  • Magnificent Century: Kosem Episode 27 (English Subtitle)
They're kidnapping Kosem! Ahmed immediately suspects Safiye Sultan and expels her to the Maiden's Tower. Safiye Sultan is making such an offer that Sultan Ahmed is shocked! While Kosem is being held captive, she manages to reach very important information!
While Ahmed makes concessions to save Kosem, Kosem Sultan puts herself in great danger by trying to escape! As Halime Sultan learns that Mustafa is sick, she goes to him, ignoring all orders! Zülfikar and Hümasah continue to get closer to each other! Humaşah's husband, Hasan Pasha, comes to the palace. Hasan Pasha, who learns that Hümaşah Sultan wants to divorce him, goes crazy! He threatens Hümaşah so much that Hümaşah is cornered.
Kösem, on the other hand, thinks that it was Hümaşah Sultan who put her in this situation and takes action to learn her secret. While Kösem Sultan is taking firm steps towards power, Safiye Sultan is coming back to life with a miracle! As Kösem Sultan prepares to defeat Hümaşah, great changes begin to occur for everyone in the harem, especially the prince Mustafa.
Sultan Ahmed Khan's great love, the three sultans valides, the lover of the people of Istanbul, the most powerful Ottoman women ever; the enormous Kösem Sultan…
That name; cihan state will successfully rule the Ottoman Empire for forty years, will be the sole protector of the dynasty, will win the love of the masses, will be counted with power and grandeur ... Kösem Sultan, as the most powerful woman the East has seen, the dizzying power will take everything from one hand to the other. Adamı He will sacrifice the man he loves, his family, friends and sons… But first; innocence ...

I can't believe that at the beginning of the episode Osman was so kind, he was different, but as soon as he got on the throne, he changed in a bad one! So sad the part when Kosem said "I raised you, I took care of you" and Osman didn't even care ..I liked him at first but not now, and about Mehmet I didn't like him at all at first but now I've changed my mind.

Osman I am afraid is more interested in being the Sultan and doesn't care about anything else. You can tell he can be a very vicious man and he abused his power and lied to everyone in order to kill Mehmet. He's still alive thanks to Kosem Sultana, and yet he goes against her. Of course he was wrong for Kosem Sultana to forge an Imperial Edict. If she was someone else, she would have been immediately killed. Also Osman Reign ended from the moment he killed his brother Mehmet. The Ottoman Dynasty was one of the most, if not the most dysfunctional Dynasty that ever existed. Where is the logic in making so many children when they know they'll all be killed? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The problem back then was that this Sultan were put in charge of a Nation when they were still growing pubic hairs, and the power they had did go to their heads, and Osman is an example of it. That's was all Kosem fault.

Yes, but all of this happened BECAUSE of that wonderfully manipulative military corps founded by Murad II: it was the Janissaries who revolted first, and his mishandling of the situation made it worse. Of the 34 Osmanli sultans, at least ten were dethroned by rivals who had the janissaries behind them. Even Suleyman had to keep an eye out for them. They fired into the tent of Selim the Grim when he tried to consolidate his victory at Chaldiran. Look in the other series what happened when young, besotted Suleyman tried to spend an extended hunting stay at Edirne with his new favourite Hurrem, also when he had Mustafa executed: look at the precautions he took and how he had to sacrifice Rustem to their anger!

It certainly didn't seem like that, during Sultan Süleyman's reign (according to this series). It's my impression, that either the Sultan would make that decision by declaring an heir and/or killing off whomever he deemed unfit or the sons would just fight it out between themselves.
The eldest son might have had a particularly strong claim, being the oldest and most mature/experienced. But it wasn't like in the Europen monarchies, where he had an actual right on the throne.

Maybe there never was such an incompetent and useless ruler as Osman. According to history, he was very egocentrical, selfish, had anger issues and always blamed others for his failures. When he ascended the throne at age 13, he immediately began a war against Poland, that he lost miserably. He blamed it all on the janissaries, publicly called them cowards.
They already had hard feelings towards Osman, who believed the concept of janissaries became outdated. He then closed all their cafés (where they gathered, chatted in some coffee's company). After that, he began gathering troops AGAINST his own soldiers. Halime sultana was quick to take this opportunity, and ignited the rebellion against Osman. When he ordered Mehmet's death, he signed his own death decree.
In the end, janissaries captured him and strangled him. Rumour has it, he took after her mother, Mahfiruz Hatice sultana (Mahfiruze in the series), whom they portrayed quite well in the series. Stubborn, not good in politics and intrigues, only demanding power but never actually doing anything for it.
We'll never know what truly happened, but history definitely wasn't kind to this guy. If it's all true, he was very wrong to upset janissaries, who were loyal to Kösem.
