  • Hello
    I made “Bench Grinder Tool Sharpening Jig”.
    This jig was made for the purpose of tailoring Japanese plane blades, but it can be used as a sharpening jig for various tools.
    Click here for this workbench and router sled plan

    Angle can be adjusted from 0 ° to 50 °.
    Can be used for cutting edges of 20 ° or less due to the round whetstone
    The jig can be easily attached and detached by embedding the aluminum frame into the grinder installation table.

    So much admiration and respect for all of your work, projects and editing, truly inspiring ! This could be adapted to sharpen chisels by simply shortening the "table" front to back a little to accommodate the handles. Perhaps also a sliding 90 degree square for accuracy and a top with less drag maybe ? Thank you for such wonderful regular content. Be well. Be safe. Regards from Austria = )

    Additionally, a track on the table would allow squaring accessories for accuracy. Also a zero clearance skin, maybe stainless steel for grinding smaller items.

    This is a good way to rough sharpen straight chisels and plane chisels, but honing the tips to mirror smooth cutting edges is a different matter. Can you show us how you get such super fine cutting edges on your tools? Also, sharpening lathe chisels has been especially difficult for me. Can this jig be adapted to sharpen the compound curves of gouges and other lathe tools?

    The machine sounds like it's slightly disbalanced. Either I'm wrong, or the discs are unevenly worked out, or fastening the nuts could help.

    It's a nice table and all but it really hasn't reached it's full potential. blondiehacks did one in metal that integrated a track perpendicular to the wheel to use with a miter gauge for grinding HSS tooling. Stumpy Nubs did one several years ago that is probably about as intricate as you can get. Thanks for sharing.

    This project is not complete. You need to put another sliding plate that allows you to move the sharpened part from left to right in precisely the same orientation. Simply holding it by hand is not going to give you perfectly straight edge on your blades.

    砥石の側面まで、板を覆ってしまうと危ないですよ。
    20年前、会社に同じような治具がありフラットバーを研削していたら側面に小指が入り、肉を取られました。

      @jisakukobo  Před 4 lety +1

      グラインダーって想像以上に危険な道具ですよね。
      おっしゃられるような事故は実際にあるものなんですね。
      実は、私もその点を想定していました。
      私の想定では、不用意なクリアランスが指が挟まる原因と想定し、必要以上にクリアランスが大きくならないように作っています。
      試すわけにもいきませんが、駆動中に指が隙間に挟まるほどではないと判断したのですが、実際に事故が起きた治具はどの程度隙間があったのか覚えていますでしょうか?

    • @century373
      @century373 Před 4 lety

      治具の隙間は数ミリしかなかったと思います。
      3相200Vの大きく高速回転するもので、フラットバーを右から左に研削した時に右手の小指が砥石の側面に当たりそのまま指をもっていかれました。1センチくらい隙間があればかすり傷だったかもしれません。

    • @jisakukobo
      @jisakukobo  Před 4 lety

      ありがとうございます。数ミリだったのですね。
      1センチ開いていれば、確かにかすり傷で済んだかもしれませんが、挟み込まれるような事例では指ごと無くす可能性もあるような・・・
      いずれにせよ、サイドは無いほうが安全という事ですね。
      少し治具を改良してみようと思いました。
      この度は貴重なご意見ありがとうございます。
