- Professionals meet talent in this concert by WDR Music Education. The WDR Big Band is a band of superlatives and has fans all over the world. The famous Sant Andreu Jazz Youth Band from Barcelona is also infected by jazz fever - the young musicians love jazz and put on a brilliant program in their first joint concert with the WDR Big Band.
Recorded live in the Kölner Philharmonie on 19.05.2022 under the baton of Joan Chamorro.

Elsa Armengou has come a long way and spent a long time in the shadow of top line trumpeters but has earned her chance to perform with such a top band!
Elsa Armengou shines with her opening solo of What's New, Alba Esteban follows up with her mellow sound and Koldo Munné adds his magic to this joint WDR & Sant Andreu Jazz Band performance under the direction of Joan Chamorro. A real listening pleasure.

I just love Alba Estevan. She is such a phenomenal saxist. I think i'm gonna wanna learn to play the baritone sax. It has such a soothing sound that calms the mind. I've been listening to her 'Prelude to a Kiss' and 'Darn that Dream' and 'A Sleepin' Bee' over and over and over again. I can't stop.
Nobody in this world is conducting a big-band like Joan - I love to watch him and of course I love to hear him playing with all these fantastic young talents. I´m following him for years and have so much respect for his great work - Chapeau Joan Chamorro. I also celebrate this wonderful concert with one of the best Big Bands in the world - the WDR-Big Band - my favorite Big-Band !!!

Schon einige Jahre verfolge ich Joan Chamorro und seine jungen Talente, die er von Kindes Beinen anleitet, sie stärkt und sie fördert, bis die meisten von ihnen gestandene Musiker sind. Es muss da in Spanien einen Ort geben, an dem ein Zaubertrank zubereitet wird und diesen jungen Menschen die Kraft und das Talent gibt immer wieder diese Leistung und Musikalität zu entwickeln, wie man sie auch hier wieder erleben konnte. Nur heißt der dortige Druide nicht Miraculix, sondern Joan Chamorro. 😉
Bitte lieber Joan, gib doch unseren Musiklehrern und unseren Musikschülern etwas von dem Zaubertrank.
Es muss doch ein Erlebnis für jedes dieser Talente sein, mit so einer professionellen Big Band auf der Bühne zu stehen.
Leider kann man nicht schriftlich stehend applaudieren, darum nur tausendmal BRAVO!

Genau so ein Konzert habe ich gesucht und nach langem hin und her nun gefunden. Vielen Dank für diese tolle Darbietung. Solche aussergewöhnliche Musikereignisse sollte es mehr geben.

Immer wieder eine Freude die WDR Big Band zu sehen, vor allem unter der Leitung von Joan. Große Klasse! Auch die CFS Big Band wie auch andere Schul-Big Bands würden sehr gerne zusammen mit der WDR Big Band auf der Bühne stehen und zusammen musizieren. Es ist einfach unbeschreiblich, wie diese Band jeden Abend rockt. Incredible danke

@@WDRKlassik Grüße aus Aachen zurück, wir waren bereits zwei mal im WDR Funkhaus im Rahmen dieses Programms. Es war eine unbeschreiblich geile Erfahrung mit Ludwig Nuss und Johan Hörlen. Es wäre aber eine größere Freude mit den Musikern von der Big Band zusammen auf der Bühne einige Stücke zu spielen.

Chamorro und seine "Allstars" sind das beste, was dem Jazz passieren konnte. Unglaublich, wie er seine "Allstars" von Kindheit gefördert hat.
Wie ich höre hat auch Quincy Jones von ihm Notiz genommen. Und ich und die WDR-Big-Band dürfen dabei sein.
Andrea Mottis wurde im Alter von 17 Jahren von QJ entdeckt.
