Hello, Gent. Love your reactions and passion for music. I'm really enjoying your covers, also. I'm slowly but surely getting through them all. I promise. This was my first BAND-MAID song, but I saw an older version, which I think is even better than this one. Thanks for all you do, sir.
Thanks a lot for your continuous support, really makes my day! And maybe skip some of the very old covers 😂
Hey, i commented on his Green Day cover earlier. Small world :)
@@akaalexanderking Just watched Hands all over by Soundgarden and it's amazing. I see so much of the stuff I listened to it's crazy. Blues, rock and I see punk down there, too, that I haven't gotten to, yet. I'm gonna watch them all.
@@patron40silver Gosh i saw Soundgarden along with Faith No More support Guns N Roses at Wembley Stadium in 1992. Where did all the time go so soon?
Yep, there's quite a lot of punk in there 🤘🏻
Always nice to start your week out with some BAND-MAID, but then again any day is better with BAND-MAID.
Won't argue with that! 😁
Greatest.........song..........intro.........EVER!! Play really showcases a lot of the many elements that make BAND-MAID so special. 🤘🤩🤘
I've been a drummer for 50yrs then came Akane. My drums are for sale
Ahahaha never give that up Fred 🤘🏻
@@akaalexanderking can't do that ! Akane is a very big inspiration a very high level for anyone to reach for
Absolutely, it's great to have such high level inspirations :)
I've been listening for music for near on 50 years. My entire music collection is for sale. :)
😂
What's really nice about this song, is that Miku, the rhythm guitar/backup singer, is taking a more prominent role here. While the lead guitar (Kanami), bass (Misa) and drummer (Akane) are each world-class musicians, Miku, by contrast, couldn't really play the guitar yet when she founded the band. She's been learning to play more an more as the band has been growing, taught by Kanami (lead guitar and song writer). And in this video, she has become good and confident enough to do a rhythm guitar solo, which is extra awesome if you know this history.
It really is, so happy to see fellow guitarists perfecting their chops :)
Band-Maid gives us a variety of great music! They separate themselves from other rock bands and I love it!!
They really do, such an original approach to the genre!
Thanks Guitar Gent!
Thank you for watching!
You'll probably hear this from the other Maidiacs... play was written as Band-Maid's original instrumental opener, but Saiki liked the song so much she asked Miku to write lyrics for it. It's why the song is called play, as all the ladies are playing. The new instrumental is Onset
Onset is absolutely fantastic, one of my favourites so far. Actually, all of them are my favorites so far ahahaha
Seen "without holding back"?
It's Onset on rocket-fuel!
Sadly not released on album, but released on a BR to their limited discs.
Sadly since it's so good!
On the US leg of their World Domination Gekidou tour 2019 "Don't be Long" was the Instrumental
Sounds fantastic, noted it thanks!
With Band-Maid you get the bass in your face :-) as it shoud be with MISA on bass. I've played bass for 30+ yrs and used to have John Myung as my main inspiration, now my new inspiration comes from MISA. You can't hide away MISA in the mix, she is way to good to be hidden away, nor would she approve. Her solo parts are top level for sure and I'm very glad that Band-Maid have chosen to keep the bass straight up front and not hidden in the back :-)
MISA! MISA! MISA!
So many examples of why I consider these Ladies the BEST Rock'n'Roll Band in the World Today!
Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
Fantastic musicians 🤘🏻
The busiest of the band's members, Miku has been practicing her guitar hard in her limited time. Fans who knew her efforts and devotion were deeply moved by this video :)
Always great to see musicians getting better as time goes by!
We love #MaidMondays! Best way to start the week! 😄🤘
Right?? I'm really looking forward to Mondays now 😂
Nice to hear your views as a muso, I also play guitar, and your opinion on the structure of the song. Kanami is a great arranger and has a good ear for the technical side of things whilst keeping the humanity.. and a little fun. Keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot, always great to hear feedback from other guitarists!
Saiki is the control tower of Band-Maid, she have the crowd in her hand and they go with her, it's very nice to see. No cell phones allowed at conserts in Japan, prohibited by law.
Anyone that has a Maid day has my sub! Love you enthusiasm during your reactions. It's infectious!!! Keep up the great work!!
Thanks a lot for the support Martin!
My favorite Band maid song is always the one I am listening to at the moment. The last band that ALWAYS produced absolute gems every time like Band Maid was the Beatles
I'll have to throw in Social Distortion in that conversation, but that's just me 😁
Play is awesome. No wonder saiki wanted a part in the fun. 🙂🎀💙
Gorgeous song
Thanks for the honest reaction.
Always remember: Band-Maid doing Band-Maid-Things. ;-)
Band-Maid impresses me since 5 years every day.
Thank you for watching!
In Scarface, when Tony Montana said "Let me introduce you to my little friend", i wonder if Miku knew that after she met them Tony was going to shoot & blow them all up?
I was looking forward to your comment Gary 😂

