If he wants to have a beer and eat pizza, that’s his decision. Just because he’s in Germany doesn’t mean he has to eat Schweinshaxe and Maultaschen 24/7. I hope you planned time to go to Potsdam and see the park around the castles and maybe one or two of the castles! This is an opportunity you should not let pass you by.
Since you're so fascinated about playgrounds, here's some info about them. In Germany it is mandatory to have at least one playground near buildings that have at least 3 apartments ;) That's why there are so many in Germany and Berlin. Much love from a berlin born adult :)
Yea - even if the apartments dont even have children and NEVER will have as the landlord does not want kids in his house (probably okay if the tennand gets pregnant while renting). The landlord was on xtra3 for it - and yes, ofc he built a playground area in his garden.
3:35 under your arrival-video I had given you pieces of advice to better deal with alcohol. In short: Stay hydrated and also have food before the alcohol.
Good to see a little bit of Berlin again. Been there in 1989-1992 several times, visiting the airbases of the NVA and lateron even the Russian airbases. We always drove from the Netherlands straight to Berlin and then we went up, down or whatever direction needed. Had a great time there and it looked nothing like what you see now. Would love to revisit some of the 'old' places again. Thanks for the video. Good luck on your travels 👍
Cheers for the video, Joel. I admire your bravery - I don't think I'd dare visit a country where I can't speak the language too much . I don't think I even turned up for my German exam at school (the teacher was a nice guy, but couldn't control the class!). I'm glad you mentioned the graffiti, as I noticed it myself. I think it's cool to learn about other cultures because we tend to assume the norms of our own culture are just the way nature is - rather than being products of history. Anyhows, hope you continue to enjoy your adventure and enjoy your time - later on - in my hometown of Manchester, in the UK.
I love how you try to behave the German way with the pizza😊 And I love how you carefully explore the city on your own and with your friend. Enjoy! If you tell us in advance where you plan to go we could give some advice, if needed.
As a german who visits his sister every few months in Berlin i would say u wont rly see germany there or get a better understanding of it, Berlin is very different fir me
In fact you can drink in the street in the USA but the bottle must be concealed in a paper bag. This probably varies from State to State and it's considered the ultimate in lowlife activity.
@@digidol52 in germany you technically can drink everywhere. doesnt mean its accepted but for example you could drink your beer in a supermarket and pay it on the way out...no problem at all
It is nice to see you having a good time in Berlin! At around 4:30 you say that it unique to Berlin that there are rules for building restrictions and general peace and quiet when you are just 5 minutes away from the city center. That it not unique to Berlin, lots of other cities in Europe have that as well, at least the peace and quiet part. It is such a nice thing to have. I live in Utrecht, the 4th city in The Netherlands. The same feeling applies here as well. The city center is busy, but it has some less crowded streets as well. Walk 10 minutes, and you are in the quiet zones.
*I live in Kiel on the Baltic Sea... we're in Kiel Week right now. That means 9 days of partying all over the city, including famous musicians and many other attractions. The Kiel Week ends this Sunday. Otherwise we have beautiful beaches and much more.*

We’re surprised with the lack of pedestrians and tourists. We thought it would be just as crowded as London. As you suggested JP, maybe the weekend will bring a different vibe. Thanks for the updates but if you need a wee break from filming you know we don’t mind so you can just enjoy being there. Also we’re gonna have a weekend catch up with your Patreon shows. Thanks for posting these too. Great work.
On top of this school summer vecation is close or already there (i dont know for berlin) mean less germans Second thing germany just had a small heatwave usually if its above 30°c u will see less and less locals just walking around most will be at home or at a lake or open air pool or in their gardens escaping the extream pressing heat not bust in berlin but everywhere in germany then it also denpends on if its main working hour or not.
I think because of the very strict data protection laws in Germany, Joel is very careful about not filming any strangers. It's a pity, because a city without people looks really boring. In most interesting clubs it is even forbidden to bring a camera. So everyone can be sure not to suddenly see any embarrassing actions about themselves on the Internet.
@@nicolettarope6030 Being Scottish my Inglish maybe not so good! But No, I listened again and JP makes no mention of how busy Berlin is compared to London. He does say there are quiet street next to busy streets but that’s not what I was asking. None of JP’s video show that either. Didn’t you watch the videos from Joel?
