Luc was a good player that fit into the system of the Chicago Bulls. It was good to see MJ give Longley his flowers.

I played against Luc from under 14s to u20s and followed his NBA career closely. He did himself and his country proud and will never be a forgotten member of the Bulls here in Australia. Thanks for the vid.
Luc got his own mini episode & it went more in depth than what a segment in the Last Dance could've covered I hope Ron Harper gets a Mini episode too.
Coming from Luc Longley's home state of Western Australia, it was huge for me as a kid to see Luc Longley make it to the NBA and then go on to join the Bulls. We had a few other guys who probably deserved to be in the NBA but it never really worked out for them as the NBA was far less internationally focused than it is now. Thanks for the video, always enjoy the nostalgia.

The Luc Longley documentary, kind of an extension of The Last Dance, was incredible and definitely well worth the watch!
It took a while to warm up to Luc Longly because I was a Will Purdue fan. But I finally realized Longley was the most versatile Center the Bulls ever had!
He did a solid job against kemp in the finals in 96 and ewing. He did everything you wanted from a center
The perfect big man for the bulls. Banged hard against all the quality bigs back then, but was one of the best passers which with his personality, was why the Bulls wanted him so badly.
Growing up in Australia in the 90’s and following baseball it was great to see an Aussie playing for the greatest nba team.
We loved watching the games and see him contribute in many ways for the bulls.

Great job giving Luc a shout out. As an Aussie who grew up watching that era it’s nice to see the big guy getting some props as he really did his home country proud. His game was built around solid fundamentals and teamwork. Thank you!
During the golden era of centers, he was simply a big 7 footer who soaked up a lot of paint forcing his all-star opponents to work hard so they'd be out of gas by crunch time. It worked!
He also stretched the court fairly well, making other centers and big men have to guard him farther away from the basket than they wanted to. He wasn't much of a 3 point shooter but he had a very good mid-range jumper

In arguably one of the greatest eras of centers, Luc held his own and was a great player.
Luc was a NM Lobo before the NBA. Super nice guy and a blast to watch him play!

Thank you for making this. As a young Aussie kid he was an important player to a lot of people. I watched Luc go through the draft to Minnesota and on to the Bulls. He's a good man.
Having watched and greatly appreciated Luc during his time at UNM, I respect him for his years in the NBA. Luc is Luc.
Problem with being a basketballer from Australia was here the team is more of a focus, rather than flashy stuff that gets noticed by people. Doing the things that others won’t do because doesn’t get them noticed

In the 90s you really had to have a good vebter down low who could guard and battle guys like Ewing, Shaq , Mutumbo, Mourning, Hakeem, Robinson, etc. Longley gave bulls that at 7'2 270 pounds. He was a solid nba center. Solid player. Great career. Really Helped bulls down low
Debatable, you needed someone decent, and you could have multiple centers to throw at another big guy on a different team.........the Bulls never had a great center and they dominated the 90s anyway.
@JK When I said good I just meant like a solid center. Not a all star. Longley could get you 13 ppg and 8-9 rebounds. Good passer. Big body. And yes Bulls had Wennington, Salley , Edwards, Rodman, Parish, Bison Dele, and Simpkins. They had a bunch a big of big bodies to throw at teams
I lived in Albuquerque when Luc was drafted and eventually went to the Bulls. I couldn't of been any happier for him.
Did he get drafted by Minnesota and then later signed with Bulls?

Luc was an interesting player. A big man that moved gracefully on the court. He wasnt like a Shaq, more like a Vlade Divacs. He had that nice 10 to 12 foot jumper and could pass really well
He also was pretty big dude a solid 260 lb guy. You couldn't easily box out and bully. He could get some buckets and rebound.
His passing in the triangle offense was the best part of his game...underrated imo

I remember watching the league avidly back then, as that bulls team came together. A summer or 2 prior, I was watching summer league games and Bill Wennington with Longley were absolutely tearing it up. I was thinking, if those guys get on that existing Bulls team, they will be totally unstoppable. Feels good when you are right about a gut feeling.
Luke is from my hometown Fremantle, Perth WA. Hes a humble nice bloke... represented us well and was/is underrated to an extent for sure.. starting 5, 3 peet.

