Check out Rainman Rays Repairs. He’s #1
My wife thinks I'm weird that I could watch this for hours. I'm not a mechanic, but I'm a retired teacher and so I have done a good share of my own repair work.
Ooh! A cliffhanger! The drama! The suspense! The pathos! Popping the popcorn.
Always leave them wanting more, Mr. O. Always leave them wanting more. You are THE consummate professional.
Thankfully you renewed the guy's contract who does the voice-over commentary. He is a keeper!
It's weird. I spend all day at my job, a mechanic at a honda dealership. Then come home and watch your videos. I love how calm and cool everything is despite the situation.
I am a retired mechanic in Land Down Under - and I still watch this bloke. Must be a sickness. Can you recommend a suitable remedy?
You're not alone, I'm a bus driver by day and still consume bus content even off the clock
He is in "The Groove".
I know right. I turn wrenches on trucks all day and come home and watch Mr. O. You always learn something new!
@@duanethumudo3967 I am 71 yrs old and I learn something new every day in automotive, machining or just life in general. I don't care if I learn from a four year old.
That 3 key-ons thing is great (for codes)!!!
On my son's nissan, you have to key on 3 times, padal down for 10sec, then key on twice again, then run around the car twice, then sacrifice a lamb, and repeat till the solar eclipse.
Came for the rust battle, stayed for the classic "reach around"
This video reminded me of my days as a Chrysler tech. This era minivan was my favorite to work on due to the relatively simple and straight forward design. After the other techs stuck me with all the jobs on the crossfire's, these things were such a relief to take on. Looking forward to the follow up to this video.
They're amazing vans we had one a 2005 Chrysler Town and country had 250,000 mi on the clock and we had to get rid of her because of the salt! That van was amazing
Hello Eric and hello to Mrs O and hello to the rusted out MOPAR!
The fact that you and the wife work/live together is awesome! Good people 👍. Truly blessed
I've never seen a rotted oil pan in a daily driver. Here is the first and here is the man who figured out the problem. Thank you sir.
Pretty common on steel pans in salt-using jurisdictions, in my experience. Rots from outside in, usually on back side of pan where dirt, moisture, and salt can linger. Once perforation occurs, oil seeps through, and stops further rusting at that loc'n, but you now have a weeping pan. My VW 1.6 turbodiesel currently marks its spot when parked.
You have never owned a Ford super Duty.
One not only has to check oil pan for rusting out rear end cover also
You are my favorite CZcams mechanic. You are very knowledgeable. Thank you for making those videos. God bless you.
I’m probably the only one but I giggled for quite some time when you said “Contact” at 21:17 before starting the engine. It’s the small stuff that makes me really appreciate your channel. Thank you!!
I usually only watch classic car/muscle car repair, resto etc, but I never miss an SMA episode now, always great content.
I live in Arizona. It`s always a surprise to find any major rust damage. The damage you encounter seems a nightmare. Much respect.
Growing up and living in Wyoming, I am still not quite certain what these 'humidity' and 'rust' are of which Eric so often speaks.
We have salt, of course - it comes in blocks for the animals in winter. Somehow, it seems like people in upstate New York go out with salt shakers and spill it all over the streets?!?
@@ethelryan257Don't be daft.
"Easiest oil pan removal/install you'll ever see" is right.
I changed my Roadmaster Wagon LT1 pan gasket this summer. Started at 10am in the morning and finished up just after midnight. Including having to raise the engine up off the mounts, get the tranny cooler hoses out of the way, and get the frozen oil filter "adapter" out of the way. Those Fel-Pro plastic stud/holders are the bee's knees. 😎👍
Glad we are back on speaking terms.
Eric...I VERY much enjoy all your videos, & I have been watching them since day one. I have to tell you that no site I watch on CZcams has as much noise as yours. Traffic noise, the damned "High Noon Siren, rattle guns operating in another bay, the air compressor pumping up, the shop extension of the telephone ringer,
& other extraneous noises. Your shops sounds like a Romanian steel mill starting up. When I select your "channel"...I first down down my local audio. Mrs. "O", is a marvelous adjunct to your clips. I can't believe the size of your kids.......has it been that long ? What a great asset you & your shop are to your clients. I enjoy your clips with Ivan from Pine Hollow, & your dual diagnoses as a team. Small town American business man....God Bless you all.
Good evening again Mr. O another after supper video I love it
Favourite CZcams Mechanic with his own shop so it is what it is, then it is from the rust belt and all the problems that rust produces and complicates in the repair process.
Despite all new car shortcomings, a set of plugs lasting 126k miles is a testament to how far modern cars have come.
One of the best things about your videos is the end when you make your segway about making comments always cracks me up
I'm originally from Central Illinois and I thought I knew what rust looks like. Sure, we get enough of it. But New York rust looks worse. I've certainly never seen spark plugs so rusted. Waiting for part 2.
The good news is that within 24 hours of any winter weather event, you can drive on the roads.
Eric, you work on engines like a dentist on teeth, poking then blowing off with the air gun. Always love your videos and your quality work. Need more Erics.
Hey Mr. and Mrs. O, I just have 2 words for you, "Go Lee Zeldin". !
We can wish but it will never happen...😥
Oh boy ! A cliff hanger! I can’t wait for part 2!
New pan, new drain plug, check it anyway! New doesn't mean good. New means unused. Looking forward to part 2. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.
This man is true legend auto mechanic, Although, we do customized leather jackets but seen videos of this man regularly.
Those old Chrysler products damn near run forever.
Had to rewatch the bringing out of the Brake Clean several times. The sound effect is perfect !
Phew! I thought I was going to have to do some work. Thanks to this video, I can just procrastinate a bit longer!
