There are rock bands who go their entire careers trying to write 1 killer song. Then they hear BAND-MAID & the tears start to flow :)
This one was truly fantastic!
They make my tears flow...and I don't even have a band!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘
@@sobabruddah7576 Haha. Oh yes, very nice :)
BAND-MAID following that Conan motto
@@sobabruddah7576 tears may flow but the rest of you is dancing, right?
The most complete band I've ever listened to for quite some time. They grabbed my heart last year this time and never let go.
And you're not alone from what I read in the comments Jim 👍🏻
Fun level: MAX! I think you are now ready for Onset Live.
Domination Live is coming tomorrow. Onset will be next I feel ;)
By far my favorite so far! Tune in tomorrow for my reaction to Domination ;)
I recommend you'll focus on the bass during the guitar solo. Most bassists could use what Misa does there as a solo and feel pretty good about it.
Yes, the bass is absolutely brilliant throughout the whole thing 🤘🏻
You need to do a live performance. Onset(instrumental), Play, Domination, Real Existence, Freedom, Wonderland, Choose Me. Super nice reaction!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘
Thanks! Domination Live is coming tomorrow ;)
@@akaalexanderking 👍👍🤘🤘🤘
🤘🏻
Nice reaction. Suggest you check out their live videos from their CZcams channel - Play, Domination, Real Existence, Onset (instrumental), Freedom, Wonderland etc etc etc and MV's - Day Dreaming, Blooming, Alone, Dragon Cries, Bubble etc etc etc
Thanks! Domination Live is coming tomorrow ;)
imo, unseen world is a showcase of their skills in the finest form. they're firing on all cylinders with their latest record -- instruments, vocals, lyrics and mixing-wise. even their most pop-leaning track ('sayonakidori') is not spared of their smarts and technicality with its shifting time signatures and a shakespeare quote. but heaping praise on it/them does not mean their previous albums are of a lesser quality. pick any suggestion from the other fans/commenters and i'm sure you'll be glad to follow their suggestions. if it were to come from me, i'd request all their tracks to be examined.
these ladies deserve more than the current level of recognition they're getting. they're making a beautiful dent in the history of rock.
Thanks for taking the time to write this, very insightful ;)
@@akaalexanderking no, thank you. for them to be noticed by musicians like you is like a validation of their ability.
Cheers Craig 🤘🏻
MANNERS..for me one the best song last 10 years
Fantastic song!
Great reaction. You covered all the bases in regards to the Band, their performance and the video. By the way - love the t-shirt. Thanks again.
Thanks Alan, glad you enjoyed!
I knew you would like that one. One of my favorites from the new album. Other BM songs with MVs in the same vein are Bubble and Dragon Cries. Many people complain about the compression in Dragon Cries but the song has a strong Hendrix feel in my opinion. I also think you would really like Dice. Not quite as bluesy as Manners but has a great classic driving hard rock riff throughout the song.
You have great insights!! Don't be afraid to pause in the video if you want to elaborate on something. We can watch the MV anytime.
Thanks, glad you find these insightful! I thought about stopping midway but it's just not the way I like to experience a song for the first time. But in the future I might go through all of it once and then go back to some parts that need more explaining ;)
I am one of those who complain about the compression in Dragon Cries. I think the main reason why I complain is becasue, underneath all the undifferentiated mess that was left by whoever edited it there is a *great* song. I'm really hoping for some remaster. And I totally agree on the Hendrix feel.
There has been a phase in music (especially metal music) where producers just started over compressing everything. Glad those days seem to be over
@@SocialNetwooky Fortunately the compression didn't totally ruin the song for me and the Hendrix style riffs still shined IMO but it was much better on the Shibuya DVD. Really wish they would release that live performance as an MV.
@@akaalexanderking I don't have a great ear for these things but many folks did complain about the compression on some songs on BM's 2019 Conqueror album (to me it largely sounded fine) but it seems to be generally agreed that Unseen World is mixed and produced much better
The chorus on this one is probably my favorite (so far). I love how they can do a more relaxed groove but still bring so much energy to it. The last chorus, after the guitar solo, is just a knock-out punch for me.
I've been playing guitar for a long time, but I don't know much about music theory. I'd be interested to hear you break down something like the mode changes in Kanami's solo in this song, or something similar.
Thanks for posting these, I'm really enjoying them!
Unfortunately I'm not big into music theory myself, really just thoughts myself the basics. When it comes to modes and scales, I can probably play them but I couldn't tell you which one is which 😅
@@akaalexanderking Hah, fair enough! Sounds like we're in the same boat, then. ;)
Have listened to Manners about 200 times already, and I'm still loving the hell out of it! Nice reaction, too. And who cares about whether it's a fill or a lick. I especially love Saiki's vocals after the solo. It goes from great guitar solo (much too short though), to that cool big note bend of MISA's, and then into that stripped down section where Saiki is just ROARING on lead vocals. God this song is good!