He's a good example of not being great but had a simple job to do and did it. I come from his home state so I'm very proud of him and his accomplishments.

As an Aussie myself, ya cannot be anymore prouder of his success with the Bulls.. If nothing else Luc can proudly say I won championships with, and was a teammate of the Greatest Basketball Player of all time. Michael Jordan. Any Aussie would love to have that on their resume.
It was easy to overlook luc during the bulls reign but he was integral to their success.

I think the guy would have been a huge star in today’s game!
Smits had injuries his whole career. Specifically, he always had bad feet - bone fractures, dislocations, etc. Even when he was playing at his best, he was doing so on bad feet (and sometimes bad ankles or knees that he injured trying to compensate for his bad feet). If he hadn't, he'd be regarded as an all-time great. He was very skilled, had a good touch with the ball, and he was huge.
(Worth noting that Patrick Ewing also played his entire career injured - his knees)
He low key was a big part of the Bulls three-peat. He think if it wasnt Jordan and Pippen’s team he would of scored more points per game. He just played his role and he did it good

Best thing about Luc missing in the last dance was he got his own documentary :D But I am sure there are a lot of other ppl worth mentioning including staff that never got the attention they surely deserve!
A superstar Centre in that team would not have worked. It would have hurt MJ's game. What the Bulls needed was a fundamentally sound, capable centre who could pass the ball, could rebound and was a solid defender. Luc filled the roll needed very well.
I saw the full documentary on Luc Longley after he was left out of the last dance. It's on CZcams and is excellent. My take away from it was the reinforcement of Jordan just being an insanely competitive type A personality vs. Luke's laid back type B personality. Both personality types have their pluses and minuses. No way Jordan is Jordan w/out that killer type A personality. At the same time, those type A personality types are not usually beloved either by the co-workers or team mates. Luke just seemed like a loved guy that was great to be around. It's a shame his ankle went out ending his career early.

Luc was a big impact on that team. I can remember appreciating his game. If there is one move that I wish he could have utilized a little more would've been Kareem's skyhook. He used that move a few times and with his height and size, he would've been that much more unstoppable, especially against guys like Shaq and Carl Malone. All be it, Luc had a great game with the help of Phil and Mike getting on his ass.
When you are the starting center for the greatest team in history, you better be damn good. And he was. Props.

I’m not a big basketball fan, but genuinely appreciate the athleticism and skill. I watched The Last Dance and like everyone, was astonished that Jordan didn’t speak about Luc - even I knew he was an incredible player in an incredible team.
This is good to set the record straight, but it feels like it shouldn’t have been necessary. Even at the end, MJ just says he ‘probably should have included Luc’.
That part where Jordan talked about never complimenting him again in the middle of the game made me laugh.
Love the idea of the not so known guys. He was just an average center, but played well enough to have some rings.
Luc Longley is one of the greatest men on this earth, a down to earth, good man who thinks a lot about others. Find some videos of him and you will surely agree
Sadly Luc lost pretty well all of his memorabilia from the Bulls days, when he had a massive fire at his property. Always felt gutted for him when that happened

I watched that era, and he was awesome, so many played ran through him, and he got plenty of rebounds, assists & baskets. BUT, more importantly he held his own defensively against the Patrick Ewings, Rick Smits & Carl Malone; THE best centers of that era.
Love Lucs game, he is massive and great passer and rebounder and can score, he was definitely left out of this Netflix series, he is a quiet achiever, MJ even said right at the end of this video that he regrets not including him in this special and that he did have the power to change that but he didn't, MJ ego gets in the way once again!
As a Minnesotan growing up it was frustrating to see him hold out at the start of his career and then be mediocre at best during his time there. Especially for being such a high pick. I blame the Timberwolves and the culture of losing that permeates Minnesota sports though. I was always happy to see him do well in Chicago because he seemed like a nice guy.