I'm glad to see you're enjoying your trip to Germany so far! Regarding your eating habits, please pay a little more attention to yourself! I've heard from some travelers that our food here is more nutritious (if you leave out the fast-/junk food), and therefore they generally eat less, but regular meals are very important. Especially if you enjoy some tasty beers now and then. Enjoy your time here and focus on that! Even though I love watching your videos, you can also edit and publish them a bit later :)
I love seeing your open-minded way of approaching all of this. Have fun! Did you get a basic Pizza Margherita? I would order that in Napoli in Italy, but in Germany, you really need a top tier pizzeria for that to be good. 🙂
You need a German friend as travel guide for Berlin to find the places you are looking for - not a guy from the USA. With a diameter of 50 km, Berlin is simply too big. So you have to know where to go.
I don’t think he needs one,his friend is living and studying in Berlin. They just need to go to the Tourists Info and get the street maps with legends to find what they’re looking for and a 3-day tourists ticket so they can use all public trans and to and fro. This is the cheapest way to go around Berlin. Just talking from experience during our Berlin tour.😅😊 And of course, walking, walking, walking.😂
Hello Jps. It's nice to see that you're in Berlin. You should definitely try "Berliner Luft"! It's a peppermint schnapps. Let me know how you like it. Enjoy your time in Berlin!!
No doubt enjoying a good beer with your meals. Probably seen the little booths selling ice creams or hot dogs/grilled sausages, and having drinks including beer available for you to enjoy while strolling the parks and gardens. Have you noted the numerous station wagon, hatchback and van vehicles that people drive, and rare pickup or truck sized vehicles with exception of commercial traffic. Enjoy your stay....😊😊😊
Hello Joel. Keep enjoying it. Maybe a change of scene from Berlin suburbs? It reminds me of suburbs in Frankfürt, where I stayed when younger. They were nice to see everyday life, but there is a lot more to Germany.
Playgounds have become nicer in the 90s, we had ok-playgrounds when i was a kid, but seeing those of today, i wish i was 8 years old again. One playground in my area is a huge pirate ship, like stranded on the beach, front and backside looking out of the sand, middle ship is partly sunken (the entry), about 20 meters long overall, 10 meters of sand around it, 2 slides, lot of climbing strings/ropes, nets to climb in the center, a very cool idea.
We usually don't have liquor stores. There are Getränkemärkte "markets for things to drink", that sell everything in a big quantity, from water, lemonade to beer and wine and sometimes also hard things, like Whiskey, wodka, Rum, ... etc. Often you could buy even beer in a barrel for a party, and if you ordered five barrels for 30l and only used three, you bring back the unused two barrels. Specialized stores are usually Vinotheken, so wine shops. But they usually sell only vine and often top quality wines. But you can get the typical beers, wines or even liquor at a kiosk, gas station or a grocery store. Another difference may be the prices on the menu include everything, but the tips. And tips are for a good service. And tips are only done, if there is a service. If you buy a meal at a food truck, there is no service, so usually no tip. In such a restaurant, there may be a good service, quick and nice, and than you give a tip. Typically a round up to the next 5 or ten Euro. Usually not more than about 10%. Guten Appetit!
Germanys quite roads are like their neighbor Holland really relaxed and a beer as you know can get in a supermarket. Ive danced all night in the discos in Ibiza getting home about 9am. I'm old enough to have actually crossed from the west to the east of Berlin when the wall was up pretty scary with the gardes at the time.
You did the best, typical way of hangin out in Berlin. Good on you. So jelly-jealous! Love to chill in Berlin, havin beer and meeting new people from all over the World. Best thing. My best mate use to live in that house you filmed on Bernauer Straße. :) nice area exempt from all the turists. But the street with bars is only a 5 min walk from there.
ah, that end scene tells me, that this was from thursday. in the night from thursday to friday, we had REALLY bad weather here. even a tornado warning in others areas of germany.
Hope you'll visit a museum soon. There are a lot different ones around, one i quite lije is the spy museum. You also can get one of those collectable 0€ bills there
At 04:53 .. on the wall. How much is the fish. A brilliant scooter song, and the answer is DM3,80 or €1,94 👍🏻🤗 Oh, you filmed some lightning, that was a storm that blew over Germany causing a lot of damage countrywide.
Hi Joel, just a little hint. As green as Berlin appears today it once was a massive industrial centre, eg location of the largest Lokomotive works in Europe (Borsig-Schwartzkopf-Werke), largest number of piano manufacturers (eg. Steinweg), two very large electric device and appliances manufacturers (Siemens, AEG).