Absolutely, brilliant tune 🤘🏻
Study Japanese for 3 years like I did, and understand what she is singing. Trust me you won't be disappointed... Miku writes the lyrics, saiki consults, they're on the same page for the content of the song, more than one song brought me to tears.
Kanami is the musical inspiration, structures everything, and Misa and Akane as the rhythm section? It's just perfect.
@@timstocking8608 Just curious, do you live in Japan? I visited for the first time in 2019 and it was just a phenomenal experience.
@@Kevin6059 I've visited 4 times, a summer during college, a year with my ex's family to convince them I didn't steal their daughter (and worked In a semiconductor QC company), a summer during law school for an overseas study abroad program, and once for a winter break.
After my divorce I never went back. Maybe that's why listening to bandmaid makes me weep? I am a man of deep insight!
I have to say, I had listened to jRock back then and the musicianship then couldn't compare, it just couldn't compete with America. What a difference 25 years makes. Red Hot Chili Peppers singer said to play as fast as Babymetal "we would have to take all the crystal meth in Northern Ireland".
@@timstocking8608 LOL to stealing the daughter and taking all the crystal meth in Northern Ireland - my visit was strictly vacation. Started with a National Geographic tour group from which I learned a lot and then to Tokyo where I got to go to a Swallows baseball game (we could learn some things from those beer girls and rowdy fans) and then to visit some old college friends in Nikko. A trip of a lifetime. The people were very kind, cities very safe and clean and culture so different than ours that even little things were an adventure. Even found a great live jazz club in Hiroshima.
Like the unique, awesome outro, every Band-Maid song has a touch of class because the Maids have class. A remarkable band in so many aspects! "aw, aw, aw, aw, aw, aw, awesome!" Thanks, GuGe, (Gu-itar Ge-nt) for bringing Band-Maid to your viewers!
It's been an absolute pleasure so far Tom, thanks for the support 🙂
Puzzle, Wonderland, Puzzle acoustic :-)
Thanks for the suggestions!
Yeah, the Maidiacs are a good bunch
I really appreciate that you apply your knowledge in your reactions. You like it, or don't but you explain why. Thanks man. I love all the mastercraftsman (and women) doing reactions and have so many different reactions.
Thanks man! Happy to share my point of view as a musician :)
Appreciate yours and other musicians' reactions, especially if you could offer some insight into what they do - that is hard, that is uncommon, or even catchy. Their level of musicianship is undisputed, but I am interested in what you think makes them stand out. I look forward to your next reactions.
Thanks for making me notice this Paul, I see that I tend to talk about things as if I was talking to my bandmates. I'll definitely try to be a bit more clear and specific in the future!
@@akaalexanderking It wasn't a criticism - it comes as a request from my desire to hear what musicians can offer in a reaction. Cheers!
Absolutely, it wasn't taken as a critic. But it's a very important point that I'm glad you brought up! ;)
A rock and roll Anthem that wouldn't be at all out of place in a huge stadium. You mentioned this one is you favourite so far? That is going to change every time you hear a new one pretty much. The replay value of all of the songs though is outstanding. I never get tired of any of them myself.
Agreed, and that's because they are so well layered you keep in finding new elements to appreciate even after multiple listens!
@@akaalexanderking Onset was my first Band Maid song. I listened to it four times in a row because I heard / picked out something different each time.
That's a sign of a well written song :)
"Our rock never dies, ever. Forever!" - Nuff said...long live rock...long live Band-Maid! 🤘🤘🤘
Hell yeah my friend 🤘🏻
Breaking new gate, dude, breaking new gate. I love Miku's Engrish.
ya ya ya ya ya glad you liked it and them!!
Fantastic song 👍🏻
MISA MISA MISA!
I was waiting for this! 😂
their tastiest yet.
Agreed, at least among the ones I've listened so far. Fantastic
This is the first song off their new album that I love! Thanks for reacting to this video!
Thank you for watching Mark!
It seems like it took me less than a second to begin enjoying the Maid concept and beautiful dresses. I don't care that much about fashion but I am enchanted by Band-Maid's dresses. I dearly hope that they never drop this delightful idea of their concerts being a service to the fans. I have never before searched out so much off stage photos and interviews of a band. People keep mentioning about the cuteness of Maids. Their message is more than kawaii style to me; Maids are smart, tough, strong, diligent, focused, precise, humble and wise.
Beautiful insight, thanks for sharing! There's definitely much more beyond the cuteness with these girls
The costume design should evolve though, as the band and players mature.
the look is only to draw you into the band in the beginning, what keeps everyone coming is their skill and musicianship!
Exactly! Just like KISS and Alice Cooper in the 70s or Ghost nowadays
It's so funny on this song that most reviewers are not wild about this song.....and I have realized that unless you have a musical background
you can't appreciate this Bluesy groove on this song. And the chorus is classic amazing BM. But this song highlights Misa's bass playing/
You can see why this is her fav song.