Intense DIY guy here... To simplify my oil changes, I converted over to vacuum extraction some years ago. Now, I no longer need to drag out the hydraulic jack and jack stands to perform a simple oil change. Every other year or so, when the family's vehicles are up on the jack stands for other underside maintenance, then, I'll hit it with a new oil filter and complete oil pan drain.
But, my 1993 Chevy C1500 pickup truck didn't particularly like to accept or give back the vacuum extraction tube inserted down the oil check dipstick.
Well, that just won't do...
I removed the oil pan and cut out the thin sharp-edged anti-slosh baffles causing the tube insertion/retaining problem. In addition, I welded in a couple of blocking plates to keep the vacuum tube from folding under where it shouldn't be.
Now, every time I breeze through an oil extraction oil change, ten minutes tops, I smile that smile of making a dreaded necessary chore *_so_* much easier!
It amazes me the age and shape of the vehicles you help folks keep going. Sometimes I see the things you work on and I cannot help but wonder how they are not already in the pick-n-pull yard.
That's vehicles from a snow state for ya.
That road salt all winter long really works their vehicles over, and it seems like 90% of people never get their cars undercoated there which blows my mind.
Undercoating doesn't solve the problem but it mitigates it like crazy, it's really quite effective.
A lot of it's about the local economy. Not everyone can afford a new vehicle just because the old one is getting tired.
I get that for sure. I am just really remarking on the fact that those vehicles are still repairable given the harsh conditions they are subjected to. 'Back in the day' I have made floorboards for some of my own from scrap to keep them going just a bit longer. Salt is a killer for sure.
An oil sending unit socket! I'm often amazed at the specialty tools that Eric has. Not always expensive ones either - just very specific for a task at hand.
Nothing new...I have had one since approx. 1965!
Not anything that a mechanic with more than 5 years in the field wouldn't have.
Pretty sure I bought one years ago when we replaced the engine in my Plymouth Reliant. Also have an O2 socket and probably some other tools I haven’t often used.
My 2004 caravan has the same engine, just about to hit 300,000 miles no major repairs, love it
I share the "on off on off on" trick with all my friends that have Chryslers. It never fails to amaze!
I have so much respect for mechanics that I have to work in the Rust Belt! Living in the south west I get excited when I see a rust on a vehicle. I can't imagine what it's like to see it every day on every vehicle you were gone. My hats off to you Mr. O for having to deal with this day in and day out. In my opinion taking your time and having patience is key. Keep up the great work and look forward to the next one.
I wish I could say rust excited me 😂
Those felpro snap-ups are great for the chrysler 2.2/2.5 oil pans, which looks 90% similar to the 3.3/3.8 and almost as easy to service. The key dance trick works for OBD-1 mopars as well, just count the CEL flashes.
Every pull of the trigger is like rolling the dice. Watching an Eric O video is better than gambling. Can wait to get my next fix, Jones'n for part II. Thanks Eric
Now I know what they mean by "The rust belt"!
I can"t wait for part 2 to find out what happens.
My favorite online mechanic. If only you lived a little closer, like 8 or 9 hundred miles!
Eric, you need to trust the "Force" because the "Force" is strong with you. You only do what is necessary for customer.
I have learned so much from this guy, Thanks Mr. O for all the valuable knowledge through out the years.
Another Quality Repair Job by the Most Conscientious Auto Mechanic on the East Coast. Thanks Eric! 👍🙏
i had a 05 grand caravan with the 3.3, it had the original plugs/wires/coil with 205k before the coil went out. i replaced all and it ran like a dream after that. too bad the transmission went out at 210k, i loved that van.
"Going all the way". That is what she said! LOL
So glad you can still talk... I was afraid you had been struck by lightning and lost your voice. Yeah baby!
Keep up the good work, blessings to you and yours my friend.
Key on 3 times is what I've used for my jeeps for years! Thanks for the great video as usual Eric
"Mother of pearl...who put this oil filter on last time???"...oh yeah, i did it last time
"Throw the tin back on it?" We used to call that an inspection cover. Great video!
Satisfying to see the tungsten-carbide scraping the belly of the beast!
I did my headlights last week, and used the Safe-T-Clear coating. it's really good, thanks for the recommendation. They should be paying you.
It’s because they’re not paying him that assures authenticity.
Great video as always. Even though Chryslers are mostly old parts and rust, the older ones aren't too bad to work on. Also had to replace an oil pan on my 13 Avenger, but it was way worse, to the point of looking like an onion blossom. Looking forward to the crusty plugs. Thanks again for another awesome video!
Toyota FIPG,we called it figpig back in the day at the dealership, is the best sealer made and I’ve used them all. Once you seal an oil pan with it you better be sure that you did everything correctly because figpig don’t let go easily once it sets up. Great stuff.
You big tease! We got the brake clean, we got the NAPA Gold (Which is made in the same factory as WIX!), we get the lessons, but now you make us wait for the money shot! HaHAHaHaHa!\
I joke, but what you said inn this video has real value, for those who are unaware. It's one of the reasons that I follow you for. You are a real Mechanic, like me (35+ years now). The other reason is that you show folks that they can do these jobs themselves. I am big on the Right to Repair. So before this gets too long, I'll end it with something applicable.
When you go to repair it, ask yourself, is it cheaper to keeper!
Have a great day, Sir. And God bless you and you family. o7
Napa filters USE TO be made by WIX.
I appreciate the time you take to make the videos
I bet the twist is that the rear 3 spark plugs are older than the front ones or probably never been changed. I have helped family change spark plugs and found that to be the issue.
All 6 were original factory plugs, he mentioned that in the video.
Just a comment to support the channel. Also, every time you say "Welcome to the South Main Auto Channel" I swear I hear.."Welcome to the Self Made Auto channel" I have NO idea why! You CANT unhear it. LOL