My favorite Band-Maid song.....??? the one that I'm listening to at the moment :-)
After hearing this song a million times....you hear new things that you hadn't noticed before ....Miku;s rhythm guitar playing was really
well done.....Im not sure how long she had been playing at this time but it blew me away....it really added a lot to the song !!!!
If you go back and watch domination live and look at the start of that and look at the end of this you can see they played this right before domination. I would of been tired just watching this show. Would of been so much fun.
I hope they continue to grow so they can tour in more countries. Canada is good place for American bands to tour but we don't get a lot of Asian bands here. At least not on the eastern side of the country.
It's the same in Europe unfortunately. At least, not as headliners. Thankfully artists like Corey Taylor from Slipknot and Halestorm are spreading the love and trying to open doors for them
I hope they play Montreal one day 🤞
@@mechghost5742 for sure I'd make the trip from GTA to Montreal for band Maid!
@@deathsyth27 yeah, I’d make the trek to Toronto to see them too.

Ahahahah I'm loving the made/maid puns. Thanks! 😁
I absolutely love your Maid Mondays!
Thanks Juan, glad you're enjoying them!
This is one of my fav BM songs right along Real Existence.....the part of the song...right after Misa's and Miku's dual and the whole band kicks in with that totally funky bass line is unbelievable !!!!!!! They should have a whole song with that groove!!!!! LoL
I am in love musically. What a band!!! Every song has that wow factor. Loved your analysis of their music. Cheers.
They truly are fantastic, thanks Steve!
For the next Band - Maid song , anything you want there all great .
It really seems so ;)
MISA!!!! MISA!!!! MISA!!!! 🥃🥃🥃 this added into conversation between the Badass Bass Assassin MISA and Miku is just gold because many of us Madiacs remember when Miku as just the Kanami's apprentice. In this song our Pigeon 🐦 can now hold her own and keep up with MISA. My favorite Conversation is the Live version of Don't You Tell Me from 2018 between MISA and Kanami. There is another conversation between MISA and Kanami in the Live video Turn Me On. If you don't have those links yet I'm sure one of the Madiacs can send them to you upon request. I enjoy your reactions because of your enthusiasm and your breakdowns. Looking forward to your next reaction 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

B-M had a band meeting & decided out of all the songs they have, they'd do another awesome live intro to "Play". Just cos, you know, they're BAND-MAID & they can :D
@@GaryHolloway-810 Yeah, they have to show how Miku has improved as a guitarist. Now, she even has her own solo part with “Sayonakidori”.
It’s even harder to believe when you watch this pre BAND-MAID video of the little Mika Noguchi czcams.com/video/DJvgImuOq2w/video.html
One of the best intros! Band-Maid really knows how to start a song. Btw, I like any day that has to do with Band-Maid. "Maid" my day already and it just started 😁

