As a fellow disabled person who relies on one person for almost everything, I definitely felt some very strong emotions while watching him discuss his concerns. It's true that the abled world often doesn't take us into account at all, and if they do it's either as an "inspiration" or as a subject of pity. It can be very frustrating. I wish thisan nothing but the best in his journey and hopefully someone in the Korean government can see stories like this and realise that pay systems need to change - complex need care should be paid more.
I hope this embarrasses the crap out of his government and that the pay raise for "complete care" or whatever it would be called is implemented very soon. It would be nice if someone within the caregiving community would ask their employees if any of them would be willing to be assigned to him at least temporarily. It's concerning that his mother can't even get a break to see to her own health needs. There must be someone out there who has a big enough heart to help out. I understand that they should get better pay for more intensive work. I don't intend this to be an excuse for wages to stay low. I just think money isn't everything. Maybe in the meantime there's a caregiver, near him, who is also an aspiring youtuber? As a bonus he could do a collaboration and give them some editing skills they may not have considered before.
Let's get donations going so his mother can take a break in order to get treatment for herself. She probably doesn't want a vacation or anything since Koreans are hands on. I only cried when they showed his mother. What a saint. I hope she can get some relief.

i really appreciated his honest telling of when he was considering suicide. i think it's unfortunately a common experience for disabled and/or mentally ill people to feel there is no other way. but what he says is so true - he did not do anything wrong, and there is no reason he should have to die. he is disabled, and this does not mean he has any less right to live. i hope we can make changes happen around the world in terms of helping people receive the proper care they need. it's terrible that the government is not properly compensating care workers and leaving people like this man and his family to suffer for it.

Unfortunately the worse that could have happened if he wasn’t handled correctly and with certain precautions, his diaphragm or breathing would stop working. Of course then it’s fatal. So I think God was watching over this young man, and as I daily have to repeat to myself, there’s a reason I am in my current body for some purpose, cause, or who knows why but we all have purpose.
I was so touched by this video. As an Asian American, we rarely get to see portrayals of Asians in ways that humanize us. When we're a part of the conversation at all it's usually framed in a negative light or we are completely erased. These kinds of stories show the world that we're like anyone else.
In terms of accessibility, Korea is so far behind many other countries in the world. Technologically so advanced, but not for everyone. I have lived there for almost 8 years and it’s painful to actually see how the disabled are treated there. Most of it is due to the lack of education. I hope that this can change in the near future. Everyone deserves to live as comfortable a life as they can.
As someone who is a disabled, this is a very hard video to watch. Mostly cause I'm pretty independent and don't really rely on anyone to take care of me. I'm legally blind n get around without help besides using public transit, taxis n Uber for transportation. But for the most part I'm on my own. I'm terrified of losing my independence and having to rely on someone to take care of me. I'm scared of feeling like a burden so I never ask for help. I feel for this guy in the video. I don't live in Korea but it's still tough here in the US being disabled. Society still has an extremely long way to go before it fully accepts us. This includes jobs that hire disabled workers, medical care, public transit being more disabled friendly, schools, etc. We are human not an afterthought.
We never got one second of in-home nursing for the entire time my daughter was alive. Even when we qualified for nursing hours the pay is so low they can get much easier jobs for the same wage with far less responsibility and workload. Thankfully I have my husband and we'd switch out so we take turns sleeping, take turns lifting etc. We'd have kept doing it but unfortunately, she got sick and didn't survive. People will say well at least you don't have that burden anymore. I never felt burdened by my child. I love her. People are quick to point out how much work there is to do and not enough hours in the day & then not offer to help and refuse to help when asked. Not even dropping off a takeout meal or picking up a grocery order.
My wife is also disabled(due to her having JRA early on)and has been on a wheel chair most of her life she still can do most things a normal people can do, except standing because her joints are all in weird positions mostly her fingers. She despises the thought of having to rely on others to do basic things so it really hit me hard watching this man and his mother struggles in a day. The self-pity is what eats them up, I know coz my wife tells me that she tried to end it multiple times in the past and still thinks of it when she's having a hard time. Hope them good health and more strength to overcome this.

Every time I see him, I always have same wishful thinking if he could move his hands freely...This guy can do much with his disability. His desires and will to live is amazing.

just because we’re disabled, doesn’t mean that we’re unfortunate lol. that’s such a negative stereotype for us. we also don’t need others to save us or for us to be seen as “weak”

Wow, you’d think that Korean care was next level considering their maternity section and that being apart of the army would give him some benefits but no…that’s quite surprising. The gov need to get on it. He seems lovely and his mum is an saint 🥲. but I know one blogger she is a women from russia who is like 35 she live in korea for like 15 years and she sad how good the system from people like these maybe she did not mean directly that case where person can not move at all but according to her words disabled people treated very good and all her friends who are also either from russia or other post USSR countries like Ukraine Armenia Kazakhstan Uzbekistan all of them say same thing how good the system is all of them at least lived in korea for many (10+) years and have families its very strange whenever you ask a westerner he will say how bad it is but is you ask people from post ussr country they say how god it is maybe its just different perspective
From my short time in Korea plus all of my own personal digging into this subject, Korea has a very strong distaste for "The Other". Socially, they're still very behind but I still see possibilities for good and caring nature amongst them. Here's to a better future ❤️