3:25 exactly on what drinking level are "Berliners"?🤔 However, I really, really enjoyed the impressions in this video, it looks so nice, the sunny park(s), the sunny city, how nice and peaceful it all seems, how chill the people seem, how chill you are (although I am not that much of a graffiti fan, especially in that pretty park from the beginning, it just was everywhere and it was such a contrast to the style of the park. Sometimes less is more). Seeing you drink water and hearing you want to treat yourself better with the eating, is great, as well.🙂 One minor thing: I don't know if there is a way to edit other people's voices out at least in scenes like 10:11, when you put music over it. Please keep in mind that your German speaking audience can understand German being spoken in your videos (at least partly, oftentimes it's just "background noise" that's not easy to make out). For me it always feels a bit like eavesdropping.😅
Try eating like a European would. Take the knife in your right hand and the fork in your left.Cut your food and eat it without switching the fork to your right hand, keep it in your left hand.
Just on a sidenote: my favourite pizza is "frutti di mare". Everything, the ocean has to offer in terms of mussels, shrimp and calamari. Or go for the pasta dishes. If you can find it: it's mushroom season, already. Try to find something with boletus (Steinpilze) or chantarelle mushrooms (Pfifferlinge). Also, you need to try white asparagus! The season just ended yesterday. But all of Germany is crazy about white asparagus. Bon apetit!
You're adorable 🥰 Enjoy your time here in Germany and do what you like to do. We Germans come up with tons of suggestions and try to optimize your stay and some might be a bit too pushy. Otherwise, thanks for your videos and have fun in Germany
I just love watching you exploring and having fun in my favorite City 🥰👍🏼💯
I am extremely enjoying your vlogs from Germany. It's so interesting to see how you experience Germany as an American.
Keep having fun in Berlin for both of you.
And I hope that one or the other in America brings Germany a little closer through the videos.
We don't always walk around in leather pants and eat only white sausage and pickled cabbage.
Stay safe guys
We don’t have liquor stores- if you want a beer, you can just go to a supermarket or a kiosk or a Döner place
Always interesting to listen to your insightful comments.
I‘m happy you’re enjoying Berlin:) as someone who lives here, I really enjoy watching your vlogs and recognizing where you are due to your background haha
Great video Joel. Hope youre having a good time over there. Keep posting the good vibes. 💯💯❤❤
@@ichbinbluna3504 He's a young traveler...this is the way you become seasoned traveler....give him a break. and BTW, most people don't post EVERYTHING they do when they travel.
It was nice seeing you walking with a water bottle in hand 😊 Even if you are allowed to drink alcohol openly while walking on a street, it is not what most people do, at least in my experience.
I dont agree... here in Hamburg it's completely normal to see people walk around with beers in their hand. Plus: who cares what most people do?
I live in Berlin and that’s why I really enjoy you vlogs. It gives me a new view on Berlin
Joel, don’t worry. In the right environment, you’ll dance for 3 hours too lol
And the drug they´re on is pure fun! Lebenslust (Zest for life)
and with right substances lol
The park looks beautiful!
Weinbergpark at the beginning, I think - but he walked North towards the Mauerpark, so it's actually multiple parks.
Hi Joel , it's a great video. I'm glad you enjoy your trip (pierre)
Good to see you enjoying life in Berlin, it's nice seeing how someone reacts when he's to Berlin for the first time :D
In the Mauerpark where you walked, Sunday’s is always a big flew market, you need to go there tomorrow
Hi, I recommend also to try our alcohol free drinks for examples all kinds of Schorle eg. Apfelschorle and Johannisbeerschorle.
Ii,
Cheers for the video, Joel.
I love how you try to behave the German way with the pizza😊
And I love how you carefully explore the city on your own and with your friend.
Enjoy! If you tell us in advance where you plan to go we could give some advice, if needed.
I'm from the UK never been to Germany.....just enjoy it X
Joel, try the scooters, that are omnipresent, easy to use and a great way to see Berlin.
As a german who visits his sister every few months in Berlin i would say u wont rly see germany there or get a better understanding of it, Berlin is very different fir me
He really is all about where you can drink in germany and where you cant in the US 😁
In fact you can drink in the street in the USA but the bottle must be concealed in a paper bag. This probably varies from State to State and it's considered the ultimate in lowlife activity.
@@digidol52 in germany you technically can drink everywhere. doesnt mean its accepted but for example you could drink your beer in a supermarket and pay it on the way out...no problem at all
I hope your plans weren't affected by the constant rain! Interested to see the "mystery city" too.
Most people are sober on raves in Germany. Just drinking Water to stay hydraited and the sound of the music can make you dance all night long
Yep, I just took some caffeine to stay awake
@@Midna78Me too but mine came in small white pills. Dude confirmed it was similar to coffee, so I had to believe him
In Berlin? I doubt it.
