A very worthy restoration of a very old hand cranked grinding stone,it will make a lovely display in a school of engineering for a typical example of the old ways, gets my 5 ☆ rating
You should look up the hand cranked hammer drill, I wish someone had recorded that restoration. It's nice to have these restoration videos, really let's you see how it works.
Very nice. Just a couple of suggestions. I would paint the name emblem black, or possibly a different color to make it stand out more. I would also make the legs the width of that standing edge on the frame. The standing edge is there to help keep the legs from moving, but it only works if you have a leg that fits snug to the edge. That is also why there is only one bolt. I am guessing a 2x4 is about right. Your legs will not be stable for long. Did you use that old fence post to preserve the old look? Good idea, but they are not wide enough. And last, I would bush that stone somehow so that it won't move on the axis and then dress the stone.
Great restoration, particularly the welding. Shame you did not reface the stone.
That looks really nice ! You are the only other person I know that uses MIG to weld cast iron, it is said that this is impossible as it will crack while cooling, but I have used this a lot on exhaust manifolds with complete success, now you need to make a Shave Horse ! Chris B.
Great restore! Loved seeing the metal working to fix all the broken parts. If I could as for one thing it would be electric rust removal and/or sand blasting. Thank you for making these videos! Please keep them coming they are inspiring!
Not like it is. It will not last very long without Babbitt bearings. And the legs are wobbly - since they are not flat on the tank side nor are they shaped to the channels.
Looks nice! One thing, the large holes on the top of the axle brackets are there so that you can pour Babbit bearings for the axle. There are several good instruction videos on CZcams on the process.
look at that beautiful patina even after cleaning it up with a grinding wheel, that's a good solid piece of iron right there, great little tool, grind some corn or whatever and sharpen a knife at the same time!
J'aime bien votre restauration ! I like your restoration ! But the screws BTR, it's a pity, there is no era !
It looks like there was originally babbitt material around those axles. I can't think of any other reason there would be such a large opening for them to spin in.
Good job so please use a wire brush more strong, what you use just remove superficial oxide do not expose the metal. also is better finish if you use filling premier, one or two hands as required, and some sand paper before paint on casting

Wow, that thing must be old one, never seen a cast iron water bucket on grinding stone machine. Your welding repair is great.
Great job but get rid of those modern bolts. And get the stone trimmed in a stone yard. It will greatly increase its value.👍

Beautiful restoration.
Excellent craftsmanship buddy. 🤔
Yeah very well done ,only I would use grease rather than a liquid oil.
oil spots maybe a really thick oil and just a few drops before use

Felicidades

Pretty damn good restoration.........

Does anyone else feel relaxed watching this?
Enjoyed amd Thumbs Up
Excellent restoration. I would have liked to see the company logo restored, perhaps in gold, but that's quibbling.
Good one! But your angle grinder needs a repair on cable, i saw wires.

OMG!! Seamus Levine has been transformed into a Machine!! @8:15 (Family Guy Reference).
