In order to win in Mexico 86, Argentina played against 4 world champions: Italy, Uruguay, England and Germany. 4 world champions in 7 matches. Not comparing with Qatar...but what Maradona accomplished in '86 remains, to me, unmatched.

Maradona was a monster of a player, in 1979 at 18 years of age he already surpassed whatever Messi achieved for Argentina when he decided to call it quits -Maradona and Messi are at opposite ends of the spectrum, he was a monster, a leader, a winner and stood up for others - he would stand up for this kneeling down nonsense that has run its course about 5 months too long but none of the players in the EPL have the balls to say enough is enough. His demons were his downfall but on the pitch he was unplayable in his peak during the mid to late 80s - getting the crap kicked out of him too. EPIC

Never mind who is or was the best player of all time. It is impossible to say. What is not impossible to say is that he defined an era of football. What he did, the way he did it. His bigger than life personality and what he gave to all of us, the magic he gave us. That is what we should all celebrate. Thank Diego. Thank for all the joy you gave us. I also know that if I was a player in the conversation to be named the best in the world in a moment as this I would definitely say out loud "Diego you were and always be the best"

Diego Armando Maradona was by far the football god of our youth,
now he's gone, much too early!
In the 80s he was something for us like Messi and Ronaldo are together today,
    but that times 10.
Back then the individual class was much more important than it is today and the show was still allowed,
    yes even welcome.
I will never forget when he played with SSC Napoli in Munich in 1989,
    in the UEFA CUP semi-finals.
It became very quiet in the wide area of the sold-out Olympic Stadium,
when he came out of the catacombs juggling the ball and entered the square, so great was this man's admiration. 80,000 stood there and were amazed with their mouths open,
because the ball only touched the ground when "he" decided!
Today in times of "The team is all the individual nothing" you can no longer imagine the status a Diego Maradona achieved, but today Messi and Ronaldo are little lights!

But if you put all the GOATS (in their prime) on the pitch at the same time, there will be one captain and one player who shines above the rest, that will be Diego Maradona.
