- Alignment and pins are dangerous and underappreciated, and you should cultivate your vigilance for them both offensively and defensively. Sometimes, these themes can produce stunning, under-the-surface sequences! lichess.org/7lxPBw0k

When you see a move look for a better move. John is on fire
John, I have to admit I've been losing interest in playing chess or watching chess content over the past 2 years. But you made this moment in analysis so fun while still being instructive!
Watched the game and thought "I don't know if I need to watch the analysis...", but you told me to and I'm very glad I did! well worth it
Get well soon!
Qb2 is one of the most coldblooded moves i've seen in a while.
so cold only a robot could find it lol
John, just came to say you come across as such a wholesome, nice guy. Thank you for your content and being a good person and role model.
Reminds me of an OTB league game I played couple years ago, where only in the analysis we started to understand the beauty of the final position, in which we agreed to a draw :)
That queen D2 move was amazing! I’m always struggling with patients and wanting to go ahead with an immediate fixed to a problem, and that really demonstrates how are waiting move to be so powerful. Thanks for the game, John!
Two thumbs up John. Will keep your speedy and hassle free cold recovery in my prayers! Instructive and fun.
Instructive also because of how easily the rook+pawn endgame was converted.
Great tactical secuence, very instructive, thanks John!
Excited to watch!
Get well John. Thx 4 the content
"let me know what you charge for lessons" 🤣🤣🤣
Always watch the analysis! Not watching the analysis is like eating your meal and then saying, "Eh, I think I'll skip this delicious dessert."
Hope you're feeling better by now, John.
Best analysis....ever!!!
That Queen d2 move was crazy! It shows how important patience is! Some thing I struggle with all the time, I’m always charging ahead to try to fix the problem immediately. And the board vision at the end of the exchange was exquisite! Thanks, as always for a great game!
This was an awesome video, that analysis was mindblowing. Best chess channel!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Since you made your little intro we all knew there would be a strong key moment involving pins & alignements (actually I was constantly paying attention to these themes), I would never have figured out the move but with all these hints I don't really get why a higher ranked player than I wouldn't have haha !
Thanks John, you continue to produce quality content. Get well soon. Greetings from Australia.
i caught whatever’s been going around too, glad you’re well enough to play. Hope you get better soon!
Thanks, you too!
Love your content John, thanks very much!
Re: vocal issues, apologies if you've had this suggestion before or looked into it already, but I recently had reflux laryngitis and just wanted to throw that out on the off chance you haven't looked into that before. I was tightening my ab muscles all the time due to stress and it caused me to have voice problems due to reflux, but I never felt any acid so it was mysterious for a long time.
Best wishes!
shout-out to john for playing with 97% accuracy.
Thanks! It helps when lichess doesn't count 1...d5 as an inaccuracy 😅
@@JohnBartholomewChess fr, d5 just makes sense there.
/S Qb2 - saw it from a mile away /s. Calm, cool effort, John!
Hey John I've been reading a lot about analyzing games without the engine turned on. Thoughts on how long how to review my game with no engine before turning it on to see all of the best moves? I'm playing longer 15+10 games but can't figure out how glean insight from post-game analysis (besides where I made an obvious blunder). A video of how to do analysis for beginners/intermediates would be SWEET! Love your content!
Qb2 is insane, great game instructive as always.
We need t-shirts with Qb2!!
Hi John, quality chess content as always. May I ask, in addition to your excellent chess, I have also noticed you have excellent English vocabulary. How can I, as a non native english speaker, expand my vocabulary? Any tools you recommend? I understand your path is different as a native speaker.
Qb2 wow. Really instructive game, thanks
Love the 10min + games John
Great! Thanks
Damn. I was wondering why they didn't play b3 instead of b4. Because that would be the common tactical approach.
But never in my life would I have seen Qb2.
I was actually joking to myself in that position on move 24, that the computer is probably going to say play h6 haha. Feel better brotha!
Thanks John. Sorry you feel bad but can't wait for you to be able to get back to regular content.
@9:00 I would have never considered this queen move. I’m very curious to know your thought process here.
Since the queen is attacked and walking into a pin with ...e5 or ...Ne5 doesn't look appealing, we're deciding between ...Qb6 and ...Qa5. I like ...Qa5 because it attacks the undefended a-pawn (on the contrary, ...Qb6 doesn't threaten to capture on b2), and it doesn't block my b-pawn, thereby allowing it to advance. Hope that helps!
@@JohnBartholomewChess beautiful, makes a lot of sense, thanks for replying John!
I started thinking more about why I lose games. I find that knights are a big problem for me because they move so weird. Also the long range pieces like queens, bishops, and rooks, which can come at you from across the board. And pawns, which can change everything with a little move you'd never see. I'm ok with the king except I forget it can capture.
Wow yeah that's a move ! Qb2 or the art of delaying the capture. No need to take right away right... It's such a basic principle when you think about it but so hard to spot in that specific position. Cold blooded side step I love it. Thanks for sharing some Twitch content on CZcams. Maybe a title Tuesday soon ? Or even better a remake of your match against Simon ! That would be epic 😏
Qb2 is the type of move where your stomach drops. Would have been quite the scare if your opponent found it.
Absolutely 😅
Amazing!
Thanks!
Just a heads-up: There's a high-pitch noise (potentially; I'm still a few moves in) throughout the video.
Good guy John
I totally saw Qb2. Honest 😇
Thanks for another instructive video! Hope you get your voice some rest. Cheers!
Is Qb2 really that difficult to find once you have the position on the board?
From the initial position it's certainly a hard find, but once you have it on the board it feels findable.
...Qb2 is one of those computer moves that are very difficult to find, but makes perfect sense when pointed out by the engine. You are not looking for "calm" resources in highly tactical positions. Maybe the world elite do?
...b4 I did suspect was the right move though. After c4 maybe ...Bxc4 Qxc4 Bxd4 Qxd4 Rxd4 Bxd4.
John, im stuck at 1400 sinds forever, whats the way out?
11:44 Would anyone be able to go through what steps to calculate after 25. Qc2? I feel like if I were to be in this position I know this is critical, but is unable to systemically calculate line.
John, that is why chess engines have changed the chess landscape, who would ever have come up with Q to b2 instead of just taking the Bishop
Was this rapid arena? I played in this if it was I remember seeing you lol
Yes!
Qb2. Nah, I'm calling the cops anyway. The computer is cheating.
You effectively converted me to the Scandinavian but what is it you don't like about 2. NF6?
Moves like Qb2 make me fear for the future of humanity :) I guess an incredibly strong player might make the evaluation that the 2 queenside passed pawns are equal to the bishop but it's a tough call...
I almost lost hope on the Scandinavian. But now that I know it is not inaccurate anymore, go figure why, I will continue studying it. Just joking, lots of those evaluation marks are completely irrelevant at my level.
Hey John, this is guys!
RIP to @OmarChess’s pet goldfish.
Yea Qb2 is cool and all but Kf8 was savage
Only Magnus would see @27:00
John, how does your face change like that 😂? Now you look like how you looked during the climbing rating ladder series 😂
😅 I hope that's a good thing!
I never heard the saying, A sick man wants only one thing, but it sounds like a logical fallacy to me.
seems like you are always under the wx
i think seeing qb2 while its on the board is not that suss. seeing the whole line and qb2 at the end is kind of suss.
Qb2 is ridiculous. Go home computer. You're drunk.
