  • Mike Webster from Hansen Yachts kindly invited me back down to Lamb Yacht Center to check out his latest listing, a 1994 Nordlund 65 Pilothouse Motor Yacht. This yacht has just arrived from the north east, and is ready to make the return trip. The yacht is being offered for approximately 10% of the replacement cost, as the yacht could benefit from an interior refit and modernization.
    In its current configuration, you have 6 berths in 3 staterooms, with an open plan saloon, dining area, and galley. The yacht also boasts a massive full height engine room that even includes a crane system to allow maintenance to take place both in the marina, and while underway.
    You can find the full specification and more photographs of this listing at www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1994...
    I hope you enjoy this video!

    Other than fixing the vinyl lining, I like the decor. It has that south Florida late 80’s color scheme. Lots of room. Great review brother.

  • @robbbbbie12
    @robbbbbie12 Před 3 měsíci +7

    That interior is like a time capsule, reminds me of the decor of a 1980’s hotel. It would be a shame to replace it! Other than for the vinyl wall covering, the interior almost looks new considering it is 30 years old. The engine room is also spotless. The owners must have been meticulous, definitely a good buy for someone.

    • @GarnockReviews
      @GarnockReviews  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I agree that the interior is on good shape (besides the vinyl coming away). All the cabinets, lockers, drawers etc have minimal scratch and damage for a 30 year old boat.

    Ok so I'm completely in love with this yacht. I'm into Retro and this certainly qualifies. Replace the living room furniture, remove as much of the vinyl that you can, and leave the rest!! Thanks Greig for the presentation! She will sell quickly!! ✌️🏳️‍🌈✌️

      Thanks Bryan! If you bypass the vinyl sagging, everything is in great condition. It looks a little dated, but it doesnt look damaged or neglected etc. If you like retro, this one wouldnt take much time or money to make ship shape again.

    Obviously, little to no upgrades done in over 30 years... It is clean, but there is a major restoration needed to be done throughout the entire boat. I loved the engine room! I have seen this 'vinyl sag' appear on prestige yachts like Fairlilne and Princess models from the '90's over in the UK. Presumably caused in part by poor adhesive chemistry, it also illustrates how a marine environment can do harsh work on a yacht that only occasionally is heated or cooled, almost always lives in moist air and rarely has ongoing dehumidifying capacity sufficient to the task. The builder obviously did not choose adhesives wisely.
    Garnock, pretty amazing the kind of response this video generated. Mike Webster got a good one!

      Thanks Jack. When my Dad had boats back in Scotland, we always kept either a heater or dehumidifier running to fight the dampness. There is no shortage of dampness in Scotland lol. I enjoy looking at project cars and boats then compare the before and after. Even my car is 2011 and has been a labor of love over the past 6 months or so. I think the beauty with this yacht, is that she is worth saving. A fantastic looking boat on the outside, that appears to be structurally and mechanically sound. Even the interior refit is more about cosmetic upgrades and repairs rather than changing layouts etc. I would love to see this one again in say a year when she will likely be sold and refurbished and compare the difference.

    i would take her to thailand to get a few (many) changes done + electonics - you are looking at spending $250K at a minimum to bring this to a nice interior/electronics pkg. so do you want to spend $700K on this 30 year old beautiful boat (+ repower coming up) ?? Doesn't make fiscal sense. IF you could even get the Boat at $250K refit/build interior at $250-300K = $500-550K after work + a $70K tender + shipping to and from thailand you are well over $600K for a 30 yr old pretty boat that is still 30 yrs old...thus it''s mkt value, thus insurable replacement cost value is not where you want it. unless you pay $$$$$$$ for insurance. and those old Manns will drink diesel. = Condo on the water and you DIY the work inside = good deal.

    • @GarnockReviews
      @GarnockReviews  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I am thinking to purchase and refit without going over the top would be somewhere in the $600k mark. If you were to buy a boat like this brand new today, you would be nearer the $6m. She appears to be structurally and mechanically sound, so that should help drastically lower any refit costs.

    First I want to say you are completely correct about the bones on this vessel they are amazing the layout and the price point are at a place that opens it up to buyers that normally may not be able to afford a vessel of this size and quality.
    Ok so that is all the nice things I have to say about the vessel. Now on to in my OPINION the areas that are lacking.
    You can say what you want about men and their ability to decorate or design homes and various other things however seeing as boats are normals owned by men the one trend I have always noticed about 95 percent of the time boats/yachts almost always have a timeless design Element to them kind of like castles or big fancy estates. It does not matter if they were decorated in 1750 or 2024 they look good and are functional. It is like one comment said when we let the ladies in our life start decorating these spaces they start putting trendy colors and wood stains and furniture in the space and you find yourself spending an ungodly amount of money 15 years later because what they put in looks dated and ugly after that much times had passed (every f-ing time). Where. As on the other hand since most the time men are the ones lulling themselves to supply the money that gets spent to change these things we don’t want to have to change it every 10-15 years so when MEN decorate something it tends to be timeless and very nice. I think I am like most men I do not mind spending money to have nice thing but if I spend large amounts of money I do not want to be replacing it or constantly fixing it I want to spend the money and forget it. I not so bored after work that I need to create extra work for myself when I get home. So in my OPINION all the wood and pleather and lastly furniture all needs to be replaced with something more times less and will not conform to some current trend or expectations. However for someone on a budget like myself I would do something simple and just start by having g all the pleather stretched so it does not look like complete garbage when you walk in then I would replace the furniture and all the hardware in the bathrooms and kitchen and of course lastly I would have all the that late 1980’s early 1990’s wood taken out and replaced again with a stained timeless set up.

    What the hell causes the vinyl to sag apart like that. IT almost seems like someone made a very bad fashion/design decision to. Do a loose fabric look. The one that confused me with the vinyl is that it has the same effect everywhere. I would have thought some areas would be worse than others, but this seems like it was all over. Makes me think it was the wrong glue for want of a better word that was used throughout the entire yacht.

    No money spent on upkeep , nightmare ,easy a quarter of a million for sure just on furnishings/electronics alone,then there's pumps and heating /cooling systems,not forgetting those old motors that suck enough fuel to supply a small country, nightmare

    This one would not be for me. Those MAN engines with only 850 gallons of fuel...you're not going far. Because of that alone, I'm out. Thanks for the great tour and explanations though, Garnock!!

      Well at 12 mph, 1350rpm@11GPH comes out to just over a mile per gallon,, you’re probably good for 850 miles on a fill, that should get you just about anywhere reasonably.

      If you get a chance, take another look and skip to the engine room. This has an engine room like no other boat I have been on at this size.

    They'd need to knock another 100K off the price. Horrible interior.

      So hypothetically speaking, what offer would you make if you were to buy 🤔

    Aft-cockpit is the wrong use of the word. I could afford this, but it looks too plain to me. Im guessing this is an American boat due to the dreadful interior. Americans simply cannot create a sense of quality in interiors. That goes for cars, boats, and houses. Dreadful. This needs a complete workover. The whole boat. Its nice and big. So thats good.
