I think a lot of people forget the little things to us like walking are huge blessings. We should be happy everyday because of that.
Anybody's spine could get hosed at any time. Crikey!

@@LectronCircuits exactly! Four years ago, I owned a boutique, worked 6 days a week, and did whatever the heck I wanted to do on the 7th day... now, I can barely walk. It can happen in a heartbeat to any of us!

True ey.
Hi dear Cody... I became like you after a bad dive in the pool of one of my best friend the July 18th, 1977. I'm 60 years old and live in Montreal following my diving accident at age 19 in an above-ground pool in my hometown of Cap de la Madeleine, a small town of 30,000 in Quebec. I became tetraplegic and I worked tirelessly to become self-sufficient as soon as my shoulders and arms started to move again, about two weeks after my accident. Believe me, I would be expensive to live on my two legs again, but I'm doing well after working from 1985 to 2011 as a communications technician in a light wheelchair (30 lbs). An excellent job that has allowed me to earn a living and live happily as a couple since 1979 with a wonderful woman I always love since October 31, 1979 when I met her in a halloween party.
I am so glad you are alive. I hope you are and continue to be healthy and happy. ❤️
This kid has a tough life ahead of him I hope he never looses heart
His dad is amazing
He sure is, thanks for watching YuYu
Yes his dad is really cool and him too.Sorry for my bad english i' m french.
yes definitely his dad amazing to help him getting through this he really cares for him
I'd think Cody would be an ideal candidate for a service dog. He has an amazing attitude. Best of wishes to him on his journey in life.
Cool
Thanks for watching Kat! Hope you enjoyed!
Attitude I have been enjoying vids on the channel. I'm only surprised you don't have over 100k subs since your videos are high quality and interesting.
Thank you - we hope to get there soon!
His dad is amazing not only working long hours but also caring for 3 young men. While his mother lives a new life with her bf and only has to help visit weekend. ❤️ I shouldn't judge but this single dad is doing it all, and he's single mothers do that also. Harder when it's all on one parent
He certainly is an amazing man, Thanks again for watching!
The father has all my respect. Hes amazing
I was so interested to watch this, as I became a quadriplegic 12 years ago due to an abscess on my spinal cord. Thanks to God, I am highly functioning with arms that move now and I can stand with a walker and I have a manual wheelchair.
Cody, after watching your video, I Felt the need to tell you to be careful of your shoulders! I wish someone had told me back in the beginning, but your shoulders will rip out if you’re really trying to grind on those wheels in the dirt and on rocks. I understand wanting to do it all yourself, that’s exactly how I was and am, but in the tough places don’t be afraid or ashamed to ask for help to save your rotator cuffs! After 12 years I’m having a lot of problems but I’m watching CZcams videos with physical therapists and learning how to help the pain without surgery.
Your positive attitude will work wonders! I was always very positive in mine as I thought I would walk again, and that still could be possible. Don’t let them tell you you won’t see any improvement after X amount of years. I’m still seeing improvement after 12 years! With a positive attitude and for me, God, we can accomplish anything!
I take my hat off to you, your gunna be okay. I’m c3/4 injured 1986, aged 18. I’m 54 now and going strong mate..👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I'm 6 years in
My parents help me but happens after?
dear god, thanks for Helping people like, Cody with a disability. please help feel the achievement of being a hero, and doing great things with his life. amen.
Father is a good man...having become disabled later in life, my wife of forty years is now my mother, father, and my wife. I guess I made the right choice so many years ago! Little did I know!
Cody is absolutely awesome. What a cool determined young man. A shout out also to his incredible Dad holding the house together and getting stuff done! Definitely get into wheelchair rugby or other sports Cody, l can really see you loving it! Best of luck🌟❤️
Hello Cody… After watching your video I feel confident you’re going to have a full life ahead of you! You have a wonderful support group of family and friends + your positive attitude! Modern technology will be your friend, your lifeline to the world! Life is not going to be easy, as you’re finding out.
At the age of 17, (1967) I was riding my motorcycle home from an after school job and was hit by a drunk driver, on Rt 66. I’ve been a C6-7 quadriplegic since that day in March. I predate all of todays modern technologies, I.e. curb cuts, vans with lifts, cell phones, etc, etc. I married a wonderful loving woman, 10 years after my accident and we celebrated 46 yrs last July. We have two children and four beautiful grandchildren! I drive a van with a wheelchair lift and I love taking road trip!
So, Cody, you have a long life ahead of you and I’ll keep you in my prayers… remember, drink plenty of fluids, do your weight shifts, take care of your teeth, they’re going to be your fingers…
He has an amazing attitude towards his future. He is trying to rehabilitate himself. That makes a difference in how patient he is towards progress.