Hey GG - listening to BAND-MAID is a long journey because they don't have any bad songs, and they have a lot. I really like your enthusiasm when you follow the dynamics and changes in the music. BAND-MAID lifts my spirits and in the time of Covid-19 they bring some light into my life and hopefully yours as well. 🤘🤘🤘
They absolutely do, thanks for your support!
"This was so... everything!". Had to laugh about that too. They can hit you full on sometimes, but so enjoyable while being technical and tight. Another good Monday.
I'll cheer to that my friend. Really looking forward to Mondays nowadays ahahah
I love this song. It's so much fun. My favorite part is when Saiki is singing in front of Akane and Akane is doing those rim shots, Akane makes a face at Saiki and gets her to laugh. You can see it hear it in Saiki's vocals. I like that they're so comfortable with themselves and with each other that they mess around on stage. I've played with people who are so high strung that I'm afraid they'll explode if I look at them, and I've played with people who just want to withdraw into themselves and look down in their instrument the whole set. Neither type is fun for me or for the crowd, and none of the five ladies are those types. They're performers as well as musicians, and they're damn good at both.
As far as a recommendation goes, I'm going to recommend one from a live concert that I believe was from the same tour but from a year earlier, the song is called "Real Existence" and comes from a venue called Zepp Tokyo. My understanding is that Zepp is a division of Sony and has a few venues throughout Japan. This video comes from their Tokyo venue. Here's a link to the song; it's them at their hard rocking best.
czcams.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/video.html
Thanks a lot for the suggestion. Couldn't agree more, some people are amazing musicians but that doesn't mean they are great performers as well. Luckily these girls are both :)
priceless facial expression. hahah thank you for appreciating their music and their skills. this song was originally an instrumental material, but the ice queen digged it so much that she asked for lyrics be added to make it more complete. result: the one you just enjoyed. [edit: we]
Ahahahah my pleasure Craig, thank you for watching!
One thing I always love is no matter if it is Kanami or Misa leading the solo you can hear Akane supporting with the perfect drumming choice.
That's exactly my point, she always seem to know what to play and when. Fantastic drummer!
If they see you with a smartphone recording n Japan, your night is over.
I don't know if they do that to prevent fan footage, but I really like the idea
Great reaction....MIKU founder or the band...thank you MIKU fir your dream...your dream gave us BAND MAID...
Thanks :)
Those triplets on the kick during the breakdown are what really get me on this song, that and the bass/rhythm guitar duel at the beginning. Good to see Miku getting the spotlight and playing a rhythm solo. As a mostly rhythm player, I really enjoyed that.
Same, I'll always be a rhythmic guitar type of guy 😁
I think I am safe in saying that Misa is THE best female bass player in the world and I love Akane's drumming. The sounds she can get with such a small kit. Nice video reaction, cheers
Thanks, glad you enjoyed :)
Puzzle has 2 versions both live but one is an acoustic version with kanami playing and doing vocal.
Thanks for letting me know Frank :)
If you want some diversity, check out Daydreaming, Endless Story (both MVs), About us (live from their most recently online concert, just released), or Wonderland (live, from this same show)
Thanks for the suggestions :)
Saiki sings and plays the crowd like an instrument. Her command of the stage is fantastic. Of course the rest of the Maids are fantastic too!
Absolutely, she's a fantastic frontman. Or should I say frontwoman?
Every time I see this I wonder just what's going on at 3:04 when Kobato-san jerks her head to her left. It kind of seems like she's telling Misa, "Hey, Kanami's over here too, so you need to go over to the other side of the stage so the audience on that side has somebody in front of them." Which would be pretty brilliant attention to stagecraft in the middle of a song. Of course she might just be tossing away some hair that got in her face, but Misa does in fact move to stage left. I do think they plan and rehearse a lot of their stage movements, especially like gathering around the drum kit for hengao time, but they do a good job of making it feel spontaneous.
Absolutely Steve, a lot of rehearsing goes into live performance. But great bands are the ones that still make it flow naturally ;)
They have mic’s at every position so as the maids move around, Miku can do her backing vocals and harmonies.
@@ronaldbowers2240 Yeah, I wonder if it messes with the sound guys because as far as I can tell they're different mics: I think Misa's is an SM58, Miku inherited Saiki's old Sennheiser, and I think Kanami's is something else again.
I love where this conversation is heading towards, audiophile talks!
about the no phones in hands in the show.. that happens because it's forbidden in japan.. otherwise i think it wouldn't be too different from other shows