Thats a nice one. at least 50% are on Drugs.. So most people is just a lie, but sure its not everyone.
@@cdhagen Yes, in Berlin
Parks were so quiet it reminded me of Covid during lock downs. My take on Germany as Brit when I visited was it was very clean.
Great vid, looks like you're having a good time.... but still haven't learnt to use cutlery yet 🤣
*I live in Kiel on the Baltic Sea... we're in Kiel Week right now. That means 9 days of partying all over the city, including famous musicians and many other attractions. The Kiel Week ends this Sunday. Otherwise we have beautiful beaches and much more.*
I think "famous musicians" is a big overstatement 😅
@@missbeehavior6113 yes I was there on Wednesday and yesterday, on Saturday. I live here too. But I guess you can have different definitions of "famous" so.... 🤷
Great work.
Its very crowdet in Berlin but not everywhere, didnt you lesson to Joel?
Berlin has nearly 900 km2 of space - so a lot of space to live in ....
On top of this school summer vecation is close or already there (i dont know for berlin) mean less germans
Second thing germany just had a small heatwave usually if its above 30°c u will see less and less locals just walking around most will be at home or at a lake or open air pool or in their gardens escaping the extream pressing heat not bust in berlin but everywhere in germany
then it also denpends on if its main working hour or not.
Didn’t you watch the videos from Joel?
this cat just drop the party candy out...wild!
@@ichbinbluna3504,I stand corrected. 😊 Habe wohl Joel falsch verstanden. Er erwähnte nämlich Ryan lebt seit einem Jahr in Berlin. 😍
@@ichbinbluna3504 meinst du über Ryan? Das war ein Vlog ein paar Wochen vor seine Abreise n DE.
@@ichbinbluna3504 ah okay.
glad you enjoying the culture
Guten Appetit!
oh boy.. you make me love my country! ive only been to atlanta, key west.. .. enjoy germany!! and also visit the rest of europe! cheers!
you should also go over to Potsdam. it is much nicer there. and is easily accessible by train.
Glad you enjoyed your Trip to Berlin and Hamburg
I really like your Berlin videos and the city.
Seems to be beer O'clock again🤣Carry on.!
Visit "Schloss charlottenburg" or some of the oldtowns in berlin too (Oldtown spandau for example)
3:17 You know you don't _need_ to get drunk to enjoy Germany.
It's quite beautiful sober, too...
Hope you'll visit a museum soon. There are a lot different ones around, one i quite lije is the spy museum. You also can get one of those collectable 0€ bills there
Biggest playground I ever saw … but I’m from southern small town environment.
And I’m amazed that it’s so empty … sidewalks and streets too.
Love your videos so much ❣️
You're a kind guy with the right heart ❤️
Kiss from F'hain,
Ramsi 😘
Oh and try all the different types.of German bread, rolls and pastries
At 04:53 .. on the wall. How much is the fish. A brilliant scooter song, and the answer is DM3,80 or €1,94 👍🏻🤗
Oh, you filmed some lightning, that was a storm that blew over Germany causing a lot of damage countrywide.
It’s nice to know you’re not awkward recording a vlog. Wish I had that ability.
Just do it, no1 will care.
LOL - the ubiquitous graffiti in some European cities [I'm looking at you, Prague] absolutely disgusts me.
if you come to Hamburg we can show you around! 😃
Mauerpark at a Sunday in Summer is great 👌
Hi Joel, just a little hint.
Liquor stores? Just go to a supermarket! 🤣🤣🤣
sometimes a rave can be a hell of fun, you just need weeks to recover from it 😂
Don’t they take lots of drugs their
well, it's a rave...
3:25 exactly on what drinking level are "Berliners"?🤔
However, I really, really enjoyed the impressions in this video, it looks so nice, the sunny park(s), the sunny city, how nice and peaceful it all seems, how chill the people seem, how chill you are (although I am not that much of a graffiti fan, especially in that pretty park from the beginning, it just was everywhere and it was such a contrast to the style of the park. Sometimes less is more).
Seeing you drink water and hearing you want to treat yourself better with the eating, is great, as well.🙂
One minor thing: I don't know if there is a way to edit other people's voices out at least in scenes like 10:11, when you put music over it.
@@ichbinbluna3504 Ok,really did`nt know it. Was just a thought.
@@ichbinbluna3504 what discussions... just eat the fkn food, lol.
Bon apetit!
Sounds like Berlin does zoning very well, so residential areas stay quiet without busy commercial zones right on top of them.
You're adorable 🥰
