Regarding the roof tiles for foot paths. Do you mean, broken tiles? If so, I think you'll find the Romans used to break old plant pots and roof tiles into smaller pieces, and put them into a old wine vat with a handle and turn it with stones in there to round off all the sharpe edges to make foot paths. Id imagine a cement mixer is as good. The Romans called it bink! 😊
interesting !!! Yes we could of used cement mixer to round them up but I didn't see the point of it ;) they are very fragile as they are so old !!!

hi guys,looking good,yes you do need to cover ibc tanks to stop the alge,make sure you put a filter in line so your drippers dont get blocked,dig the trenches as deep as posable,each year you will know what works,good luck and see you in next vid.

Hi! Lovely People. Florida, USA, here. All my life I have seen strawberries grown as follows: mounded hills are dug just like potatoes, then the mounded part is covered by black plastic and tucked under the edges, then holes are made to plant the strawberry plugs. This allows the plants to grow with very little weed infiltration. You can also do drip irrigation before you lay the black plastic. Other benefit is the fruit does not lay in the dirt! Another benefit is the fruit ripening quicker from the heat generated from the black plastic.
Hello !!! That black plastic which I used for path was bought for strawberries to use as you just mentioned .. but I just think this sun is so hot and it would do damage to the roots ... being to hot .. so I never used it

Great idea to reuse the horning from the caravan as extra protection on the ipc tanks. I agree the tarp won’t last the summer with the strength of the sun where you are. Hopefully the weather will start to settle and you will get a chance to dry the ground out before you put your tomato plants in to the ground. They really don’t like very wet ground. ❤

I was going to suggest raised beds to combat your water problem.
The tiles would be great...because there is so many I would suggest putting them vertically so to make use of there height
I think you could do all the garden beds with them

Ditch maintenance is so much fun. We do ours In New Mexico in February before wetting by burning the plant residues then dig to depth. There are some formulas for width and depth for area served and number of users. Your majordomo is the best source.

I suggest you have a pond dug with a spillover in place, which would give you all the water you need to irrigate during the dry periods, and be much better than those tanks by far. Other measures , other than a pond, are just and gimic that dont really solve the full issue.

Thanks for sharing another video. I think that due to the climate change and the type of land there (shallow with a subsoil of bedrock under the top soil) u will have two opposite problemss depending on the seasons; in the hot season u will have dry soil and scarcity of water and in the wet season u will have flooding and saturation of the top soil layer. I don't think it will improve with time. As i believe the dry season will become drier n the wet wetter with the passing of time. U guys need to talk to locals that have similar problem to urs and find out how they solve the issue . A. had a good idea to deepen the bed of the side canal to make the water flow faster and easier. Maybe u should consider to dig some strategically located swells leading excess water to the canal. U will have to use ur wits to observe the layout of the land to see what places work best for a swell so ur excess water flows away. As usual it was nice to watch both of u in ur work and to listen to u guys thinking out loud about the issues u find. Btw Guffy looks so happy roaming around ur land, so do ur kitties following u around.Sorry to hear about the phone accident. May i make a suggestion? Get a transparent plastic pocket to wear ur phone round the neck whilst doing outdoor work. It will protect it from dust and water n u will always know where it is .

I have a polly tunnel with irrigation system simply battery timer that you can adjust to drip feed plants I can video it and send to you if interested
Thank you !!! We got everything what we need for irrigation ... we won't have enough pressure to do proper irrigation .. the IBC tanks should of been placed higher .. we will have simple system for now

Should have used the black plastic to plant the strawberries in.Get some u.v.i. mulch plasti, lay it down fasten at both ends and occasjonally between down the sides, Cut holes in the plastic and plant your strawberries in the holes. this will reduce moiture loss, reduce weed growth and triple yoir yield and you should get 3 crops per year. I know as I did it for a profession
and they would not burned from sun? I was scared that the sun will damaged them ...
@@portugalitis Once the plants have grown then they cover the plastic, so no chance of burning. Many people here must do it as the plastic is readily available and even some with the holes already cut as I bought some a few weeks back, but I prefer to make my own holes.
Yes I will do that from now on .. I seen few gardeners doing it here as well I will plant onions and garlic like this in autumn will be my experiment ;)

Good work on the drainage ditches , unfortunately they will have to be cleared regularly, and down to that spring pond ,which will provide great water management opportunities, and maybe ducks or geese

On top the tanks before the plastic 1 would make a cover in wood because the SUN and the FROST will destroy then the Plastic.

we can take all of them if we want ... we are planning to use some of them when we will do raised beds for next spring in first terrasse
The tanks have enough height for irrigation and don't need to cover the tanks if used for irrigation purposes.

@@portugalitis Most people cover them to stop algae growth and you need to see the water level.
IBC containers in Europe must have plastic with UV protection and can last many years in direct sun exposure. Good luke.
:) our neighbour said when he got tanks 5 years ago he never covered and then recently they got damaged.. he said he wished he would of covered them ... so we done it ... but yes water line will be difficult to see ... guess we will have to top up after few days ... ;)