@@allenk6373 The thing is, disabled people don't only want / need a support system (as in, a health and social care system). There is also a need for inclusion in the workplace, business support, marriage equality, to be taken seriously as parents, a need for friendship and taking part in sports or hobbies (sometimes that can just be that bars are not accessible). There's a need for people to talk to you like you're a sentient adult. A need to have opportunities in all areas. Support and healthcare is good but if people don't want to hang out with you, marry you, have kids with you, or employ you... it's not fun.
Of course, because most are shallow only emphasizing what is beautiful and perfect and anything that will not be within that norms are considered unacceptable and should be annihilated

I really want to thank Asian Boss for sharing this. When we think of Korea, we think of K-Pop & K-Drama and sometimes we tend to forget about these types of things. This was an eye opener. I also want to thank his mom for helping him - despite her health problems, she'll be blessed for that! Keep your head up king - you've gained our respect!

I'm glad he has a supportive family though. I think at the very least his family are a lot closer than a lot of us. I watched a video couple weeks ago about some clinical research into treating damaged nerves. Hopefully with the advancement of AI these scientific researches will progress quicker and people will get their individual freedom back from diseases or accidents.

Sometimes we lost everything in order to value what it really matters. From a different perspective, this is a really though challenge in life, not only in terms of physical activity but mind one. The challenge of receiving help and support from the ones around the person, and the challenge to keep yourself every single day moving on and keep on trying. We take everything for granted, health, our relatives, peace or even a roof...
So many emotions in such a short amount of time! One of the most important feelings is hope for a better future and knowing he managed to raise his kids is awe inspiring!

Even in the states, many people fail to realize that persons with disabilities are people with jobs, families, and hobbies. Hearing him talk about the old man who brushed him off left a pit in my stomach. I'm currently a graduate student studying prosthetics and orthotics and have a very strong interest in learning more about disability rights, especially in South Korea. I've already watched several videos featuring Won-Jun Lee. Limitations are not easy, but it is very important and interesting to see how people deal with these limitations. I admire the way he can express himself so well and even inspire others.
The limitations are built in society though. The point of the video is to show how inaccessible the world is to people like him who have sever disabilities.

I work in the disability sector& in AUS we are fortunate to have a govt funding body allocated to assist people with disability and even supported accommodation. This is just really sad to hear. I am so privileged to live in the UK. I have Universal Healthcare from the cradle to the grave. If he were in the UK he would be in his own home, wet room and suitable for a Quadriplegic. Also he would have round the clock care. Donations from Armed Forces Charities. I am bemused that for the 10th richest Country in the world it treats it's most venerable with contempt. I am disabled myself I have two care visits a day. I have company and feel connected to the outside world not shut away like this gentleman is. Lee Wonjun your are an handsome man with an handsome family. In recent K-dramas and films I hear the word handicapped. That word has not been used in the UK for some sixty years. Physically Challenged. I would like people with physical challenges to watch the 2012 Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics. Physical challenges were embraced and gave inspiration for the effort and talent of the competitors.

Such a lovely man. He's lucky he's in South Korea and not China. I was thinking what he was saying about being on welfare and needing help. I'm sure when his mother passes away that either his daughter or wife of one of his sons will care for him. He seems to be loved by them.

I have been watching them for several years, and even though I worked with senior citizens who had physical and mental disabilities, they have brought a new understanding of their daily lives to me. Because of this, I am started an art and decoration business that will have items that people who have visual and physical challenges can enjoy along with people who are able bodied. I thank them all for their truth in how they live each day. I also really think they are three great men. I wish I knew them so I could tell them how much I appreciate them.

How come govt doesn't help former soldier It's such a shameful thing in south korea about govt policies for not helping it's former employees in need .
As I age older and older... I can testify that I have never met a person that have not felt they wanted to end their life on their own accord at one point or another. But younger we are, dumber we are and we want to end it all because of smallest of things. Learn to endure. Learn to love. Learn what makes you happy. Learn to be patient. People say YOLO like life isn't that important at time, but truth is you live everyday; you just die once. Whatever hardship you may have faced, it is your choice to live on and be happy. We are all worth it. My close friend ended his own life and I also wanted to follow that path at one point. I am glad I chose to live.
If I can go back to Korea, I would like to volunteer free time to help people like them. If they need a temporary care-giver while the mom gets surgery for another reason. They deserve help and it doesn't have to be government help.
I hope their is a foundation for them to recieve money so they may have some help a couple days a week. The relationship that he has with his mother touches your heart