The closed captioning will do that in the little preview, confused the daylights first time I saw it with the mute still on!

Another awesome video. Thank goodness you have abandoned the no-talk video style. It's always helpful to know what things are "classic". Love ya bro.
It's the classic talking video :)
Very good mechanic. I'm lucky. I have a mechanic just like him. He can fix anything and is in an old family owned garage with no overhead.
Oil pan and good old fashioned speed wrench, what a match.
Looking forward to the part dos. Once again, love your videos. Thanks for taking us along!
Nice job team SMA!
I remember the early 90s Chrysler v6 engines were know for the oil sending unit to pop apart and squirt all the oil out going down the highway, the plastic pressure insert would literally break off and expose the sending unit bladder behind it. great video as always!
If Eric O and Rainman Ray got together and had a shop midways of the US people would come from across the country to get them to work on their vehicles. 2 of the most trusted mechanics I know, for sure. Take care, Eric. And take care of Mrs. O. Don't let her keep outshooting you. Ya making us guys look bad...LOL.
Pretty simple recipe - don't screw over your customers - seems a bit of a lost art these days.

Surprisingly clean engine!! Good job Eric as always.
Oh man, cliff hanger on a Friday!
So you can appreciate how good that new coil works we recommend new spark plugs and wires.
Looking forward to part 2 Eric. I don’t do a lot of work on my vehicles these days but I still do my own oil changes and air filters. Oh, and brakes. I did rotate the tires on my Jeep today and I think next time I’ll let my mechanic do it (they are 37’s) as they are heavy for this 70 yr old fella.....

Feelin good! #3,,,,,,,,, worse fear on Friday ! “SNAP” 1/2 of plug came out ! Like a ford 5.4L ! Hail Mary Friday! Threads seized in head, put brazing tip on torches, got Mac short hex extractors, taped to 2 sockets, plan A&B. Found a new Snap On long spiral extractor, put in my tap socket, plan C ! Water hose ready, burnt off fluids, ( cast iron heads) Standing on my head,, heat threads, (short window of hope) heat broken threads in the head,,,,plan A,, nope ! switch to plan C quickly! 2 good pounders with the hammer ,,,,,boom! it came loose ! Quickly spray , spray, came out ! Borascope in cylinder,,,no disasters! Got er done,,,,6 hrs.? I broke my arm patting myself on on my back! TGIF ! LOL

Those "crappy" minivans can last 100s of thousands of miles. They're not bad.
@@ryanthompson2893 To each their own. After seeing a parade of those things in so many SMA videos over the years, then comparing that to the 12 trouble-free years we had with our Toyota Sienna, I'll take the latter any day.
@@ryanthompson2893 My brother has one of those "crappy" minivans. It's an '03 with 160k on the clock and way less rust than that one has. Just routine maintenance.
