  • If you have no system processor to run your crossover, how do you make it work just using a digital console? I'll show you how to set it up using the console's matrix.

    There are proper Butterworth and Linkwitz-Riley (LR) filters up to 24dB/oct in the X32. That's likely work a lot better than the 6dB/oct low and high pass filters.

    Switching to this method and getting rid of our hardware crossover makes me kick myself for not doing it sooner. It’s so much more simple. What an X32 is capable of for the price point never ceases to amaze me.

Thank you very much for your efforts dear friend, this really helps many novice young guys))

    I've been using this technique for many years, and I generally work without a system processor on relatively small setups. However, I avoid sending anything to the subs that doesn't natively produce low frequencies, which means I never send a matrix to the subs. On the M/X 32, I like using the M/C bus because it tracks with the L/R bus, and I assign only those instruments to it that I want in the subs (usually bass, kick drum, and keyboards.)

  • @kevinmerino7432

    So if you’re Eq’ing the pa system would you apply the eq on the main stereo bus or on the matrices?

  • @omegaudio

    Another way this can be done is use the LR+Center
    In the Setup set the Mixer Panning Mode to LR+Mono and the M/C depends on MAIN LR
    Then on the M/C channel in the EQ add a High Cut say at 100 Hz
    In the Main LR add a Low Cut at say 100 Hz
    Assign the Sub Groups for Bass, Drums, Piano, Guitars to the M/C by pressing the Mono/Center button.
    Then as you raise or lower the Main LR the M/C volume will follow.
    And you have not sent your vocals to the subs.
    I have used this in our main sanctuary and it works well.

    • @bjbaldridge
      @bjbaldridge Před 2 lety +1

      This is how I do it also. Seems to work great! Makes it easy to control what is going where by using the m/c rather than a separate matrix.

    • @johnalmaraz39
      @johnalmaraz39 Před 2 lety

      This another way of doing it. But I think this only works if you are not using the matrices or if the matrices do not need a full range signal from Main LR

      It was a DBX driverack (model unsure right now), but it may have been a case of someone's knee inadvertently bumping buttons to put it into a different mode. I couldn't diagnose that over the phone on the highway, so we did what we did.

  • @CEGryphon
    @CEGryphon Před 2 lety +2

    Like Chris Wakeman said, there's a better way to do this with the M/C bus. It gives you direct control over how much an individual channel gets sent to the 'mono bus'. Can I ask why you have a matrix for your mains instead of using the main stereo bus?

    • @johnalmaraz39
      @johnalmaraz39 Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Cale, I think part of the reason to use the matrix for the main LR outputs is to be able to do exactly what he is doing now (high cut & low cut filters) without compromising the Main bus. That way if he needed to setup another matrix for an overflow room, lobby speakers, etc, he would be sending the unaltered full range Main bus signal to those matrices and manipulating any frequencies he needs too in the matrix for those speakers to sound good.

    This is such a simple question, I'm afraid to ask, but here goes... In your venue James, the subs are connected to 13/14 on your console. We only have 8 XLR outputs on our X32 Compact. We do have an S32 stagebox with 16 outputs that we use for in-ears (4 stereo sets) and the main LR. (15/16). As such could we connect our subs to Output 13? If so, how would we route this on the console? Thank you for indulging my question and thank you for helping so well!

    I'd like to have the benefit of having the LR bus processing on the subs and mains

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  Před 5 měsíci

      I'm not sure why you can't send your main to a matrix on the studiolive series iii. When I go to mix select on a matrix, it shows the aux sends first, and then the subgroups and the Main fader "M1" on fader #21. Make sure it's up and unmuted. Though there are no LPF on the console to speak of, so you won't be able to do your speaker processing on the console.

  • @enriquerivera4241
    @enriquerivera4241 Před 2 lety

    So you just connect your subs to your regular L and R and bridge them to your speakers?

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  Před 2 lety

      Preferred method is to have a system processor between console and speakers. Some speakers have that functionality built-in. If not, use this method and take an output to the subs and an output to the mains with the two matrix sends.

      You can send your entire mix and use the crossover to separate it, and use HPFs on the input channels to help things not go the subs that you don't want. Or you can do subs on an aux>matrix. Send kick, bass, low tom, maybe pads, walk-in music, whatever you want to thump
