[HD 1080p] AV-8B HARRIER HOVERING - 50 YEARS OF HARRIER

Detail shots of the Boeing (Mcdonnell Douglas) AV-8B Harrier, which turns 50 this year. The first Sea Harrier flew in 1967, while the AV-8Bs, which are significantly redesigned, first flew in 1985.
Listen to the howl of the Rolls-Royce F402-RR-408A Pegasus engine as it spools up on startup, and the roar as the jet hovers in full power with water injection creating black smoke.
According to Wikipedia, the US Marine Corps plans to operate the Harrier until at least 2025; the F-35B model is slowly replacing it.

1977-81 I used to watch Harriers hovering at NAS North Island. Viewing them from Ballast Point on Point Loma in San Diego. Apparently that was at the time the Harrier’s depot

Yeah, I don't remember why the UK retired all thier Harriers. The UKs defense budget does not afford to keep harriers in overlap transition while acquiring F-35s, as our DoD with the USMarines.
