area is starting to look like the beach and the people here who are homeless are turning just as violent and disorderly. It sucks. I hope we both get some resolve soon. Sadly we downtown have garbage cans on ever block but still the homeless still proceed to litter on the streets and not in the garbages and they wonder why nobody wants them around.