I fractured 3 bones in my c spine/neck. I had to have emergency surgery to get rods and pins put in place, during the op my family were told they don't know if il walk etc again. But Alhamdulillah (blessings be to God) I got through and can walk etc. The pain is severe and so is the nerve damage but I'm grateful for what I have. Keep going stay strong you can achieve your goals ❤️❤️ 👌
I totally understand when he said he feels bad asking his friends. I treated 2 girls like my sisters but when I became bedbound and wasn't able to drive socialise with them they stopped coming, was a mission for them to come. Even when I said my dad will pick you and drop you off😢 Sadly these same "sisters" who I would drive to see when they would moan about simple pain period pain etc, were the ones who would tell me to stop and get over it when my pain was uncontrolled and crazy. But I now have met few amazing real friends who are my sisters and will stand by my side no matter what. When I'm out with them they know I don't complain about pain but will ask me, even when I say no it's ok as to not spoil the day, they can just tell and will make excuse they wana get in car stay warm and set off. When life brings you to your knees, that when you see who really is your friend and who was only their till you stopped being useful😉😄🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing your story Cheeky, we hope you're doing well now and thanks for watching!
Cheeky Nurse I have nerve damage as well from breaking my c2 and the weird thing is that it didn't start until a year or so longer. I was still quite able to do everything I did before, and now I use a cane, but I'm working hard to get back to normal again. I'm lucky I don't have rods like you, therefore not much pain. Good luck and I'm glad you stay strong. That's all we can do.
but you are a cheeky nurse

I love your move forward attitude. It's like "okay, this has happened. Niw let's move on"!!! Too cool!!!
From one Cody to another Cody, keep your head up mate. It’s worth it ✊👍
Seems like a really good kid, I'm sorry that happened to him. His positive attitude and can-do spirit really touched my heart. 😥
He has a very nice family. I wish him and his family well. Keep working hard.
I had no use of my right hand and leg at all 8 months ago. ( neck injury few years ago) Now I'm at 90% in my right arm and I barely need a cane. I got used to my cane, but still working to get rid of it. I feel very lucky my injury wasn't worse.
How Cody feels about Rugby is how I feel about firefighting which is what I planned on doing after military. Also, finding work has been extremely hard with a disability, but I haven't given up.
Thanks for watching and sharing your story Nicole, we wish you the best and hope you stay tuned!
This is heartbreaking to watch him struggle and to see his strength at the same time.
True.
your program is extraordinary! I wish we had reports like these in german tv/media! keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your comment! Please do share our videos with your friends in Germany!
I have so much respect for this guy. He's amazing!! ❤
Dad you're Everything!!
An absolute inspiration.
he has amazing attitude, god bless him
Big up Cody, huge inspiration mate - nothing we can’t overcome and you’re proving that everyday. Great vid!
What a mentally strong young man. No self-pity just a realistic albeit struggling approach to making the most of an unfortunate turn of events in his young life. Let's have a update on Cody 😊
I remember my first day in school after my accident (I'm in a wheelchair as well). It's was terrible. EVERYONE was staring at me, it made me feel so uncomfortable.
Thanks for sharing Laun Elià Kouradiantes. We hope you are well now!
Last Young Renegade I remember having to go into an old job afterwards and I hated them seeing me that way. I since have gotten used to it. Most people only are wondering what is wrong and why.
Mik P hope it gets better and better for you
This young fella truly gives me so much hope and inspiration. I was diagnosed with cmt real young. A form of muscular dystrophy. I'm 28 now, and i have leg braces and severe pain. Trouble walking, etc. I have so much fear of the future if I'll be able to live a normal life and always make my woman happy with doing all the physical things she wants to in life. People like this man give me real hope and encouragement about living a normal life no matter what your circumstance is. I pray for you, my dude. Keep up with the positive mental outlook. You'll do great things in life!
Thanks for this video. My hubby just became paralyzed from waist down. An it’s auto immune your body attacks it’s self. He is 153 I’m 112! Omg it’s so hard. But we’ve only been like this for a month. An going to Rehab to help him move. Video helped. An good luck to you.
Oh my heart is in a million pieces right now...all the best to you and your family!!

I'm obsessed with this channel. So wonderful. Is this channel based in New Zealand? (I'm American and I really can't tell the difference between Australian and NZ accents. Sorry!)
Thanks for your kind words! We really appreciate your support! Yes we are based in New Zealand!!
J Lewis The US healthcare system (among other things) is a complete travesty. The US government as of Nov 8 is a complete disaster.
I have a channel about being paralyzed to. I was paralyzed for 17 years. T-12 complete. I got shot six times. The doctors told me i'll never walk again. Now I'm walking with a cane. No physical therapy. Just eating healthy, working out, and determination. My situation is rare. My story is on my channel.
Rachael Metcalf I wish it was only a complete disaster! The worst is yet to come when our medical care gets unraveled by that lunatic Ryan and his cohorts. Luckily the folks in this video are not in the USA. An injury like this could bankrupt you and your family...