Guitar Gent: Please check out the Band-Maid Rinnie song. It's probably their heaviest and arguably their best song to date in my opinion. Components of the song kind of reminds me believe or not of Pantera.
Love Band Maid, love Kanami, such a great guitarist and composer. Band Maid and Nemophila are the bands I love from Japan. Love Kanami and Akane in BM, and love Saki, Tamu, and Hazuki in Nemophila. But yes, Play was originally an instrumental song, where Miku added lyrics later.
Adding Nemophilia to the list ;)
MIKU - Rhythm guitar, backing vocals, band founder
SAIKI - Lead Vocals
KANAMI - Lead Guitar and main songwriter
MISA - Bass
AKANE - Drums
This intro is not on the album, it was created specially for Live shows.
Puzzle is a great one to go next!
Stay safe.
Thanks Jorge, I'll work on my name memorization skills 😁
If you want to pick a B-M song that is in a more "pop punk" vein for a Monday listen, then "alone" is a top choice.
Thanks Thomas! I've always felt some MCR influences on the band, curious to see if they'll amplify in that song :)
@@akaalexanderking It also happens to be the 1st song they ever released that they wrote themselves.
Really? Even more interesting then
Btw, i want to share a little story. A lot of maidiac said that "thrill" / "real existance" / "alone" / "yolo" / "dice" was their first band-maid's song, but my first band-maid's song is "the dragon cries" that i saw from a youtube reaction video. Not from youtube algorithm for recommendation video, im just lucky that i found them 😂😂😂. Happy accident i guess 🤣🤣🤣

Next? Moratorium Live at Zepp Tokyo....but its no longer in CZcams...I can send the Video to u 🙊😉
Ahahahah feel free to, but for the reactions I think I'll stick to the original material. This way the band gets supported with royalties :)
@@akaalexanderking if i know the video they are talking about, it is an official video. But because it’s from a live concert during their time with another record label, a lot of the songs from that concert (2 actually) have been pulled from CZcams. Puzzle (normal and acoustic versions), Moratorium, Dont you Tell Me, Take Me Higher, Turn Me On, the version of Play with the better mixed guitar and MISA’s insane bass solo... so many great vids that are gone from CZcams
Wow, that's a real shame Erik. I'll need to find a workaround to that
@@akaalexanderking All these live performances belongs to the concerts of Shinkiba Studio Coast (2017) and Zepp Tokio (2018) and they aren´t in YT (except the songs Onset, Real Existence and Cross, in their official channel). Those two DVDs aren´t available (out of stock) and all the videos uploaded to YT were eradicated by the label early in 2020. Most of them exist in Bilibili, the Chinese YT. I don´t know if you can make a reaction video of that material. It´s a pity because both concerts are outstanding performances. Search in Bilibili "Band Maid Moratorium" and prepare to be amazed.
Such a shame. Thanks for the suggestion though ;)
The regular version is great, but the LIVE version has quite a bit added on to excite the crowd. It's something they're really good at doing.
That's something that great bands tend to do, they clearly fall into that category 🤘🏻
Miku's progress as a guitarist is also worth noting. It really shows in this song. Can we dare dream of a Miku solo one of these days? I feel it coming...
It really helps having another great guitar player in the band as a mentor under that point of view. Really hope for her to get to that level as well!
@@akaalexanderking yes, and Kanami is apparently a dedicated and demanding sensei!
Really tells a lot about the comradery in the band!

