    BEST FREAKIN' MACHINE I HAVE EVER OWNED in over 30 years of riding and multiple indoor trainers and rollers..... Bounce is caused by a poor spin. A good spin equates to little to no bounce. Same as with rollers. If your spin is horrible, you surge up on the rollers causing a bouncing sensation. Great core work too!

    I like this machine, even more so if they fixed my worries. My solution in Part 2 seems to work. The amount of bounce can be reduced by tightening the 2 bolts, but I like it loose. Shawn Ransford's comment is partly correct, but it bounces even when you move your bum on the saddle.It's unavoidable, especially when out of the saddle. That's one of their selling points. I think my spin isn't bad and I have been riding rollers since 1962. Yes I would buy it again. Hope this helps.

    I have one , great feels much more natural, the bounce is adjustable and the creak is the rubbers..if you hit the brakes..the noise stops, its a non issue.
    I make orthotics for cyclists and use this machine over a fixed one to check clients issues .why? well its closer to natural for the riders and remember in real life the bike moves up and down and side to side. It is a good purchase ,i am very happy with it, if you ride a fixed trainer you end up absorbing the pounding,with the kurt no prob

    I am pretty sure that bounce is by design. not a problem nor does it indicate weakness. it is intended to make your ride more comfortable and less physically stressful

  • @charlesellis3313
    @charlesellis3313 Před 4 lety

    The fact that it rocks enables no detrimental force to transmitted through your frame. This is a great trainer to avoid bicycle damage. Noise comes from uneven pressure through pedals which causes tyre slip on the roller. Even force will prevent this. Can also get creaking noise from the rubber hinge moving against the steel or the trainer at the rear - put a bit of "Swimming pool lubricating silicone" on both sides of the rubber hinge, then tighten appropriately.

    @musoniify I like riding this trainer. It's very smooth. My tyre, a 25 year old tub, has lasted a long time and shows no wear. I like the movement in all directions but I still have reservations about the skewer bearings. See also Part 2 video. I am not sorry I bought it. It's expensive, but better than my old trainer which wore out tyres very quickly. Get it but keep an eye on the wear in the cone. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    Thank you for showing us the design flaw. Prevented me from getting it. Thanks again! :-) The newer models look like they have not rectified it to freely rotating cups either..

    @gbenduro I agree with you and I do ride it all the time. That still doesn't mean it's perfect. No doubt they can still improve the Rolls Royce. My findings are still valid. Thanks for watching.

  • @ElectricityTaster
    @ElectricityTaster Před 11 lety +1

    Well, the product name describes it perfectly. Not only does it roll but it also rocks (aka front to back movement).

  • @barneysbarn45
    @barneysbarn45  Před 12 lety +1

    @jax1fdr Something negative happened the moment I sat on it. Machines don't usually creak like an old sailing ship unless there is something wrong with it. Any bounce with fixed mountings will cause stress somewhere and this will build up over time. (like bending a nail back and forth)

    I like your input about the rider. I have heard certain situations about carbon frames on any bike trainer being a slight to bad issue for hardware related to the bike.

    Just bought the R N' R, and can't see any problems with it so far, it's ridgit - meaning it's built l a russian tank, the squeeky sound I have on mine is from the rear wheel slipping a bit when thrashing the shit out of it. What concerns the bounce I haven't eksperienced any problems, but this might be because i am much lighter than the uploader (79 kg's) and also the pedaling-technique has inflence on bounce, round and even pedaling = less bounce. I wouldn't have any concerns buying it again.

    I am using wahoo kickr. For me the problem with these static trainers, is that they are "static". So I get chaff from high intervals, sustained high power sweetspot like 97% of FTP, or high cadence works.
    I wonder if this rock n roll design will prevent that... When I ride outdoor at FTP effort for an hour I have like no saddle sore, as the bike is not static. It rocks a bit under me and I have tires as suspension. Indoor one hour at FTP I get broken skin like everytime.

    Funny, I have this same trainer and it doesn't bounce at all like yours nor does it sway as easily. Did you make sure to tighten the base enough?

  • @barneysbarn45
    @barneysbarn45  Před 11 lety

    Oh Dear. I must have failed in my 2 videos. Your point is obvious. However, I showed, together with my comments, that I didn't want to stop this movement, but to show the stress still there in the fixings. Maybe you haven't watched Part 2.

  • @barneysbarn45

    @thejimbo1357Hi. I spoke to Erin Wagner from Kurt on 10th October, and was more or less told it was my imagination. I sent him a jpg of wear in the cup, See Part 2 of video, but have heard nothing since (as 6th Dec 2011). I'm not complaining about the "bounce", but the fact that there is no bearing to allow this movement. Until they upgrade the fixings, my Carbon stays off it. I do enjoy riding it, and with a nylon washer, it's a great machine.

  • @pbodymathis
    @pbodymathis Před 7 lety +1

    I really love this trainer but unfortunately, the support arms cracked and the bike bounced and touched the floor by the time I looked for the problem. KK sent me another upper support arms and it did the same thing. They told me I could not use it if the bike and rider exceeded 150 lbs. Well I was close to it weighing from 225-230 and my bike of 18lbs. So if you are 200 lbs or more, I would think twice before buying this one. Check with your bike shop as I think they seemed to have beefed up the frame.

    • @pbodymathis

      pbodymathis join the club! I am 200lbs and also broke 2 frames. As a replacement I asked for a Road Machine frame and it's been great. The resistance unit is bombproof.

      Hi Bruno. Thanks for your comments. I haven't seen the new model yet and can't tell from the pictures, so I can't comment. But if it was so perfect, why have they altered it? Cheers.

    I am not sure of the big deal of the bounce you mention. When you show the bounce in the video, you are applying pressure from a vector that will not really be experienced on the bike, therefore overemphasizing it. Watching you ride, there was much less of a bouncing motion. I do however realize that there is some bounce, but I thought that was part of the point of the trainer's desired ride characteristic. Seems like you may be making a bigger deal out of it before anything negative happens.

    thicker rubber spacing will add to the height maybe? yeah that tire is too close to the floor.

    @barneysbarn45 i dont care about my bike, its my back. i ride, my back is good. i train on the kenetic bike trainer and my lower back gets sore from that constant bouncing. i have found that a trainer should be for your legs, nothing else, forget trying to make it like the road, its not.

    The bouncing is the whole clue with this trainer. If your cycling is uneven, you bounce. Busted. Try to adjust your force on your cycle and you'll be fine. Not only that, you will be a bether cyclist.

    • @barneysbarn45
      @barneysbarn45  Před 10 lety +2

      Oh dear, oh dear. This trainer is designed and advertised for use out of the saddle. Even the pros can't be smooth with their peddling, so your argument doesn't hold water. Besides, the whole video is about mechanics, see Part 2.

    • @pbodymathis
      @pbodymathis Před 9 lety

      barneysbarn45 Explain BB45? I have broken two trainers as the cheap metal China uses does not handle the stress. I was about to their limit of 250 lbs including the bike. A great concept that I really love but being 220-230 lbs and my bike of 18 lbs, it will not hold up very long. I would not recommend this trainer for anyone over 190 lbs.