Must be a hell of a lot of fun to play on bass!
If you like Bluesy/Hard-Rock style, you should check out BAND-MAID's song "flying high". There is no music video for this one but IMO, it's even better than "Manners"
the freaking dotted eighths.
Spot on about Flying High. Wish that song had a MV
Thanks for the recommendation, now I'm hyped for that one ahahah
Flying high is one of the best on Conquerer
2abug I was just listening to "Flying High" & copying the link for another reactor...Oops I've left it here as well :)
czcams.com/video/2knQXiGuPu0/video.html
For another track of theirs that might be up your alley if you prefer a more bluesy riff would be "Bubble" in my opinion. TY for the reaction.
Thank you for the suggestion and for watching!
Very nice and I think pretty accurate summary/review at the end of the video! And I have to agree on one point in particular. That Misa plays her own song for the most part, I noticed only on the second or third listen. At the first hearing, it was only small parts, which I have noticed. With Akane on drums and Misa on bass, you have perhaps the best active rhythm section out there. Not only because of their talent or creativity, which is both enormous, but also because they get the deserved attention and/or places to shine in the songwriting of Kanami (lead guitar) and in the final mix.
I'm already curious what your opinion will be on the live version of 'Domination'. :)
【 'Our rock never dies, ever. Forever!' - Band-Maid 】
Beautifully said, and it's always fantastic to see enough space being given to the drums and the bass in the songwriting 👍🏻
It's a bit of an older song (off of 2019's _Conqueror_ ), but check out The Dragon Cries. It's the one song they did with David Bowie's longtime producer, Tony Visconti. It may not be the best on the album imo (Blooming takes that for me), but oh boy is it bluesy.
I like the sound of that, added to the list ;)
A good musician can give you a good review.and
This is a good review by the way👍👍
Thanks man, appreciate it!
Really nice breakdown and points. :)
Thanks, glad you found that insightful :)
Dig deeper, we'll join the journey,
Another one coming today ;)
@@akaalexanderking sweet, anyway, if you plan to keep going, just choose any song from their channel, for solo stuff, their live show has some wild ones, Personally, I like Puzzle and Daydream, both had sweet solo, Dice was basically solo made into a song,
Sounds like something I'll enjoy ahahah, thanks for the suggestion
Your analysis is so good. As you said so many layers and different aspects. Miku really takes a different turn here. Sinister ha ha ha,sliding and even some lead notes that you mentioned. Plus the backing vocals that compliment SaIki so well. The difference really shines from the solo to the beautiful final vocals from Miku mainly. Kanami's ability to compose a well structured song. A lot of bands can play a basic rock song but Kanami knows how to interweave the different elements to make a song really 'work'.
Your comments are always brilliant Jim, hope to see many more in the future!
Lets not forget the writing! Kanami kills it.
You mean the songwriting or the lyrics?
@@akaalexanderking Kanami (guitarist) is the main crux of the song writing, though MISA (bass), and Akane (drums and defacto leader of the band) write parts as well, and send them to Kanami to put together with the rest of the song. Miku (rhythm guitartist, secondary vocalist, and creator of the band) writes most of their lyrics, and Saiki (main vocalist) will also take up writing duties for lyrics at times.
Thanks for the insight!
Great reaction....please react BAND MAID LIVE.......FREEDOM....DOMINATION.....PLAY...live 2020.....ONSET live 2018...best instrumental rock song all time
My reaction to Domination Live is coming out today man, stay tuned ;)
Listen to "Daydreaming" and "the non-fiction days"
Thanks for the recommendations Michael, Daydreaming seems to be a big request!
@@akaalexanderking and don't forget "rinne" and "real existence". "Band Maiko lips" is kind of a gag version of another of their songs. Still awesome.
mannersは大好きな曲だけど、このリアクションの表情見るともっと好きになるね。
Could I ask you for a translation? 😅
@@akaalexanderking Excuse me. I love this song. Watching your happy reaction made me even more like it.
Thank you so much! Appreciate it :)
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!!!" - Miku Kobato
Words to live by
Someone please help me!! At the very end of the outro it sounds like Miku says something, but even when wearing my good headphones I can't make it out & it's been driving me crazy all this time through dozens of listens & have never heard anyone else bring it up. Are my old ears just hearing things?
I'll go back to check that, let's see ;)
It sounds like part of the reverse masking sample, so if anyone is sending you a secret message its Kanami Sensei.
I get QotSA vibes on this track, Josh Homme would love this i think, I know I do.
Hell yeah, pretty sure he would!
I like when musicians like yourself have a "I can't believe what I'm seeing and hearing" look on their faces. Thank you for the reaction and spreading BAND-MAID love.
Thank you for the support :)