From my short time in Korea plus all of my own personal digging into this subject, Korea has a very strong distaste for "The Other". Socially, they're still very behind but I still see possibilities for good and caring nature amongst them. Here's to a better future ❤️

@@allenk6373 The thing is, disabled people don't only want / need a support system (as in, a health and social care system). There is also a need for inclusion in the workplace, business support, marriage equality, to be taken seriously as parents, a need for friendship and taking part in sports or hobbies (sometimes that can just be that bars are not accessible). There's a need for people to talk to you like you're a sentient adult. A need to have opportunities in all areas. Support and healthcare is good but if people don't want to hang out with you, marry you, have kids with you, or employ you... it's not fun.
Of course, because most are shallow only emphasizing what is beautiful and perfect and anything that will not be within that norms are considered unacceptable and should be annihilated

I really want to thank Asian Boss for sharing this. When we think of Korea, we think of K-Pop & K-Drama and sometimes we tend to forget about these types of things. This was an eye opener. I also want to thank his mom for helping him - despite her health problems, she'll be blessed for that!

I'm glad he has a supportive family though. I think at the very least his family are a lot closer than a lot of us.
I watched a video couple weeks ago about some clinical research into treating damaged nerves. Hopefully with the advancement of AI these scientific researches will progress quicker and people will get their individual freedom back from diseases or accidents.

From a different perspective, this is a really though challenge in life, not only in terms of physical activity but mind one. The challenge of receiving help and support from the ones around the person, and the challenge to keep yourself every single day moving on and keep on trying.
We take everything for granted, health, our relatives, peace or even a roof...

Thank you so much for covering such an important topic that is very rarely discussed. Even in the states, many people fail to realize that persons with disabilities are people with jobs, families, and hobbies. Hearing him talk about the old man who brushed him off left a pit in my stomach. I'm currently a graduate student studying prosthetics and orthotics and have a very strong interest in learning more about disability rights, especially in South Korea. I've already watched several videos featuring Won-Jun Lee. Limitations are not easy, but it is very important and interesting to see how people deal with these limitations. I admire the way he can express himself so well and even inspire others.
The limitations are built in society though. The point of the video is to show how inaccessible the world is to people like him who have sever disabilities.

I work in the disability sector& in AUS we are fortunate to have a govt funding body allocated to assist people with disability and even supported accommodation. This is just really sad to hear. I am so privileged to live in the UK. I have Universal Healthcare from the cradle to the grave. If he were in the UK he would be in his own home, wet room and suitable for a Quadriplegic. Also he would have round the clock care. Donations from Armed Forces Charities. I am bemused that for the 10th richest Country in the world it treats it's most venerable with contempt. I am disabled myself I have two care visits a day. I have company and feel connected to the outside world not shut away like this gentleman is. Lee Wonjun your are an handsome man with an handsome family. In recent K-dramas and films I hear the word handicapped. That word has not been used in the UK for some sixty years. Physically Challenged. I would like people with physical challenges to watch the 2012 Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics. Physical challenges were embraced and gave inspiration for the effort and talent of the competitors.

Such a lovely man. He's lucky he's in South Korea and not China. I was thinking what he was saying about being on welfare and needing help. I'm sure when his mother passes away that either his daughter or wife of one of his sons will care for him. He seems to be loved by them.

Definitely strong person n father...willing to take care of his children despite his condition..he tought us life is race...fight it n continue moving forward n felt emotional when asked about mother that she will not be here forever n he gonna be lonely😊😊...hope his mother can soon get surgery n recover..she is angel😊😊😊❤

This reminds me of my lovely and sweet friend 옹주 in Seoul. I lost contact with her and I can't find her. She is quadriplegic (but she can use one of her arms). I hope I can find her again.

Thank you for sharing Won-jun Lee's story. He and Hansol from One Shot Hansol, and Weracle on You Tube actually changed my life. I have been watching them for several years, and even though I worked with senior citizens who had physical and mental disabilities, they have brought a new understanding of their daily lives to me. Because of this, I am started an art and decoration business that will have items that people who have visual and physical challenges can enjoy along with people who are able bodied. I thank them all for their truth in how they live each day. I also really think they are three great men. I wish I knew them so I could tell them how much I appreciate them.
I would like to offer my personal assistance to this guy and his mother by free as a care technician. The only issue it would be the language and the distance.

As I age older and older... I can testify that I have never met a person that have not felt they wanted to end their life on their own accord at one point or another.
But younger we are, dumber we are and we want to end it all because of smallest of things.
Learn to endure. Learn to love. Learn what makes you happy. Learn to be patient.
People say YOLO like life isn't that important at time, but truth is you live everyday; you just die once.
Whatever hardship you may have faced, it is your choice to live on and be happy. We are all worth it.
My close friend ended his own life and I also wanted to follow that path at one point. I am glad I chose to live.