I agree, this channel is a Godsend. Very enlightening to hear these stories. Not many people focus on telling stories like this.
What an amazing dad...
VERY inspirational!!! Thank you!!!!
Great family and a wonderfull dad. God bless them.
Cody's Story is just like Mine! Best documentary About Spinal Cord Injuries I Have seen!
Thanks for watching turbodave100
Good on you Cody keep up the hard work , glad your body is seemingly adapting well with your injury and not suffering chronic pain , aggressive spasms and constant autonomic dysreflexia. Some peoples bodies just never adapt and even with massive drive to live as good as they can, there body has other plans all the time. All the best buddy.
Also one thing Attitude ,I'd like to see some stories of people pushing hard to live as well as they can, but due to complications of there SCI destroys even there wheel chair life plans and how they deal with that as well as dealing with wheel chair life in general. I think a lot of people would relate more to shit going bad and never right.
Hi Az Martin, thanks for your feedback. We always try to produce stories that are a balance of the person's ups and downs.

These types of injuries are extremely rare in American Football due to the padding and helmets they wear to protect themselves.
Food for thought.
It was sad to watch him drink out of a cup and then the juice spilled but I'm proud that he tried
I actually feel for dad a lot. He have other boys that can help. I'm pretty sure the 18 year old can make lunch during the day.
Thanks for watching!Hope you enjoyed our channel!
I was thinking the same thing,I have 3 boys and my 13yr old helps out heaps
I was thinking the exact same thing. By 13 years old my kids could care for themselves if needed and definitely helped out with chores including making their own lunches and dinner for the family. They never felt like it wasn't fair and appreciated all my hubby and I taught them when they went away for Uni. Kudos to this strong father, an amazing role model for all his sons.
God Bless you and give you strength =)
what he's dealing with is more difficult than football. stay strong Cody, my last name is cody too.
My lover got paralysed from an accident. Please pray for him.....
Im community support/healthcare person. I work mainly with tetra/quads. So good for you. Not sure how old this story. Hopefully you still into your rugby? Wheelchair rugby.
Wait a second, the description says he BROKE HIS NECK? The fact he SURVIVED is already a miracle.
Koyuki-Haku. Yeah. 😟
It says he FRACTURED his neck not he broke his neck
Maryanne Carey a fracture is the same thing as a break. I also broke my neck. I am now C5/6 quadriplegic. High functioning. I even manage my own personal care. I still work with my husband. I am an administrative assistant. Manage our home. We have twin sons still living at home. I do most of the cooking for the family and laundry etc. I have some government funded care. They fund 21 hours per week. I have 2 personal care assistants. Canada is a very caring country. I feel very fortunate. My extended family is not supportive. They pretty much rejected me after my accident when I fainted and broke or fractured my neck. 😊
Denise Paulsen I’m so sorry. I guess I should know if things mean the same thing before I try to correct people. Whoops.
This is adorable
Very sad , life can be brutal
Congratulations 🎉 on moving forward, it’s like falling of your bike, or trip and fall, get back up dust your self off an get back on, take it one day at a time, even the little things that you do make a huge difference. 💪⚽️😊
Awesome guy!!
Can someone tell me the music they use? really love it
Forca, meu lindo força força é lindo você
Damn Both Cody & His Dad Have The Long Cute Rat Tails
friend awesome !!
Hi how are you doing now haven't seen any more videos have you got marked lately
I don't think the reality of the situation has hit him 100 percent yet..wouldn't wanna walk again...? really?
So mean
sux i worked reties from aafes. 24 tears. drove 22 years. rest work from home.
Tinorangatiratanga! Awesome.
Still much active.
Dad it seems does everything at home, and works as well. Life at home has changed now. How about introducing a regular weekly rota for the brother's to cook, clean, do their share at home, support their father and brother. A meal for Dad to come home to would be a welcome change now and again. Adjustments need to be made for him at school, especially for access. Introduce regular breaks with snacks and a meal, and a different peer student allocated to support him every day. Come on NZ, make this young man's life easier.
only thing i disagree with is the whole ''i've achieved so much in a chair i wouldn't wanna walk again'' i've been in a chair most my life now and i'd do almost anything to walk again and i think anyone that saids that is either full of sh&t or lying to themselves but hey whatever gets you through the day but you'll never convince me
michaelsjourney87 well I am one of those people. It has humbled me and now I have REAL FRIENDS. Not shallow narcissistic arseholes. I have done more with my life now in a chair then I did as an AB. Its not full of shite because 9 out of 10 are happier now then before. I would not go back.