Thanks for acknowledging Longley. Like so many role players, Luc doesn't get the credit he deserves. Without his grit and doing the little things that count, jordan may well have never gotten that 3 peat. He just complimented that team perfectly.

As a 43yo man, who followed NBA always but at the highest points from the 93' season, i could appreciate Luc Longley, i was the first to point him out, i still doing it to this day, but its the epitome of 'role player' they gotta job to do and they do it well, they dont hit the highlight reel and they dont earn the kazillions, but they are under the radar critical component of a championship team, such is life, i'm blessed with following Luc as an australian while he was lacing them up, but it is what it is, and getting worse by the hour when generations move on and missed the experiences i had and reflection on the past is predominately reserved for the highlight reel, those that were around for the experience are better for it, those that missed it, sooner or later (and they will) appreciate what those that didnt hit the highlight reel could do and how they contributed. to those that talk about talents 'better than luc' australia had that failed in nba, shane heel and andrew gaze, they were scorers and/or highlight reel players in a soft league by comparison, they never stood a chance, they never received the circumstances required for them to flourish. funnily enough the NBA has softened and they would perform atleast 50% better in the current nba climate, but it is what it is.. Kudos to Luc who was always a true aussie representative, who did his job and worked hard to a point no one could argue and supporting a pridefull nation who knew what he brought to an awesome team. Kudos to shane heel and andrew gaze who (who could) couldn't say no to opportunity and failed miserably on the world spotlight to ensure future generations embraced and stepped up.
me, 9/10x i couldnt sink a shot, 3shots in when i realise, i start setting up my teammates almost (but not exclusively) every time down the floor. that 1/10x though, i was steph curry, i literally could throw it over my head backwards and that sucker would go in everytime..

They bag on English because he wasn't a great defender. They exaggerate and talk about the guy as if he never even tried on defense. But he was just an average defender. He certainly wouldn't look that bad on defense in today's NBA.
Overall English was a great player and deserves more respect and recognition than he typically gets.
It would be great, but if Sean wasn't that much of a 90' Bulls fan. I can see we would watch a video on "how good was Jud Buechler" first, before a video on an NBA great like English

It's a complete sh*t show. and embarrassing. MJ didn't even show up to the ring of honor ceremony. Meanwhile, many of the dynasties can have mature reunions where the players actually attend.

I loved Luc in Bulls in that era. I don't care if he wasn't included because I didn't watch this documentary anyway. Probably watched most of the clips used on it anyway. For me if Luc wasn't there they wouldn't have another threepeat, he was that much important.

I live in a place, close to where Luke Longley lives and I got a brief chance to just meet him the other day actually in a cafe he was sitting with his wife having breakfast and I said hello and had a quick chat. He is a lovely human being and he got the most out of fairly limited ability, actually too. Everyone admires Michael Jordan for what he did, but you have to remember basketball is still a teen game and he had some great teammates to help him along the way and it was great that Jordan acknowledge this for a long time. People think Jordan is all about Jordan but he's actually thinking his teammates a lot more than what we realised. I look at the way Longley played and I'm from that area when I watch the balls and he seriously could play. He would've average more points in rebounds if he played for another team as well. But he sacrificed and he got better as his career went a long.

Well actually, when i see this Bulls Videos, it always makes me a little sad, that my first Game ever i have seen on TV was the replay from the Game 6 of the 98 finals at the morning after. When i cam to realize i hat missed almoste everything, except what i had read before in my youth´s Sports Magazine.
But hey! I had the chance again to watch all finals series from 90-98 during lockdown. So I could still enjoy this best of all time battles of legends.

I have a friend who's father nicknamed him "Mittens". I have no idea why he did that, but for some reason the nickname fits in my opinion. Mittens Longley was a great Center to play alongside MJ