Puzzle live is a banger if you can find a video that won't get your video blocked.
Another good one, to see a different side of them is the just released about Us video from their online okyu-ji (what they call live shows) from 2 weeks ago. It is ballad. A love song written just for their canceled Budokan show (which the online show was a replacement for). This love song was written to the fans and is Covid inspired. Fair warning though, it is extremely emotional (at least for us long time fans) :)
Any song of them.:-)

The original version does not contain the intro you see here. This was added during their live shows. There are technically two other versions of the intro they've played during live performances. Previous versions had the bassist solo into the lead guitar solo. This one has bass vs rhythm.

@@akaalexanderking yes, it is,
So the intro here is not on the studio version. This is really one of the highlights of their live shows is that they throw these super awesome intros together for songs. Often times it is so that one of the ladies has a chance to switch instruments and/or grab a sip of water.
For what its worth this song is the first in a mini-set of 3 towards the end of their 2 hour show. Play, followed by Domination, then Freedom. To really get a sense for one of their shows play them back to back to back.
Thanks a lot for the info Brian, that's a killer way to close a set! Fantastic songs back to back
@@akaalexanderking When this MV hit CZcams it was kind of a big deal for fans because it was the first official video where Miku (who did not play guitar _at all_ when she founded the band) played some solo lead guitar licks.
Had no idea, she must have improved so quickly!
@@akaalexanderking Kanami, the lead guitarist, has been her sensei (teacher). Kanami is very demanding as well. :)
True story: When Miku went to pick out a first guitar she settled on a Rickenbacker, not knowing ANYTHING about guitars at the time. She bought it because "it looked cool". When she showed it to the rest of the band they were all shocked that she choose that kind of guitar as a first guitar. In true Miku fashion she just dove in head first and now has progressed to being a legit rhythm guitarist.

If you want bass the BM is band for you. Kanami...the lead guitarist...writes the songs but structures it in a way to give everyone a chance to shine. She doesn't make it about her. I love the interplay among the instruments throughout the song. BM pays such attention to the small details with their bass lines, drum fills and transition riffs. They are very talented but the those details make the sum greater than the parts IMO.
Puzzle will give you more lead guitar action. Daydreaming is a great power rock ballad is a very powerful solo.

To me the blues is really about feeling what you're playing, no wonder she's brilliant at it. What a great bunch of musicians
@@akaalexanderking Rick Beato has a video on what killed rock music (as a world wide phenomenon). He said rock bands (post Grunge) lost the blues and he gave several reasons. It is an interesting watch.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned it but Blooming is a song with a fantastic solo and longer than most. The whole song is fantastic. When they performed the song in their last online concert...Kanami had her eyes closed, during the solo, and was totally absorbed in it. She has a lot of feeling.
Rick Beato has hands down one of the best channels on this platform, he's great. And I'll have to agree with him on that one, people that really love music can sense if musicians just phone it in.

If Garfield heard this on a Monday, he wouldn't hate Mondays...
I think this song started as an instrumental, possibly between Misa, Akane and Kanami. Saiki liked the song so they quickly threw together a vocal part.

This is not a "brand new song."
Meant it in a "new song for me" kind of way ;)
This strikes me as odd.....most of the adulation for this band, these written comments, all read and sound very similar.
ALMOST as though they were written by the same person....and unusual grammatical errors by people with English-speaking-sounding names. Claims that can’t be taken seriously - LOTS OF THEM.
I looked up a name or two online, and can find no evidence that they actually exist. BeenVerified, Twitter, Facebook- that’s very strange.
Now who would do that ? The same puppet-masters pumping music into the speakers at live shows for these musicians to strum their guitars to ?
For money?
Gross. If true, GROSS.
The only thing they can’t manipulate? The music really isn’t very good.
You aren’t fooling anyone. Go make an honest living - you’ll feel better.