I agree, I have two chronic physical condition which have left me dependent on a wheelchair & no way on earth I would choose this level of disability. I now understand first hand how is is to seriously physically struggle, be ill & in pain & that the doctors barely understand anything about either of my conditions & are annoyingly conservative with treatment... All the negatives far outweigh the positives of being disabled for me.
I hear others say they are a nicer person now, or are more themselves, realize other struggle, have better relationships, found their passion etc, for me I never had those problems when I was able bodied, I have just been prevented from doing so much, sharing my kindness, helping people, expressing myself, prevented my teaching career etc.
+kither04 I seriously disagree with your statistic. So are you basically saying you were a worse person before your accident? I am glad it has been a catalyst for change but wish it could have been a less horrific event to make you a better person.
exactly makes me wonder how bad he truly was or if he's just saying that because he's really got no choice fake it til you make it as they say
well it's nice to finally meet another disabled person who doesn't try to bs themselves or the people around them just for the sake of not appearing self loathing/negative nancy/bitter etc and it's not that i rather be real and say you know what this f!"£$ing sucks and this is not a life i'd wish on anyone it's not inspiring it's a nightmare personally economically etc so if you're going to be inspired be inspired for the person i am not this metal prison i sit in
His dad is absolutely amazing but he doesn't seem to have a lot of friends or a good social network in this video.....maybe I missed something but its my opinion
amazing story very powerful it a shame that he can’t play rugby but he can do wheel chair rugby he could be good at it when he is getting used to the wheel chair
❤️
Hello sir... I am Indian also spinal cord injury person cervical C5 C6 your future pushing gloves is different easy I need that type blouse please suggest me.
Why hasn't the school.put in ramps every where, and the buttons to open doors.... like they know they have a student in a wheel chair, and who knows they might have another in the future. In Canada these things are mandatory at schools, any kind of hospital or doctors office, shopping malls/other shopping places or stores. I'm sure I'm even missing some. It should be like this all over the world.
spinner spine how much bro
Poor him
And my bro you need to build absolute upper body strength which will help you when it comes to your wheelchair 🦽
My bro you got to hit the gym at this point the gym is your best friend it will make your transfers easier I’m a quad myself but I’m not able to be in a manual wheelchair 👨🦽 I have an electric wheelchair instead
On the days your arms need a rest I was wondering if there is a kind of a wheelchair that has a handle you pull back and it cranks the wheels like bicycle tires much easier and you can glide a bit.
Also there are discrimination laws that you have a right to have any assistance
You need to go to college . If you need an assistant to open doors etc.
They need to put in a button and electric door for you.
Why don’t they wear helmets in rugby?
I'd love to see Cody start playing on a rugby team like Wheel Black rugby team that Maia Amai tried out for feature in the Active Live video czcams.com/video/Dg3EyU-gT-4/video.html. Good luck to you, Cody.
Hi Sarah, just as an update - Cody now plays in the Wheel Black team! Thanks for watching!
Where are the wheelchair access doors??? Button activation??
I know how you feeling ideas a normal girl before my brain surgery now there's nothing I van do😪
I wish I knew him.
Thanks for watching!
no problem.
I am also paralyze from leg ❤
Cody looked like the only student at school wearing long pants. is that because he had a catheter tube running down his leg to a empty bag?
These boys could be helping their dad WTF,just watching him cook, clean, work allllll them hours, and not ONE of them seem to lift a hand😮😮😮😮
What? The mum moved away to be with her boyfriend while the kid was in hospital 🏥.
Well I never say this a lot, but 'May she live a miserable life for ever'
I wish he could use his fingers
Tiny man at 13:20
9:56 cook tea?
'tea' can refer to a meal too.
all the vids of paras and quads showing strength of character on yt? why not show others who can't cope / it would be true to life? im fed up with watching these triumphalist stories as they maybe have back up help others dont
great vid though and very impressed

Shams Alhedaia Jesus is Lord and the only way to Heaven. Sorry no virgins in Heaven lol why do u guys believe that??? Lol 😂
Wouldn’t he be much better off in a motorised scooter!! Much easier to get around that way.
They’re expensive
I think his father saying it has matured him is fine. But to then say it has made him 'a better person'... I didn't like that.
Johnny joestar irl
Are Cody’s parents divorced?
.
I think it was disgusting that the father commented about having to cut up Cody's food for him and he was in the same room. I think it was done jokingly, but it was in very poor taste
Steve Gibson you may be overreacting just a bit
Steve Gibson hes a tough kid. Can take a joke unlike you
Steve Gibson Good heavens that is an immature attitude. Don’t be such a drama Queen!
You are a drama queen. He is stating a fact, he cuts up his tea because he is fussy and that's how he likes it.
Steve Gibson having worked with disabled young adults I can assure you he wouldn't have been offended. It is a fact he needs his food cutting up. Get a grip dear.
There is no god but God but God and God heal you😭😭
My gf ot 15 left me so hard gold diggers.
