I have a 2003 Silverado 5.3 and I think u just helped me find the problem been overheating for a year now I done dumped nearly 800$ in buying coolant and gallons of water thanks for taking the time to record and upload this video
@@thesuperbroz747 no, I haven’t done anything yet. It could be expensive to have someone fix it, but I’m going to take my time and try to figure it out.
Damn man I’m just coming across this video, and I have a 03 GMC Sierra 4.8 V8 and I’ve damn near have changed anything you could think of regarding the cooling system. Water pump, thermostat, Radiator, the clutch fan, the actual fan, I did a flush on the coolant I changed all the clamps and hoses, etc and yet whenever I would turn on my AC and be idling it would start to overheat. So I went ahead and changed the whole AC system as well! and nothing helped it, it still overheats. The one part I have not changed is the belt tensioner so I’m hoping it helps. I’ll update yall if it does
Did it help? I’m in the same boat 03 Silverado 5.3 Entire New cooling system I was gonna change the whole AC system as well, only overheats with the ac on while idling
You saved my ass dude! I just changed out the thermostat and was getting ready to order water pump to fix the overheating and then because of you, i checked the tensioner and boom! it was trash!
Unbelievable here I am pulled over on the parkway I immediately CZcams car overheating run across your video first thing I check is the tensioner and it's as Loose as the one in your video was thank you my man
Your a fucken genius! I just noticed my tensioner was shit because my bigger cam was making it do that but I didn’t connect it to my overheating issue thank you!!!!!
Thanks that's what I probably need to change on my truck too I just changed the water pump thermostat and radiator and clutch fan and it will sporadically overheat looks like I need a tincture thanks 👍
I have a 97 c1500 with a 5.7 vortec. Truck runs great during the winter never ever had it overheat or even start. Every summer when I’m sitting still the temp will go from 125 (yes I have a thermostat that’s for 125) to 200 in about 15 minutes. Truck feels super sluggish and sounds different when it gets this warm. Brand new water pump, brand new tensioner, fairly new radiator, k&n filter (still have airbox) can not figure this out.
I don't have a belt squeel but I put new radiator thermastat water pump I'm still having overheating problems no leaks at all so i checked my tensioner it has play to the right when I pull the belt is it play to the right the overheating starts at low speed could this be my problem??
Years later, you're still getting responses... I've got an 04 Silverado that may be having the same issue. Radiator is just a couple years old. New water pump. Swapped of thermostat twice. No major leaks anywhere. I guess we'll have to check the tensioner!
Another note, I had a new alternator put in because my battery wasn't charging. A couple months later and my dash displays are facing in and out at idle. I suppose that if the tensioner is loose, it would probably be affecting the alternator as well.
Hello sir and thank you for your video. 05 tahoe here!!. I was in stop and go traffic the other day when I noticed my engine temperature gauge moving past the 210°F point where it usually and normally operates. It would not completely go in to the red zone but it did concern me since it never did that before. I had the heat running at that time when this happened. While trying to diagnose this issue, I notice that when I would turn the heat off the temperature gauge would go back down to its normal operating range of 210°. Any idea on what maybe causing this?? I have a new radiator, new water pump and thermostat. Also new heating and radiator hoses. I have not notice any leaks and my coolant level is normal.
@@beanlonso yes! I got it!! The heater hose connector was damage and had a small leak. Days after I posted my question in here I was idling in a parking lot when suddenly the heater hose connector finally gave up. Spilling all of my coolant. I was near a parts store so I was able to drive there after cooling and fix the hose. New connector did it. There could be a small leak in your system check all hoses and connectors
Thanks for video. 2006 Silverado 2500HD ran fine at 200 degrees but I had small leak at water pump. Changed water pump and thermostat from Auto Zone. Now runs with no leaks but runs at 220-225 degrees. Any suggestions?
Thanks man. I ran my truck for 20 minutes at idle with coolant cap off. At the same time I Turned on heater for 10 minutes and squeezed upper radiator hose many times. Some gurgling in reservoir. Turned off truck and turned it back on and hasn’t gone past 200 degrees. Retired mechanic friend suggested a new coolant cap due to worn rubber gasket. Fingers crossed.
Swapped in a new heavy duty clutch fan and solved problem. Problem was old. Lurch fan list integrity when removed. I also have found new clutch fans sometimes come with issues and fail to spin properly.

I have an 02 Silverado 1500 LS with overheating problem. Trying to revolve it without spending a fortune.
I think my truck has the same problem a buddy of mine had told me it was loose, it started overheating for the last 2 days .

One of the most overlooked car parts in the auto industry lol
Most definitely
Imma check mine tomorrow .. never thought about that but that's probably what is wrong with my truck as well . Good video !
Awsome, never thought of the tensioner. First video I've seen that even suggested the tensioner.

Was it making noise? Mines is doing the same thing but there’s no noise
Update?

Well did it work? Did you change it out and does it run ok ?

If you keep throwing parts at something you'll eventually find the problem 😂
😂😂😂😂 yup just maybe
You’re too funny! Just go down the list of parts until the car stops overheating!
good one
That’s way mine does over heat then cools off I’m goin to check this before I drop money on water pump great vid
Does it overheat on Idle? Or just overheats no matter what? My 03 is having an issue with it overheating on idle.
@@KinCrusader96 hello did you ever find the problem I have the overheating when idle problem but engine stays at 210 when driving

Wow
Would it overheat right away

Cooool
My 01 s10 temp increases to roughly 210 when I turn a/c on..engine runs aprx 195 when I have it off. do you think this could be my culprit?
what was the problem?
Now please explain the solution.
Does that mean you did all that other work on the guy's truck and all you had to do was change the tensioner from the beginning that would suck
same zr2 t-10 1999
There's a crossover heater hose that seems to get deposits causing overheating no one seems to explain that.

Sure did!
Mine just got hot at idle and low speeds, but on freeway it’s fine any suggestions? Could this be the problem
