- In this episode, I talk with Auron MacIntyre, host of the Auron MacIntyre Show, about Conquest’s Laws. Robert Conquest was a British-American historian and poet known for his work on the Soviet Union. A long-time research fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, he developed two laws of politics (a third is considered John O’Sullivan’s first law, O’Sullivan being a British conservative political commentator and journalist):
1. Everyone is conservative about what he knows best.
2. Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.
3. The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.
Auron and I discuss why these laws matter in politics and how they prove true in a variety of ways. We also seek to understand how they work their way out in business and church. Auron and I discuss church and state and why churches should not declare themselves to be “right-wing” but instead simply be Christian.

Love me some Auron MacIntyre. Great conversation and especially appreciate it through the lens of Christianity.
Thanks!
Great guest, well done. O'Sullivan was almost all that National Review had going for it for a long time, and it's not conservative any more since he left in any American-specific, historically-informed way.

@@Caligula138 Or to pack it in. Let’s found a better, more hierarchical periodical.
@@ZephaniahLBeautifully said. Any contenders?
@@MeanBeanComedy Well you know how the Major Leagues and TV channels have diluted their talent pool by endless expansion? It would be promising if, say, Chronicles and First Things and American Greatness got rid of mediocrities such as Larry Elder and combined their talents in one weekly - bring in Christopher Caldwell too, from the Weekly Standard. Undertake consolidation rather than expansion. See to it that the editors go to lunch weekly to keep their eyes on the prize, but also to exchange ideas and to whittle away sloppy arguments. Let steel sharpen steel among the elite rightist minds.
Or if a rich billionaire à la the late Richard Mellon Scaife funds my editor salary, guaranteed, for three years, I think I could assemble a good group.
I think "leftism" is the best term for describing everything left of center because, as Charles Haywood is fond of saying, all of it is predicated on boundless liberation and forced egalitarianism. So on a long enough time horizon, there is never a bound to the leftward movement. There are different flavors of leftism, but eradicating all varieties necessities a catch-all term.
Agreed.
Good talk. Thanks for this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So good I saved it to my playlist to chew over some more! Thanks guys. 💕
Awesome! Thank you!
How does this channel only have 829 subs? That cant be right.
Great content, man! You’ve had a wide range of interesting guests on your channel! Keep it up!
Bureaucracy being like a cabal of the organisations enemies is why no one can decide what restaurant to go to.
Lefitsm *is* the Serpent in the Garden.
"You shall be as gods."
That's the entire point. There's nothing new under the sun.
Nice
18:30 I think about how atheists exist because these holy books weren't verified by archaeology. Therefore, anything they had in them was considered as valid as a Spider Man comic book.
Well, I think about how many happen because their parents order them to do all that God stuff without any useful reason for it.
22:20 I often mention the libertarian angle by mentioning the St Thomas Aquinas defense of legal sex work.
43:35 I think about how many bad decisions are all about making line go up.
45:55 I would love to see money changers receive some Christ like behavior.
47:18 Besides, it won't be enough to tolerate, eventually if you aren't treating the outgroup like a bunch of kings, you are automatically a grand wizard to the shitlibs. Do not go walking on eggshells to please the hardcore leftists.
Churches should not declare themselves to be right-wing but they most certainly should declare themselves to be theologically conservative because Jesus is theologically conservative! Don't downplay the magnitude of the damage that has been done by the decades-long effort to synthesize Christianity with progressivism.
leftism isnt entropy, its technology
it seems that way because leftism is in power, and power dictates the telos of technology
look at the age of monarchies, technology is building castles and cathedrals, not escaping from the real world
What a gay take
